"so, what you're saying is that you 'love me so much,'" you put air quotes around the love part. "but won't leave the very organization that i've dedicated my life to stopping."
"that's exactly what i'm saying," gray said, his voice raised slightly from its normal volume. "but you don't seem to grasp that v.i.l.e is where i grew up, and where i'll stay."
you were offended.
"oh, yeah, just completely skip over the part where i lived there too."
"dammit, why can't you just let me do what i'm going to do?!" gray placed his hands on your shoulder and smiled desperately as if he was trying to convince himself that everything was ok. "we're in love, aren't we?!"
"god, i just need a break, gray." you removed him from your form and walked out of the door, picking up your purse and keys before leaving. as you started your car, you looked up your apartment's window and saw gray staring at you. his muscle-ridden figure was heavily backlit, making it hard to see his expression. watching you drive away to god knows where gray swallowed the lump in his throat and put on the t.v.

the small beach that you had driven to had hardly ever inhabited, so you could do as you pleased there. you sat down in the sand beneath a large rock arch and pulled out a single cigarette from the front pocket of your bag. it was only rarely, only at times like this, that you smoked. but, times like this seemed to be happening more and more. you lit the cancer stick, taking a long drag, before blowing it back out in a tuft of grey-white smoke. the cold wind rustling through your hair felt vaguely like gray's hands running through your hair. that was it. you shoved the cigarette into the sand beside you, putting out the ambers flickering at the end of it and cried. you cried and you cried until you were all out of the salt liquid and then some more.
you ran as fast as you could have up the sandy hill back to your car, starting the engine and driving back to yours and gray's apartment.

gray turned off the t.v as he heard you unlocking the door, turning tiredly in the direction of the door.
"do you wanna talk no-" he was cut off by your chapped lips pressed against his. your expert fingers laced themselves through his mousy brown hair just as they had so many times before. a small groan of approval escaped his lips as you tugged on his brown locks, but the small sound was lost in between your lips. the two of you pulled away, breathing heavily.
"up." that single word signaled you to jump slightly, letting gray catch you can pull you up to straddle his hips. you kicked off your heels, both of them landing in an unknown corner of your living room. as you kept your lips connected, gray stumbled into your shared room, your legs still wrapped tightly around his hips. he slammed the door shut and closed the blinds.

you woke up the next morning and could barely move you legs comfortably. just after you attempted to get up, you crumbled to the ground, letting out a breath of air in slight pain. gray must've heard you, because he was soon at the doorway of the room, a worried look plastered over his face.
"are you ok, babe?" he walked smoothly over and picked you up fluidly.
"mhm." you hummed contentedly, drumming your fingers across his back. as soon as your fingers had touched his back, you had realized that he didn't have a shirt on. you must've been in such a sleepy haze that you didn't realize that your boyfriend didn't have a shirt on.
"i'm sorry." you mumbled quietly into his shirtless.
"i forgive you." was his quiet response.
