Jacaerys and Elaena walked into the room, staring at their mother. A guard announced them to Rhaenyra, who was leaning onto a table, reading an old book.

"Prince Jacaerys, and princess Elaena your grace" the man said before leaving the room. It was awkward. They knew their mother was annoyed at them for leaving for the twins, without discussing it with her before.

Their mother looked up, seeing her two children at the other end of the room. She stared for a minute, before returning to look at her book instead. Elaena swallowed, not only was their mother already angry, but she was going to receive even more shocking news.

Jacaerys took his wife's hand, before they walked over to their mother. When they made it to the table, Rhaenyra simply gave them a disappointed look before staring at her book again.

Elaena looked at Jacaerys, who was too scared to say anything either. The atmosphere in the room had gotten even more tense, so Elaena stared at him, raising her eyebrows, as if to tell him to say something.

He cleared his throat, looking down at the book his mother was reading, and he noticed a well known Targaryen "Visenya" He said.

Their mother raised her eyebrows up and down quickly, before answering "Vhagars first rider, and the first wielded of Dark Sister" Rhaenyra said.

"I hope you do not mean to use her as an example" Jacaerys said looking around the room nervously.

"Why shouldn't I?" Rhaenyra shot back, now lifting her head to look at her son and daughter, annoyance written all over her face.

"W- mother he only means it was a long time ago" Elaena said nervously, trying not to upset her mother any further.

Jacaerys rolled his eyes at his mother, turning around angrily, waking a few steps away until she spoke again. "What is the mood at the twins? Did his lordship quibble?" Rhaenyra asked.

Elaena smiled at her mothers attempt to keep her son in the room, as he turned around to face her once more, walking back to Elaena as he spoke "He wishes for the Freys to be granted Harrenhal"

"At wars end, assuming" Elaena added, walking back a little to stand beside her husband, who placed a protective hand on her side.

Rhaenyra turned around, inhaling "I'm proud of you Jace, and you too Elaena. You two have down our cause a great service" She said turning back around to look at the book.

Elaena sighed, taking Jacaerys hand and walking over to their mother again, sensing she wasn't really happy "Then why do you look so angry?" Jacaerys asked.

Rhaenyra quickly shut her book angrily, moving to walk over to the left side of the room, the two Velaryon looking at her worriedly.

"You chafed at being prevented from action, imagined my lot. I'm a dragonrider as well, with a war being fought over my ascension. And yet..I must wait here. Always prudent, sending others to fight and be felled in my name. Even you have managed to do your part" She said walking away in a huff.

"You are the queen..the tie that binds us. No harm can come to you!" Jacaerys said walking closer to his mother.

"And you are my son, and I did not give you two leave to go" She said walking away again.

"You do not give me leave to do anything! But who else is there? Rhaenys is dead and Baela cannot near the burden alone!" He yelled making Elaena wince, this was not the mood she wanted her mother to be in when she told her that she was with child.

"And when Aemond comes hunting for you? Your dragon is young! Will you fly before vhagar as Luke did?" Their mother asked making them both swallow at the reminder of their late brother.

Rhaenyra sat at the opposite end of the table from where they were standing "Perhaps Daemon could-" Jacaerys started but was elbowed by his wife when she saw her mothers angry face.

"Daemon is not here. And aemond now rules kings landing" Their mother said making Elaenas eyes widen slightly.

"Is Aegon dead?" She asked with shock.

"Dead or alive, we have no answer for Vhagar" Rhaenyra said.

Elaena stopped to think of something she had tried not to think about lately "mother...pearl is the same size, Mayhaps when she's healed from laying I-" She began.

Jacaerys eyes widened "no!" He and their mother both said in unison, not wanting her to be out in danger.

"Aemond will not wait long to press his advantage and then what? I have done all I can from here, sent my messages, invoked my allegiances. But if all else fails, it is i who must fight. Vhagar is big, but Syrax is faster" Their mother said.

"So is pearl!" She yelled, but they both turned to her giving her a look as if to say "not a chance"

"I need dragons" she said looking down.

"Well, pearl layed three eggs" Elaena said making them nod.

"We have many untamed dragons, and two that fly beneath our feet!" Jacaerys said.

"What bout Rhaena? I believe she had it in her" Elaena said hopefully.

"She nearly died in her last attempt, i would not risk it again" Rhaenyra said with her hand on her head sighing.

Jacaerys brows furred, an idea popping up in his head "There are those in our line who never ruled. Those who married into other noble houses. Their children born with other names. A generation ago, or more. Their blood would be thin" Rhaenyra said.

"And yet" Jacaerys said giving his mother a look.

"A dragon will only except a dragonlord to ride it. Or so say the histories" Rhaenyra said.

Elaena chuckled "Valyrian histories, written to guild is in glory" Jacaerys said leaning his hand on his sword.

"Are you suggesting we put a Mallister on a dragon, a tarly?" Rhaenyra asked in disbelief.

"Mother it is better than death and defeat" Jacaerys said holding his hands up with a cheeky grin.

"There are records here, surely of our line. And of those who fell out of it" Rhaenyra said her eyes widening with realisation.

"There could be scores of them" Jacaerys nodded.

Rhaenyra sighed, looking into the distance "It is a mad thought"

Elaena chuckled "we right dragons mother, we are mad" she said laughing.

Her mother nodded with a smile "So we would have three untamed, two left without their riders..and pearl has three eggs, so three more riders" Rhaenyra said looking at the wall as she thought.

"Actually...one of Pearls eggs will need to be kept" Elaena said nervously.

Rhaenyra brows furred in confusion, now looking at her daughter "for what reason?" She asked looking at her.

Elaena swallowed, placing a hand on her stomach, as Jacaerys placed his arm around her waist "Mother" she whispered.

Rhaenyras eyes widened quickly, the shock of her daughters actions making her freeze for a minute "Y-Your with child?" She muttered her eyes still wide.

"Yes, I only found out earlier" she said walking closer to her mother, anxious to see her reaction.

Rhaenyra looked down, placing her hands in her lap, the realisation of her daughter's delicate state in such a mad time only hitting her.

As she continued to stare down, Elaena panicked "I'm sorry! We didn't mean for it to happen" she said standing beside her mother.

"Elaena, although this is a....bad time for your state, a new child coming into the world is never something you should I apologise for. I'm happy for you two" Their mother smiled.

Elaena and Jacaerys sighed in relief, expecting their mother to get extremely angry with them.

"Do they know how far along you are?" She questioned.

"They think just under three months" she smiled, looking down to where here hand rested on her stomach with a smile, as Jacaerys held her close again.

"My first grandchild" Rhaenyra smiled.

"Elaena, you are not to ride again, not until the babe is born, do you hear me?" Her mother said in a stern tone.

Elaena reluctantly nodded, knowing she'd miss her rides with pearl, but she knows she could still see her everyday.

Rhaenyra then stood, hugging both of her children tightly "Congratulations" she whispered, kissing their heads, making them smile.

And just for a moment, they had forgotten of the war, and all the loss they had suffered as of late.
