"hey," You called to the strange girl standing by the train tracks on the way to the taj mahal. "the train'll come soon, if you wanna get on."

she looked over, showing off half-silver, half-black bangs, same as the rest of your head. The girl walked over, thick-soled shoes clopping against the ground. yhe girl examined you when she got to you, eyes dissecting you like a scalpel.

"you're odd," she added, blinking nonchalantly. "you helped a strange girl on the train tracks."

"yeah," you stated, holding out your hand for a handshake. "i'm (Y/N), by the way."

"i'm... star." She said, black-painted nails holding your skin as she shook your hand. paper star had decided to not use her alias. it just felt... unnecessary.

"nice you meet you," you smiled. "do you have a ticket?"

"no," paper star shrugged, her mildly creepy voice invading your senses.  "i wasn't going to the taj mahal. i... had work here but something happened with the hotel room i rented."

She lied so much, it was like second nature. But not now. It felt bad, like paper star was lying to an old friend.

"hmm." you tilted your head. "i can get you a room, if you're cool with that."

"thank you, miss." she smiled with a weird little smile. maybe you did think she was cute. and maybe you were doing this to impress her. but, what mattered was that she had a hotel room and wouldn't have to sleep somewhere random. so, both of you walked to a nearby hotel and you rented a room for her.

"thank you so much, y/n." star smiled, and gave you a tight, thankful hug. you faltered for a moment, before returning the kind gesture. you left and star was left to her own devices. the soft plush of her bed earned itself a body -sized dent as she laid down, and she took the hotel card and scrunched her eyebrows. there was a small scrap of paper was paper-clipped to the back.

"huh."

call me ;) xxx-xxx-xxxx

she giggled quietly and took out her phone, and texted you.

xxx-xxx-xxxx: hey, it's star.

me: oh yoooo

star โค: so

star โค: what's up

me: nothin much, hbu?

star โค: better now that i've met you

"it's so weird." star looked at you with a confused gaze.

"what is?" she asked you, placing her head in her hands.

"that we met while you were sitting by the train tracks and now we're dating." you smiled dreamily at her. the stars made her look so beautiful in that moment.  "after only 8 months, babe."

"and now we're traveling the world together." paper star began to lean in to kiss you, but received a call on her watch. from v.i.l.e. "i'm sorry, i have to take this."

she walked to the edge of the speedboat you were on, and began to speak. you  couldn't hear her over the roar of the engine, but her demeanor returned to the odd, eerily calm stance it had been when you met her.

"yes?" star asked through the phone, waiting for the response from countess cleo.

"star, we have your next mission." star nodded. "as you know, it's in france. you are to steal 'liberty leading the people' from the louvre. the accompanying agent has the replica. you know what to do next."

star nodded, before receiving another question.

"and you are sure that the-" cleo paused for a moment. "woman doesn't know?"

"yes, of course. you know how good i am at lying. but, she's starting to get suspicious." star turned around to notice your scrunched eyebrows and sour expression. "i have it under control, though."

"alright, i'm trusting you with this, paper star. there will be many consequences if she does... learn of our true intentions." countess cleo pursed her already thin lips into a straight line.

"understood. over and out." paper star nodded.

"don't disappoint me." cleo threatened, before the call cut out.

star turned around to return to her spot next to you, but found that you had disappeared.

"captain, where is she?" star asked worriedly.

"she went down to the cabin, paper star." her platform boots clomped against the wooden stairs, only to find you asleep in your shared room. a small smile crossed star's face as she changed into her nightclothes and laid down next to you. a small whine escaped your lips as she spooned you, making star giggle quietly. the peaceful look on your face crossed star's as she fell asleep. she would tell you eventually. but not then,  when things were so good for both of you.
