A Helping Hand

❝What can I say? I'm dramatic.❞

DAYS PASSED AFTER you met Wukong and fought with him. You actually didn't see him since that day, it was as if he was isolating himself from the entire world.

You also felt a bit bad for letting your feeling getting the best of you. You couldn't just help it and got upset for him being selfish and thinking about himself only. You knew he was worried about Mk, but you didn't want to get involved in something you had nothing to do with. The kid wasn't your student after all. Still, you knew that Wukong had probably sensed something unsettling, that's why he seeked your help to protect Mk if anything to happen to him.

So, here you are... at Flower Fruit Mountain to see and check on Wukong even though it was evening. What made you actually come here was the fact that you saw a stupid golden wing bird you didn't want to see again, so you came to see Monkey King and ask him about what was going on. Why was that bastard back? When you reached Wukong's hut, you saw that it was quiet and that Wukong wasn't there because the lights were off. You raised an eyebrow in puzzlement, "Odd. Wukong would lazying around during this time." You thought while looking around the quiet place.

You decided to take a small stroll around the mountain to check if he was anywhere nearby. You walked for a good while until you reached a place you and Wukong used to hang out in. There, you actually saw Mk sitting with a little monkey and eating some bananas. You heard Mk let out a deep sigh, "Do you think Monkey King ever felt like this? Maybe that's why he stayed on this mountain, just having a good time with you guys. You know, 'cause... 'cause he knew he'd be out of the way where he couldn't hurt anyone he cared about." Mk spoke to the monkey and the little guy just grabbed the banana in his hand. You had never heard Mk sound like this before... so depressed and anxious, so you decided to make a bit of a mischievous entrance.

You covered the entire area with your shadows to be able to teleport quickly, "Or he was doing his usual Wukong thing and being a lazy, peach-eating idiot, ignoring all the world's problems." You said as you appeared right next to the boy. Mk flinched and moved away quickly, his form glitching to a monkey form, "Stop! If you're just here to mess with me, then..." As much as he was ready to fight you, Mk just gave up quickly and sat down, "Go for it, lady. I don't care anymore." He told you with a deep sigh after that which made you raise an eyebrow.

"You know, it's no fun when you say it out loud. Nice tail, by the way. That's new." You tried to cheer him up, crouching next to him. However, Mk just looked down miserably which made you let out a deep sigh, "Come on, Misery Kid. I got something to show you." You stated with a smirk and stood up, earing a stare of confusion from Mk.

Mk told you everything that happened to him and that Wukong was trapped inside the Scroll of Memory. It was a shock that your old friends were back and still wanted to take over the Celestial Realm.

You and Mk were at Wukong's house to give the boy a special training. You sat on the couch with the little monkey resting on your head. Mk was wearing the VR equipments Monkey King had to play your game.

"Uh, what am I looking at right now?" Mk asked with skepticism before his form glitched again.

"I know your latest discovery has thrown you for a loop. Between that and Azure and the Lady Bone Demon trying to get inside your head... You know what? Just play the game. That'll teach you everything you need to know, for once. Besides, I put a lot of work into this." You stated with pride of your work.

"Oh, yeah, no, I can definitely see that." Mk sarcastically replied, continuing to play the game.

For a few minutes, you watched Mk play and lose several times, mumbling angrily whenever he would make a choice or lose. It actually made you laugh every now and then because his frustration was so silly. Mk suddenly shouted and slammed the controller on the ground, "Ugh! Again?! Remind me how this "game" is supposed to convince me I'm not destined to turn into an evil demon monkey thing again? 'Cause every option I pick takes me to this same screen!" Mk complained while pointing at the TV screen that had an evil monkey picture grinning at him.

You stood up and put your arm around his shoulders, "Hey, you're finally getting it. No matter what option it's giving you, you're always gonna end up in the same spot."

"Ooh, thanks, Y/N. Congrats, you went to more effort than usual to make me feel like dirty dirt dirt. Good job, round of applause!"

Mk was very upset and left the house to sit outside. You rolled your eyes in annoyance, knowing that you had to comfort him. So you grabbed a banana and went outside to sit beside Mk, "Alright, Misery Kid. You were supposed to realize by now that the choices the game's giving you aren't the only choices you've got. Life isn't some pre-written thing like a video game where you have to do what the tutorial says." You explained to him what he was supposed to learn then took a bite from the fruits in your hands.

"Okay, well, kind of a weird convoluted way to make a point, don't you think?"

"Whatever. Point is, it's time to start making your own choices. Something I wish I'd learned a lot sooner than I did. You don't wanna fight Azure 'cause people might get hurt. You don't wanna not fight him 'cause people might get hurt. So do something else. Only you get to decide who you are, kiddo."

As you told him that, you two noticed the commotion in the Celestial Realm. Another sigh left your lips as you threw away the banana peel, "Look, don't let anyone control and mold you as they want. The hero never lets anyone do that him and you're a hero, kid." With that being said, you ruffled Mk's hair and stood up, walking inside.

You just hoped that Mk understood what you meant and make the right choice about what to do next. After all, you were certain that he knew what he was supposed to do because he was the hero if his own story.
