"If forever does exist, please let it be you."

Today was sunny, a soft layer of dew covered the green grass as yesterday It had rained heavily. Today was also the day I was supposed to meet Emma's apparent 'best friends.'
I inhaled a deep breath before hesitantly knocking on the wooden door. A wave of relief came over me when a familiar ginger girl smiled and opened it.
"Y/n! You came!" She moved out of the way letting meinside.
"Of course I did, you really think I'd ditch you?" I laughed, trying to ease my nerves.
"No, of course not." She giggled softly. "Come on, we're all hanging out in my room."
"Norman, Ray, I'd like you to meet my friend, y/n." Emma spoke proudly showing me off.
I took in another deep breath and slowly walked into the room, heart practically pounding through my chest. "Hi," I waved slightly trying to hide my shaking fingers.
"Hi there! Emma has told us so much about you." A white-haired boy grinned.
'He sort of reminds me of Jack Frost.' I thought to myself, stifling back a laugh.
"Has she?" I chuckled nervously at the thought of Emma rambling on and on about me.
The boy nodded.
"Ray, stop being so quiet and say hi to her." The bright blue-eyed boy nudged another boy.
I glanced over at the black-haired boy sat in a beanbag in the corner of the room.
He rolled his eyes and sat up straight. "Hey." He mumbled and crossed his arms.
He seems like a bitch.
"Don't mind him, he's just being moody." Emma laughed, "He seems so gloomy, it's funny."
"He'll warm up to you, I promise." The white-haired boy- Norman, was it? -smiled brightly flashing his white teeth.
I nodded and peeked over at the quiet boy again. 'He's weird.'
"I must say, it was a shock when Emma told us you were coming, as she had mentioned it before that you didn't really like to socialize."
"Oh, well uh... If I'm being honest, I don't. It's not that I don't want to, though, It's just difficult." I replied swallowing my spit.
It was quiet for a moment, awkward.
I continued once I realized how that must've sounded. "Oh, but that doesn't mean I don't want to be here, you seem nice." Lie.
"Oh good, for a moment I thought you didn't like me." He laughed.
I smiled sweetly in response.
"So, Y/n. Why don't you have any friends other than Emma?" The dark-haired boy- Ray, asked and leaned forwards clasping his hands together, a smirk plastered on that smug face of his.
God, I want to punch him square in the nose.
"Ray," Norman said through his teeth.
"What? I'm not being rude, Emma said it to us and I couldn't help but be curious." The boy shrugged.
"True, I did say it... It's not a bad thing though!" She looked over at me with worry.
"I Didn't take it as a bad thing," I said while keeping my eyes locked on Ray, it seemed like we were having a staring contest. "I just don't like to socialize, that's all. I don't see a reason to make friends, Emma just happened to talk to me one day and I just happened to like her." I smiled slightly and tilted my head, not breaking eye contact.
"That's weird if you ask me. Are you implying that once you finish high school you're going to cut ties with Emma and never speak to her again? Cause if you are, you might as well do it now before she gets hurt."
"What? No! I'd never do that, I actually enjoy being friends with Emma, she's a kind and funny person. We get along."
"You two are too opposite if you ask me. She's so bubbly and happy, and I can already tell your personality is gloomy and rude."
"Excuse me? I thought opposites attract though?"
"Opposites may attract, but that doesn't mean they're a good match."
"Wow, and here I thought you were just shy, but no. You're jealous because Emma has been spending time with me. You don't see Norman getting angry, do you? Honestly, grow up." I scoffed and shook my head.
Emma and Norman just watched as all hell broke loose.
He raised his voice, angry, and stood up. "Who said I was jealous of you? Please, I'm anything BUT jealous of you. I have Norman and Emma. The three of us have been inseparable since we were practically in diapers. But you, you met Emma... what? Three years ago?" He scoffed. "You won't even last a week of this school year. She'll be with us, not you. You were merely just someone she could talk to at school so she wouldn't be lonely."
"Ray stop it. You know that's not true-" Emma tried to speak, but I cut her off and stood up, facing Ray.
"Stop making up false accusations. Emma does like me, we're friends. Why can't you accept that she has other friends? Norman accepts it, you should be more like him. You're a piece of shit."
"Shut up you absolute bitch!"
"How am I a bitch? I'm merely defending myself against some emo with anger issues." I smirked.
"Fuck you. I can see why you have no friends."
"Says you. I can't wait until I get to Grace Field High now, it'll be fun to have these little arguments every day."
"Can't wait." Our faces have gotten so close, I could feel his breath on her cheeks.
"Awfully close aren't we? Shame you're a dickhead. Maybe I could've had a crush on you."
He instantly blushed and sat back on his chair.
"Y/n, I'm so sorry." Norman apologized with genuine worry.
"It's alright, Norman." I reassured him kindly.
"I understand if you want to leave, Y/n. I really do want you to stay though, but if you're uncomfortable..."
"No, I think I'll stay. This is going to be fun." I smiled.
Ray groaned. "Of course you are, just my luck." He mumbled and shook his head.
"You are lucky, aren't you? You get to spend the day with a beautiful girl, me."
"Please. You're the complete opposite of beautiful, you're looks are horrific."
"Horrifically beautiful?"
"That doesn't even make sense. Horrific means something terrible, ugly. So if you're saying you're "horrifically beautiful", you're saying you're beautiful in an ugly way."
"Thanks for the definition, Sherlock Holmes." I chuckled to myself and watched as Norman and Emma giggled.
Before Ray could say anything, the doorbell rang.
"That's the pizza! I'll be right back." Emma sprang to her feet and rushed to the door with a 20 dollar bill in her hand.
"I can tell you two are going to get along," Norman said smirking while looking back and forth at Ray and I.
We both slowly looked at him.
"Who knows, maybe the two of you will get married!" He closed his eyes and leaned back feeling accomplished.
"Over my dead body." Ray spat out.
"No, Norman's right. We'd make a cute couple, Ray."
"In what world? Do you think this is going to turn into one of those dumb mangas? No. I hate you. I'd never fall for someone like you."
"We'll see. You'll fall for me sooner or later. Surprisingly a lot of guys actually do like me."
Shockingly, that's true. I don't get what they see in me, it's not like I even speak to them anyways.
"That's a shocker. You seem pretty average to me."
"Hey, I'm thinking the same thing. They must have A quiet, smart girl fetish or something." I laughed at my own joke.
"I'm feeling like a major third-wheel here, lovebirds."
"How do you think I feel around you and Emma? It's so obvious that you like each other." The dark-haired boy smirked.
Norman blushed, "not true." He covered his red face.
"Why are you blushing Norman?" I leaned towards him and giggled.
"Yeah, you seem awfully red in the cheeks there," Ray added.
"I take it back. I'd prefer if you two don't become friends, that would be a terrible duo." Norman huffed and crossed his arms.
That made the two torturers laugh.
"I'm back! Sorry I took so long, I was looking for paper plates, but we have none. So, we'll just use our hands."
"Emma! Glad you're back." The albino smiled.
"You are glad, aren't you?" I spoke with an evil grin plastered on my face.
Norman made a face of annoyance, then grabbed a slice of pizza as Emma joined him, sitting beside him on her bed.
"Y/n you don't have to sit on the floor, there's space on my bed, you know," Emma said.
"I know, but the floor is comfortable, honestly." I said before taking a bite of the pep-and-cheese pizza slice.
"Weirdo," Ray mumbled.
"Emo." I replied swiftly. I could go on and on throwing insults at this piece of shit.
"Haha, real funny." He rolled his eyes.
"I know, I'm hilarious right?"
He sighed in response.
"So, are the two of you excited to come to Grace Field?" Norman asked.
"I am! It's going to be so much more fun with you and Ray with me and Y/n."
"I'm excited too actually, I wasn't expecting to get along with the two of you- Well, 1/2 is good enough for me." I chuckled. Norman and Emma laughed. Ray rolled his eyes being the drama queen as always.

"And then we looked behind us and saw him balling his eyes out!" Emma laughed as she finished her story.
I laughed along with her. "I remember that! That was funny, serves that dick right."
"Seems like the two of you had a lot of fun at Lamba high." Norman smiled.
Emma nodded. "It was really fun... And I expect Grace Field high to live up to the same expectations if not better!"
"It's already great, but you and Y/n will make it so much better!" The albino said.
"The only reason you find it great is because you're popular, the girls all adore you," Ray spoke with annoyance.
"They do?" Emma and Norman both said and tilted their heads with confusion.
"Yes, have you not noticed them squealing whenever you pass them? Or the chocolates they put in your locker?" He continued.
"No, not really... Honestly, I thought they were just giving me chocolates to be friendly. But hey, don't you get those too?"
"Well uhm, yeah, but not nearly as much as you. They're all in heart-shaped boxes, haven't you noticed?"
Norman shook his head.
"I swear, you can be so stupid sometimes." Ray sighed.
Emma and I giggled.
"Hey, does anyone know what time it is?"
Emma checked the digital alarm clock sitting on her nightstand. "7:30."
"Shit! I've gotta go help mom make dinner, thanks for having me, I had fun!" I sprang to her feet and hugged Norman and Emma.
"I've got to get going too." Ray sighed and stood up.
"You too? Aw... Well, looks like it's just me and you Norman!" Emma smiled.
Norman once pale cheeks turned into a red hue.
"Have fun you two," Ray smirked and pushed me out the door as he followed.
"Get your hands off me," I growled and shoved him.
"Calm down, you wouldn't have stopped talking if I hadn't pushed you out. Don't tease the lovebirds too much."
"You're so annoying."
"Sweet, I feel the same way about you." He rolled his eyes.
I scoffed and walked out the door with him following behind me.
"You didn't bring a coat?" He questioned.
"No, I forgot." I mumbled.
"And you're... walking?"
"Yeah, so? You are too."
"But I have a coat, and if you haven't noticed, it's night. It's cold at night."
"It's summer though,"
"The night is still cold."
"Whatever, stop being such a smartass." I groaned and kept walking.
"Take my coat, you'll freeze without it."
"I don't need your coat, you probably have diseases."
"I'm just trying to be nice."
"It's too late to be nice, are you forgetting our little argument?"
He sighed. "Yeah, yeah. Sorry I guess, I didn't like how Emma just brought someone over to hang out with us that we don't know."
"And you couldn't have just said that?"
"Just shut up, okay? I have trouble talking about how I feel, I was angry... Sorry." He spoke in an undertone.
I went silent for a moment and continued to walk beside him. "It's alright... I guess." We walked in silence for a few minutes.
"I hope you know I was only offering you my coat as my way to apologize. You can freeze for all I care."
I snorted, "I figured that was the case, jerk."
He stayed quiet before we went our opposite ways. "Bye, Y/n." He said with a tone of annoyance.
"Bye Ray." I mumbled and rolled my eyes. The rest of her walk home was peaceful, every now and then a car would pass by. The only light came from the gloomy streetlights and the dim car lights, but it wasn't scary. I found things like this peaceful. Things other people would find gloomy I would find as a source of happiness.
I arrived home safely and greeted my mother. "I'm back, sorry I was late." I didn't get a response as my mother was passed out on the couch, presumably of exhaustion, still in her work clothes. I sighed but then smiled warmly, grabbing the blanket that had been draped over the rocking chair and laid it out over my sleeping mother. I kissed her head, "sweet dreams, mom."
"Alexander? You home kid?" I whispered as I crept into my younger brother's room.
"Y/n you're back!" He grinned and hugged me tightly.
My brother, Alexander, was probably the sweetest kid I've ever met. Thankfully, he never met our excuse of a father. I don't want him to live a sad life, a life like mine. I want him to get into a good college when he's older, even if that means I won't.
I smiled and patted his head. "Sorry I'm late, I got caught up at Emma's."
"That's okay, mom fell asleep and I didn't want to wake her. Are you making supper?"
I nodded at the brunette 8-year-old.
"Great! I'm starving. Do you need help?"
"No, but thank you. We need groceries, so is it alright if we just have soup? There's a can of it premade in the pantry, I just need to cook it in a pot."
"That's fine with me!" He grinned.
"Perfect, I'll be sure to get groceries tomorrow." I left my brother's room and walked into the kitchen, pouring the large can of soup in a pot. I stirred it as the steam blew into my face. "Alexander, it's ready!" I called out, to which he came running into the cramped dining room.
"Smells great sis!" He smiled waiting patiently at the table. I smiled and placed a bowl of soup in front of him. I put two bowls into the fridge, one for myself, and one for my mom.
"I'm going to head to bed now, alright? If you need something just come get me or wake mom."
"You got it!" He responded.
I kissed the top of his head lovingly. "Sweetdreams kid." My brother smiled as he shoved the chicken noodle soup into his mouth. I snuck up the stairs and into my room, plopping down on my twin-sized bed.
This school year will be different, I can feel it. Everything is about to change, I know it will. Whether it'll change for better or for worse, something is going to happen.
