"Y/n, your friend is here!"

"I'll be down in a minute!" I shouted and zipped up my black backpack. I slung it over my shoulders and ran down the creaky stairs, grabbing a piece of toast off the table.

"Y/n, wait!" My mother ran after me, grabbing my shoulders just as I opened the door.

"Yeah? Whatever it is, make it quick so I don't keep Norman waiting." I chewed on the toast.

"Your cou-"

"Actually just tell me later, bye!" I wiped the crumbs off of my mouth with my gray sleeve and swallowed the rest of my toast.

"Oh, okay! Bye hun! Have a great day!" My mother smiled and waved nervously.

I waved back and entered the backseat of the car. "Sorry If I made you wait, mom was trying to ask me something, but I told her to just tell me later on."

"It's no problem, we didn't have to wait long." Norman smiled before turning to face the road again.

I smiled at Ray before looking around the car. "Hey, where's Emma?" I inquired.

"She lives closest to the school, so we'll get her last." Norman answered not taking his eyes off the faded black road.

I raised an eyebrow, "So why's Ray in the back with me and not the front with you?

Norman went silent, but when I looked in the mirror I could see the blush growing on his face.

"He wants that seat reserved for his crush," Ray chuckled then glared at Norman in the mirror. "Don't you, Norman?"

"Shut up." Norman groaned.

Ray and I laughed until we arrived at Emma's house. We watched as she happily skipped her way over to the vehicle, climbing in the front seat with a grin plastered on her pink lips. "Morning you guys!"

"Morning." We all replied.

"So, are you guys excited for the new school year or what?" She turned around in her seat to look at us and threw her hands in the air, cheering.

"Emma, seatbelt." Norman spoke.

Emma groaned before buckling up, then returned to face us.

"Yeah, only because I have you guys though." I said truthfully.

"Same here, It was boring with just me and Norman if I'm being honest."

"Boring, am I?" The albino asked jokingly.

"You know what I mean." Ray shook his head and smiled.

"Look at that, we're here." Said Norman.

"Woah, it's so much bigger than the times I've driven by!" Emma leaned on the window, her breath fogging up the glass.

"Huh, I guess it does." I tilted my head and stared at the grand school.

Ray leaned over the seats and pointed out my window. "See that window up there with the pink curtains?"

"Over there?" I pointed at the said window, my finger beside his.

He nodded. "That was Norman and I's homeroom last year, the teacher was really sweet. She was a bit crazy though, but in a good way."

I giggled and watched as the school grew closer and closer. But while I watched the school, Ray watched me. I wasn't sure why, but he wouldn't look away. He was snapped out of his trance when the car came to a halt.

"You ready?" Norman sighed and pulled the keys out of the vehicle, placing his hands on his lap. The 3 of us nodded in response, and we all hopped out. We walked in a group, Norman and Ray leading Emma and I. People whispered and stared at us, but I couldn't figure out why.

"Why are people staring at us?" I muttered, leaning forward towards Ray.

"Probably because all the girls are madly in love with Norman and me," Ray spoke.

"Well isn't your self-esteem awfully high?" I chuckled.

Ray smirked. "It's true though, they're jealous because two girls they've never seen before are walking with 2 of the most liked guys in Grace Field high."

"It can't be that big of a deal." I rolled my eyes.

"Seems that way, doesn't it?" Norman sighed.

"I think you two are just full of yourselves, you're not even attractive."

"Rude." Norman and Ray jokingly gasped.

Emma and I giggled as we entered the large building.

"Well... What's your homeroom number?" Norman asked us nervously.

"223." I swallowed a wad of spit, trying to lower my raising anxiety.

The other 3 sighed of relief and smiled with excitement.

"Me too," said Norman.

"Same here," Ray spoke.

"Me three!" Emma added.

"Well, that's a relief. Even if we don't have other classes together, we'll still have homeroom." Ray exclaimed.

We nodded in response.

"I'm too nervous to compare classes with the three of you, I'd rather just find out what classes we share through the day." I gulped once more.

"I agree, It'll be more of a surprise." Norman nodded.

The bell then rang for homeroom, slightly startling the four of us. We walked together to our assigned class and sat down. I sat in the very back corner, Ray was beside me, Emma was in front of me, and Norman sat in front of Ray. We made small talk until the teacher stood up from her desk introducing herself.

"Hello, students! Welcome to senior year!" A short and plump woman smiled and clasped her hands together. She was definitely one of those nice teachers that everyone adored. Her light brown hair was neatly cut and curled to her shoulders, and her eyes were a dark brown, almost black. She had rosy cheeks and wore a pink blouse paired with a black skirt. "Now, my name is Mrs. Yamamoto." She wrote her name on the chalkboard behind her desk. "The seats you've already chosen this morning shall be your permanent seats throughout the year. However, if by any means I feel the need to make changes, I will. If you have a problem with where you sit come speak to me, and I'll try my best to move you where you feel most comfortable." She smiled once more, "also, I teach English and Maths. Everyone in this classroom has me for at least one of those subjects. Any questions?" She glanced around the room. "Good! Oh, I almost forgot! If you haven't noticed, two students from Lambda high have just transferred here. Please treat them with kindness!" She pointed towards Emma and I

Everyone turned and faced the two of us. Emma gave a light smile and waved, while I just stared at them blankly. Most girls death stared us as they envied how Norman and Ray practically worshipped the ground where we walked. Some girls, ( the good ones, ) smiled at us and waved. And just like that, homeroom had ended as we only stay there for 10 minutes in the morning.

Ray packed up his things and checked his schedule. "Math, great..." He mumbled, irritated,  and sat back down as Mrs. Yamamoto was the teacher. He watched Emma and Norman walk out but looked to his left at me, who stayed seated, staring out the window. "Do you have math first too?" He inquired. But I didn't respond, I was daydreaming. He sighed, leaned over, and tapped me lightly on the shoulder, startling me out of my trance. "Y/n?" He tilted his head.

"Yeah? Sorry, I zoned out." I gazed over at him and rested my chin on my hand.

"Do you have math first too?"

"Oh, yes, I do. I'm assuming you do as well?" He nodded, and I felt my lips curve into a smile.
"I've always struggled with math the most, so I'm glad I have you here to help me."

"Don't tell me I'm going to have to do your homework for you," He groaned jokingly.

"Oh, don't you worry. I may suck at it but I'm determined to do all my work myself." I crossed my arms proudly.

"Now that state of mind will get you somewhere in life." He pointed at me and smirked.

I found myself giggling for what felt like the umpteenth time.

- Second Period, 10 am

"Y/n, we have art together, awesome!" The ginger cheered with excitement as she watched me enter the art room.

"Sweet, this will be fun." I smiled at my bestfriend softly, "how was first period?" I sat beside her and stared.

"Good, I had History with Norman! You?"

"I had Math with Ray."

"Lucky us! I hope this continues for the rest of the classes."

"Hey, new girls." A tall boy with blonde hair approached the two of us.

Emma and I glanced at each other, confused. "Us?" We asked in sync.

"Yeah, of course. Who else?" He chuckled and leaned on our shared desk. "Anyways, since the first day of school's on a Friday, I've decided to throw a senior party, tonight. And you two lovely ladies, are invited." He winked, I cringed.

This guy is weird, he gives off fuckboy energy.

"Well, thanks. But we don't even know your name, and are Norman and Ray invited?" I asked with an annoyed tone.

"Y/n don't be such a bummer!" Emma frowned.

"Oh no that's cool ginger, my name's Hiroto. And by 'Norman and Ray,' do by any chance you mean the two popular guys? Well, I invited them but they rarely attend parties."

"We'll convince them, don't you worry, Hiroto." Emma giggled.

"Awesome!" He handed us a slip of paper with his address messily written on it. "Bring a friend if you want, my parents aren't home so it'll be fun. Come at 8 pm, by the way. You can leave whenever you feel like it, spend the night if you want."

"Thanks! We'll see you there." Emma smiled and waved as he walked off to join his friends.

"Emma, please tell me you aren't actually going..." I shut my eyes and shook my head with disappointment.

"What? Of course, WE are going! We'll tell Norman and Ray at lunch."

"Emma I hate parties, they're so boring, nobody talks to me."

"Hellooo, are you forgetting something? You have me, Norman, and Ray!"

I exhaled with a sigh, "fine. I'll go if Ray goes, there's no way you'll be able to convince him."

Emma smirked. "It's a challenge, then."

- Lunch, 12 pm

The next class I had was Tech. Unfortunately for me, none of my friends were in that class with me. Instead, the three all had English together. I was a bit jealous of how they all shared a class, but there was nothing I could do but hope that at least one of the next classes we'd all share it.

Now, my three friends and I sat on the steps of the school, eating our lunch.

Emma has just explained the plans for the evening to Norman and Ray. "So, you two in?" She inquired sitting on the school steps biting into her sandwich.

"Sure, if you're going." Norman nodded. We all stared at Ray, waiting patiently for an answer.

"I don't like parties, too many people not in their right state of mind, freaks me out. So, no." He spoke while sipping on a juice box.

Part of me wanted to raise my hands in the air and squeal with joy, thank you, Ray.

"Boo, you suck! Now Y/n isn't going cause she said she'd only go if you go!" Emma pouted and buried her face in her lap.

You shouldn't have said that, Emma.

"Nevermind, I'll go. Just to spite her." Ray looked at me with that stupid smug look on his face.

Boo, you whore.

"I hate you so much, I'm serious."  A groan escaped my lips as I flicked him on the forehead.

Ray rubbed his head where my finger had landed, attempting to soothe the slight pain. "Oh come on now, you know you love me." He leaned forward and smirked.

"I can debate on that," I replied and crossed my arms tightly over my chest.

"Oh, can you now?" He questioned.

"Yes, I can actually. I can't believe this. My own friends betraying me and forcing me to go to a party." I laid back on the steps and draped my hand over my forehead dramatically.

"Quit being so dramatic." Ray chuckled and continued on with his apple-flavored juice box.

Emma then gasped and grinned, "I just remembered! My parents said I could have you guys over for a sleepover tonight as long as we sleep in the basement and aren't loud!"

"That sounds like fun, I'll be allowed." Said the white-haired boy.

"Me too," The black-haired boy replied.

"I'll probably be allowed, I'll check with my mom when I get back from school." I sighed and began to stuff my things into my backpack which had neatly sat on my lap.

"Great, then it's settled. Party, then sleepover! This will be fun."

The rest of the day flew by. I found my classes boring per usual, just because this was a new school doesn't change the fact that school causes pure boredom. When the final bell rung I packed up my things quickly and waited outside the school entrance for Ray. I was no less than a little surprised when 3 girls followed after him, squealing and all giddy.
I rolled my eyes and muttered, "annoying." I hesitantly approached him, "hey."

"You waited for me? How thoughtful." He smirked, towering over me.

"You're babysitting Alex, remember?" I exhaled with a sigh and mouthed, "who are they?"

He shrugged his shoulders, "fangirls I'm assuming."

"Fangirls, huh?" I raised my eyebrows.

He rolled his eyes and mumbled, "they won't leave me alone."

"Rayyy, who's this?" The three girls crossed their arms.

"This is my friend, y/n. She's new."

"Oh? Is she a freshman or something?" One of the girls crept out from behind his back tapping her fingers un-patiently against her skinny arm.

"I'm a Senior too, I just transferred here from Lambda high."I chewed the inside of my cheek, it's a bad habit of mine.

"Why'd you transfer? Did you get kicked out or something?" Another girl spoke and giggled.

"No-" I tried to explain my reasoning, but I was cut off by another one of the girls, the only blonde within 2 brunettes.

"Were you getting bullied? I bet you were." The 3 began to corner me into a cherry blossom tree next to the school steps.

"I-"

"Did you have 0 friends?"

"Did your dad get fired?"

"I bet she did something really embarrassing and stupid so she-"

"Leave her alone." Ray pushed the three of them back and stood in front of me, in an attempt to what I believe to be as defending me.

"Sorry Ray! We're only just asking her simple questions, we want to get to know her so we can become friends!"

"Yeah, like I'd believe that." He rolled his eyes and grabbed my hand protectively. "Y/n and I will be going now." He began to walk off, pulling my dumbfound self along.

The girls all groaned and one of them had the courage to walk towards us and shout. "What, is she your girlfriend or something Ray?"

Ray stopped in his tracks. "Would it shut you up if I said she was?" He spoke without looking back at them.

"You're being such a dick right now! Why are you defending her? You never do that to anyone. You're too good for her!" She shouted angrily.

"No, she's too good for me. And I'll defend any of my friends if people are obviously upsetting them."
The girls just stood there, shocked.
"Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to my friend Y/n's house. And don't you dare follow." He sighed and continued to walk faster off of the school grounds, pulling me with him like a lost puppy.

I felt stupid, should I have said something? I don't want him to feel like he has to always defend and protect me. Frankly, I don't need protection. I had it all under control, I think.

It wasn't until we were just a street away from my house when I finally let go of his hand and caught up to him, speaking. "Why'd you do that? Everything was fine, I had it under control." I stared at him while walking by his side.

"No, you didn't. I basically just saved your ass." A scoff left his naturally pink lips.

"Saved my ass, huh?" I snorted in disbelief, "stop trying to be some kind of hero, I don't need any kind of saving."

"For once in your life, can you not be completely stubborn?" He exhaled with a sigh.

I rolled my eyes, "I am not stubborn."

"You are, it's painfully obnoxious."

I made a face at him and mumbled, "dick."

The ravenette ignored my remark and began to talk normally."I think you'll become popular, tons of boys were drooling over you today, I heard them talking." He nudged me. After those words, he appeared to be kind of pissed, like he was jealous or something.

I scoffed, "Sure, I bet that's true."

"It is, I almost punched them in the face by the way they spoke about you."

"Yeah, right." I groaned as we walked up the tiny concrete driveway. "Oh, I forgot. My mom was trying to tell me something this morning, but I told her to just tell me later."

"Maybe you're dying."

I nudged him with my elbow, "you aren't funny."

"No, I'm pretty hilarious actually." His lips curved into a smirk.

I walked inside and froze in my tracks once I had figured out what the surprise had been. Ray stood beside me, staring at what he assumed the surprise was.

"Surprise!" My mother raised her hands and cheered.

"Miss me, Y/n?"
Said my cousin, who I absolutely hated with my whole heart. My cousin, Leilani, tilted her head at me with an evil grin plastered on her perfectly shaped face.
"Oh? And who may this gentleman be?"
