"Look I'm calling it off. Alright? Peterkin said if I stay out of the marsh she'll help me with DCS." John B says calmly.

"And you believed her?" JJ says in a questioning tone. "Yes I believe her JJ." John B replies. "An actual cop John B. You believed a cop." JJ says angrily.

"Look all I gotta do is stay out of the marsh for a couple days, and she'll help me out. And it doesn't help that your ass was the one shooting a gun." John B replies.

"You know what I should have done man? I should've just let Topper drown your ass." JJ spat. "Yeah because Topper was gonna drown me?" John B asked.

"Sure looked like it. I mean have you looked in the mirror recently. They always win don't they, Kooks vs Pogues. They always win." JJ says angrily. "It's okay!" I say trying to calm JJ down.

"No it's not okay, it is not. If they don't want us to go down I to the Marsh that means there's something valuable down there. You know it, I know you do. JJ tells John B.

"And I understand why you don't wanna go, you're the golden boy you got way to much to risk." JJ says to pope.

"And you guys—you're already rich as fuck anyway. Why would you bother." JJ says to me and Kie.

"But you and me man, we got nothin' to lose! We really don't alright. And I know it didn't used to be that way for you." JJ speaks to John B.

"I don't wanna talk about this." John B says to JJ. "John B listen to me! I have a plan." JJ says while walking after John B.

Me Kie and Pope all take a quick look at each other.

"You got the key to Cameron's big boat right? There's scuba gear, we borrow that and then we go down to the wreck this afternoon and that is what's gonna save you man. You don't see rich kids going into foster care do you?" JJ tells John B.

Later

"This is empty." Kie says. "John B you took empty tanks?" I ask him. "Okay this one's a quarter full, it's enough for one of us." Kie says.

"Love it when a plan comes together." Pope says sarcastically. "Does anybody know how to dive? Anybody?" Kie asks. "That's kind of a kook sport." JJ replies. "I read about it." Pope says.

"Great Pope read about it so someone's gonna die." Kie says. "Look, you put the thing in your mouth and breathe. How hard could it be?" JJ asks.

"If you come up too fast, nitrogen gets into your blood, and you get the bends." Pope replies. "Bends like, bend over an-" JJ jokes before Pope cuts him off. "The bends kill you." Pope says seriously.

"I can dive." I say. "I'm not cool with that." JJ says. "Since when do you know how to dive?" Kie asks me. "I'll be fine." I say to stop them from worrying.

"No you won't be fine, I'll do it. It's fine." John B says to me. "Let's me do some calculations real quick." Pope says.

"That boat's about 30 feet down. So it'll take 25 minutes at that depth. Which means you need to make your safety stop at about ten feet. For two minutes." Pope says.

"Yeah, yeah. Ten feet, two minutes. Got it." John b says in response.

I take my shirt of revealing my blue bikini top and jump into the water.

"Hey! I tied my T-shirt to the anchor chain about ten feet down. It's where you need to do your safety stop." I say. "Cool, thanks." John B says to me.

"Hey if we got caught out here in the marsh we're basically screwed. So, better get a move on." I hear pope say to John B while JJ helps me get back into the boat.

Kie gives John B a kiss on the cheek "diver down?" John B asks. "Diver down." Kie responds.

Me pope and JJ give each other a look. "Diver down." John b says one more time before going into the water.

Me and Kie sit down right next to each other. "What was that all about?" I ask her. "What was what about?" Kie asks trying to act clueless.

"Come on Kie don't play dumb. I'm talking about you and John B." I say. "It's nothing. I was just making sure he was being careful." Kie responds.

"So...what's going on with you and JJ?" Kie asks me with a grin. "Nothing." I say in response.

"Oh please I saw him carrying you on his back the other day at the kegger." Kie tells me. "It's nothing." I tell Kie with a smile.

She turn to me and starts laughing. "Okay." She says. "Okay." I respond while laughing.

"Shit JJ!" Pope says in a worried tone. "Guys that's the police." JJ says to me and Kie.

"Oh you gotta be kidding me." I say. "Just act frickin' normal." Kie says trying to be calm.

"Evening officers." JJ says to the two deputy's approaching us. "Good evening. How you kids doing? You know the marsh is closed." One deputy responds.

"No." Pope says. "I didn't know that" JJ says. "Why's it closed?" I ask. "Well, we're conducting a search out here. Boat went down. You seen anything?" He responds. "No, no boats." JJ responds.

At this point we started getting worried about John B especially now that the police were here.

"Where's your friend you always hang with? He here?" The deputy asks. "He's working." I respond. The two deputy's look at us suspiciously.

"I'm gonna check your little boat out." One of the deputy's say hopping in our boat.

"You got another one of these?" The deputy asks while holding up a net. "Yeah, yeah of course. It's, uh... it's in the hold." JJ says.

"Show him." Kie says to JJ. JJ goes to show the deputy. "Here we go." JJ says while showing the deputy the net.

The deputy looks at me and I smile at him awkwardly. The deputy looks into the water like he's waiting for someone to pop out. Which we were but he didn't know that.

"Alright. It's a beautiful day isn't it." The deputy says getting ready to leave. "Yup." I say. "Sure is." JJ adds.

"You lets us know if you see anything on your way out." The deputy says. "Will do." Pope replies. "We'll be gone soon sir." JJ says. "Yes you will." The deputy responds and leaves.

We all run to the edge of the boat to see if John B popped up yet. "He's definitely out of air." Pope says. John B pops out of the water.

"There he is." JJ says in relief. "Oh Jesus Christ!" Pope says happily. "Don't scare us like that." I say to John B. "How'd it go down there? Did you find anything?" JJ asks John B.

"Did I find anything?" John B says while smiling. "Yeah, that's my boy!" JJ says happily. "You okay?" Kie asks John B. "Yeah I ran out of air." John B says. "You scared the shit out of us." Kie says to John B.

"Yeah the cops were up here but we uh took care of 'em." I say the John B. "My bad." John B says. "You're all good." Pope replies. "Yeah you kind of missed the show brother." JJ says while putting his arm around my shoulder.

"Hey, guys? Guys, bogey, two o'clock. What?" Kie says worriedly. "Do you recognize that boat?" Pope asks Kie. "I've never seen it." Kie responds to Pope. "What're they doing back here? The marsh is closed." I say. "I don't know but let's not stick around here and find out." JJ says ready to go.

"Did you get the bowline." John B says to JJ. "Yes." He replies. "Should we wait on 'em." Pope asks. "No we're not gonna wait on 'em." John B replies. "Go get the stern. Go!" John b says hurriedly. "JJ, hurry up." I say.

"Guys don't wait for me. Go." JJ says. "Let's go!" Kie says in a worried tone. "Pull the stern." I say. "I don't like this." John b says while looking at the boat coming near us.

"Go, go, go, go!" JJ says quickly. "Let's go!" Kie says hurriedly. "Hey, guys, they're following us." I say worriedly. "This can't be good." Pope says. "Dude you gotta go faster." JJ says to John B.

The guys on the other boat start speeding up and getting closer. Then a gun fired at us.

"HOLY SHIT GUYS!" Kie yells. "GET DOWN." John B yells. Another gun shot fires. "Oh my god we're gonna die!" Pope yelled. Another gun shot fires.

I went to grab an anchor so I could throw it in the water to slow them down "Kie! Help me out here." I says to kie. We grab it anchor and throw it in the water. The other boat hits it and slows down.

"Whoo!" Kie yells. "Pogue life man!" JJ yells excitedly. "That was insane." I said and started laughing.

We get off the boat and go to the docks. "What do you guys think it is?" Kie asks. "It's gotta be money or something right?" John B says while opening the bag.

"That or a couple of keys with street value to the low- to mid-mils!" JJ says excitedly. "Can we please just open the bag!" Pope says with anticipation. "Wow pope getting straight to it I see." I say while laughing. "That was a rare outburst of emotion." John B says to pope.

"Okay you guys are literally killing me with anticipation so open the bag! We almost died over this." Pope says.

John B pulls out a silver metallic canister and starts opening it. He pulls out a compass.

"A compass?" I say with a questioning tone. "Oh wow! Good job everybody we found a compass." Pope says disappointingly. "Dude what, it's not worth anything." JJ says to John B who is looking at the compass.

"This was my father's." John b says softly.

I hope you guys liked this chapter even though it was kind of boring...
