Poets.
Geniuses.
Revolutionaries.
Lemonade Mouth has been called all of these things.
But the real story, the story of how our band came to be, is a mystery to them all.
I wonder if they'd believe it if I told them it all started... right here.
"The rules in here are simple. No eating, no drinking, no sleeping, no talking, no tapping, no texting. You break a rule, I add another day of detention. Are we clear? Great." Miss Reznick announced to the group.
Stella Yamada, lead guitar.
Wen Gifford, keyboard.
Mo Banjaree, bass.
Charlie Delgado, drum god.
Madison Price, singer and guitar.
And me, Olivia White, future frontman for Lemonade Mouth.
It was this rag-tag group of six that started it all.
"All right. I have decided, rather than let you twiddle your little thumbs for the next hour, we are going to put those thumbs to use." the teacher said as she handed everyone a red small towel.
Madison furrowed her brows, looking down at it. She grabbed it and sighed. The girl was confused on what they were gonna do with it.
"We're gonna clean up around here. We're gonna unpack, and we're gonna turn this storage room into a music room." Miss Reznick explained while she walked around the room.
Let's just say, Madi was not in the mood for cleaning at all. But when was she? The room was so messy and she had better things to do than to clean a stupid music room probably no one's gonna use.
Miss Reznick walked over to the guitar case and opened it. "I mean, we might as well make the best of it, right? We've been banished to the basement."
The group of six exchanged looks of confusion. They were pretty much weirded out.
Miss Reznick was super energetic today. Hm, she must love making them clean.
The woman started strumming the guitar, which made Madison roll her eyes and continue writing in her journal.
Hey. Well I'm in detention and it's killing me. Miss Reznick is being hella weird and ughh. There's like five other kids here. They seem cool I guess? Jesus, I don't even kno-
The sound of a flushing toilet is what caught everyone's attention. Miss Reznick looked around. "Did you hear that?" asked the woman.
She turned around and looked up at the ceiling, where the sound came from. "You know what? If they spent a fraction of what the new gymnasium cost to keep this music program alive, I-"
She was cut off by the sound again.
Madison scrunched her nose up in disgust and shook her head. She just wanted all of this to be over. She just wanted to go home and sleep.
"That is it. That is it." Miss Reznick snapped. She was pretty angry at Brenigan.
But if I'm gonna tell you this right, I need to go back to the beginning. The morning it all began.
"Madison, get down here! We need to go!" yelled Madi's mom from downstairs. Madi let out a groan as she put her phone down and got up from her bed.
She didn't want to go to school. The girl had forgotten some homework and didn't want to deal with the teachers. They were exhausting.
Madi grabbed her black sweatshirt and her bag and ran downstairs to meet her mom. "Here." she muttered, walking out the front door. Her mother following after.
"Not even a good morning?" her mom asked as she started the car. "Mom, don't start this early. I'm not in the mood, seriously." sighed Madi.
"Well, then be nice."
Madison just wished that this car ride to school will be the fastest she has ever taken. She hated to be alone with her mom.
She just wanted things to go back to normal.
"We're here." her mom said, causing her to snap back into reality. The brown gathered her stuff and got out of the car without a goodbye.
She threw her bag over her shoulder and walked into school. Another day in hell, more torture yaaaay. Madison questioned the point of school all the time to be honest.
All the teachers did was torture them. They make students feel bad sometimes. The stress and stuff.
The girl was so busy thinking, she didn't even notice someone walking in front of her. That was until the two bumped into each other, almost sending Madi to the floor.
"Watch where you're going, jesus!" yelled the girl as she threw her hands up. Her face turned from anger to worry quickly when she realized who it was, she bumped into.
The principal.
He smiled at hee before he took out some paper and started writing on it. He ripped it off and handed it to Madi. "And that'd be detention for you." he smirked.
Madison just rolled her eyes and stormed off into class.

Everyone was in the new gym watching a TurboBlast commercial.
One word that describes this.
Boring.
"Welcome to our new first assembly in our new gym, generously funded by our school sponsor, TurboBlast. Drink of champions!" the principal announced to the school.
Some people started cheering and clapping. Madi really didn't want to, but she didn't want to come off as an annoyed, rude brat so she clapped along.
Very quietly.
After a while of the principal talking, he went on to talk about standing up for what we believe bla, bla, bla.
Madison couldn't care less. But what came next, the girl did care about it.
Out of nowhere, the new girl Stella stood up. She opened up her coat, revealing her red T-shirt. "My shirt, my decision. Okay?" yelled Stella. "Don't let your school take away your right. Okay?"
Now this, this was worth clapping for.
"Be heard. Use your voice.",
The crowd cheered loud for her. Including Madison. New girl has some confidence, damn.
"Come on! He can't tell you what to wear, who to be. You can wear what you want. We can wear whatever we want. Come on! I can wear my own T-shirt. Wear whatever kind of shirt you want. Today, tomorrow."

It was now after the assembly. Madison's mood gor kinda better, all thanks to Stella. She spilled facts and it made Madi feel... powerful?
That feeling went bye bye soon since it was time for detention now.
Madi walked to the elevator, pushing the button. She waited until the doors opened. Madi stepped in and waited for it to go down to the basement.
When the door opened to the very familiar basement, she smiled and started her way to music class aka detention.
"Home sweet home."
There is a moment where the stars align and fates collide, creating that perfect union.
As Madison was about to walk into class, a machine caught her eye. She turned around to fully face it. The excitement on her face was something else when she saw the Mel's lemonade machine.
The girl found herself searching for some money in her pockets so she could get some lemonade.
"Yes!" she exclaimed as she pulled out a coin from the back pocket of her jeans. The girl put the coin into the machine and let it do it's magic, that's what she calls it, before she grabbed the lemonade.
Madison leaned down and grabbed the drink, opening it immediately. She brought it up to her mouth and took a sip. This caused her to make a sour face.
The lemonade was great. Sweet but sour.
This was that moment.
"I am gonna give Brenigan a piece of my mind, and while I do, I want you guys to just start cleaning up or something around here." Miss Reznick frantically ran to the door, throwing her hands every direction possible.
When Miss Reznick walked out of the class and let the door shut behing her, Stella turned to the group. "She can't make us clean. It's cruel and unusual punishment." she protested.
"Welcome to High School." Charlie simply said.
"This school stinks." Stella said, disgust plastered all over her face. Mo let out a sigh as she started cleaning. "Can you guys just do what Miss Reznick asked and be quiet? Okay? I'm not getting another detention because of you people."
Everyone in the room listened to Mo and started cleaning the giant mess. The watee dripping is what kept Madison calm. It reminded her of rain and she was in love with the sound of rain hitting the windows.
A few minutes into cleaning, Charlie started drumming with his fingers on his desk to the water dripping. Then snapping. Wen started tossing his keys from one hand to the other, Mo sprayes with the spray bottle and Stella was clapping.
Charlie took out his drumsticks as he continued the beat. Olivia just looked at all of them like they were crazy people, while Madison continued cleaning to hide the smile that took over her lips.
Music.
No one knew about Madi and her music. She likes to keep it to herself. And it's not like she has anyone to tell.
They continued with the beat, Mo playing bass, Charlie walking over to the drums, Wen playing the xylophone and Stella grabbed a guitar.
Madison decided to stop hiding and do it. So, the girl threw the towel aside and stood up. She walked over to one of the guitars and grabbed it.
"Na, na, na, na, na.
Na, na." Olivia started singing.
Olivia
Take a look around
Who would've thought we'd all be here
So let's mess around
'Cause the future is unclear
We got nothing better to do
We're just trying to get through
Can you hear me?
Can you hear me?
Let the music groove you
Let the melody move you
Feel the beat and just let go
Get the rhythm into your soul
Let the music take you
Anywhere it wants to
When we're stuck and can't get free
No matter what we'll be still be singing
Come on, come on
Turn up the music
It's all we got, we're going to use it
Come on, come on
Turn up the music (yeah)
Madison
All we have is now
Madison and Mo
Let's make the most of this
Madison
Come on break it out
Madison and Stella
So everyone can hear it
Madison
They don't have to understand
But we'll make them if we can
Do you hear me?
Are you with me? Yeah
The girls
Let the music groove you
Let the melody move you
Feel the beat and just let go
Get the rhythm into your soul
Let the music take you
Anywhere it wants to
When we're stuck and can't get free
No matter what we'll be still be singing
Everyone
Come on, come on
Turn up the music
It's all we got, we're going to use it
Feel the beat and just let go
Get the rhythm into your soul
Let the music take you
Anywhere it wants to
Come on, come on
Turn up the music
Yeah
"That was so cool!"
"Oh, I'm really sorry. We just- I'm sorry." Mo said when she realized Miss Reznick was there. She ran over to her seat and sat down.
The group started stuttering, trying to make up an excuse.
"Shhh! Shh! Let me think. I need to think." Miss Reznick shushed Wen. She looked around the room and when her eyes landed on Olivia and Madison, it was like sparks appeared in her eyes.
"You two." she pointed at them. "Yeah, I'm just gonna sit down." Olivia quickly said, running to her seat. "Yup, same." Madi sat down.
Miss Reznick took a deep breath. "Olivia, Madison. You girls have beautiful voices! Ahh! Ha, ha!" she exclaimed. "Your band, it's a gift!"
"We're not a band."
"We don't even know each other."
Miss Reznick couldn't believe what they have just said. "You were meant to play together! It's- it's destiny!" she told them excitedly.
The kids shook their heads.
"Oh, come on!" she scoffed. "You don't have a moment like that and then just ignore it. People, they- they need to hear you! Shoot. That'll show Brenigan." she joked, making herself laugh.
Madison swore that Miss Reznick looked like the famous lightbulb you see in movies when someone gets an idea just showed above her head.
"That will show Brenigan. That's it."
"Rising Star." gasped Miss Reznick. Was she overreacting or really excited? "Rising what?" asked Stella. "Rising Star." Olivia repeated with a shaky voice.
A sigh escaped Madison's lips. "It's a stupid talent competition." she rolled her eyes, explaining. "Winner gets a record deal." Mo went on. "And some serious air time." Charlie hopped into the conversation
Making tomorrow's starts today
Making to-
Making to-
Wen and Charlie started singing. But Miss Reznick was quick to stop them. She continued to try and convince them to form a band.
"Just think, you guys. You can show everyone around here that sports isn't the only thing that matters. So. Hee hee. What do you think? You in?"
"Pass."
"What?"
"It's ridiculous." shrugged Stella. Miss Reznick then moved to Mo. "I really can't. Between my AP classes and violin lessons..." she shook her head
All the hope slowly drained from the teacher. "Yeah, I've got- I've got stuff."
"Stuff."
"Okay, what about you Madison?" Miss Reznick asked her. The girl quickly turned around to see everyone's eyes on her. Oh god.
"I'm sorry Miss Reznick, but I can't. Nobody even knows I make music. And my mom would kill me, seriously. I can't be in a band." Madison explained, sending the teacher a sorry face.
She let out a sigh, turning to Olivia. "Well, then what about you, Olivia?" Olivia looked up from her notebook. "I don't sing."
"Uhh, we just heard you sing."
Olivia sighed in defeat. "Well, yeah, but that wasn't real, like- like on a stage. I can't do that." "Oh, come on. Sure you can."
"No, no, trust me, it wouldn't be pretty. The last time I performed on stage was my first grade recital. Five minutes into Baa, Baa, Black Sheep I threw up on Mikey Nichols' back." the blonde refused.
Wen just started laughing in the back of the class as he recalled the memory. "Yeah, I remember that. That was hilarious."
"No, it was humiliating."
"I'm sorry, I can't." Olivia apologized softly, going back to her notebook. Madi understood. Performing in front of a lot of people, mainly strangers can be pretty hard.
Wen looked at the teacher before he spoke. "Well, I- I guess that counts me out, right? Can't really enter a competition with one man in a band. You know, unless you're thinking of a solo career. Which I'd be happy to consider."
"Guys, Mudslide Crush are entering. We wouldn't have a shot." Charlie reminded the rest. He was right. They were everyone's favorites. They didn't have a chance, solo or not solo.
Mo noddes at Charlie's statement. "He's right. They're amazing."
"They're not that amazing."
"Well, if we don't stand a chance against these Mudslide guys, then why bother, right?" Stella turned to the group. "Exactly." agreed Madi.
Miss Reznick looked at the kids with a smile. "Because, you said it yourself, you deserve to be heard."
The elevator doors opened.
Being in a band would be dope, but she wouldn't be able to do it.
Everyone stepped out of the elevator and exchanged looks before walking separate ways, pretending like nothing happened and they were strangers all over again.
