GLISTENING DIAMONDS.

067. โ› midnight knocks. โœ

LATER ON IN THE HOTEL ROOM, Peter and Diana both changed out of their clothes and put fresh ones on. Now, Peter sat on his bed with a clenched jaw whilst Diana paced in front of him, "What the hell were you thinking?!"

"What I was thinking?! How about you?! We agreed on leaving our suits behind!" Peter rose his voice slightly, clearly frustrated.

"You're always supposed to have your suit! So, I'm sorry, Peter, if I was thinking rationally, unlike you!"

Peter dragged his hands down his face, his chest rising and falling with the angrier he got. "You told me you weren't going to bring it! We could've finally had a break!"

Diana laughed in disbelief as she ran a distressed hand through her red hair, "A break?! A break?! What the fuck?! There are no 'breaks' in this line of work! You should know that! You more than anyone!"

Now Peter stood up, he scoffed. "I knew I shouldn't have trusted you to not bring it! You don't care about what I say! It seems like nowadays I can't trust you with shit!"

"Don't care about what you say?! You're funny, Peter. You always think you're better than everyone else! Going off and saving the day!" Diana stopped pacing now and got in his face. "And why is it so difficult to trust me? Is it because of what I've done? Is it because I've lost so much? Is it because I'm damaged now? Tell me, Peter! Do enlighten me because I'd love to know!"

Peter kissed his teeth before speaking, his jaw tensing, "I don't understand why you've been so different lately. I meanโ€” Diana, you know I love you, but everything's changed since I got back. It's like I don't know who you are and I try, so hard, so hard to make life better for you! I don't understand what changed!"

"What changed?! What changed! You weren't there when Thanos almost killed me! I was practically a corpse! You don't know what that's like! To go through thatโ€” then he sends me five fucking years to the future and I come to find out he's still not dead! Then I find out you're dead, then Mj, then everyone! And finally, when it seemed like I gained hope again to defeat Thanos, Nat dies and it all goes to shit! Every day it torments me! Whether it's on the news, on paper, in my nightmares, or some kids talk about it! I can't escape it!" She pressed her finger to his chest harshly. "And you torment me with questions, as if hearing about it wasn't enoughโ€” you want me to speak about it?"

"That was eight months ago! Move the fuck on!" Peter flailed his arms around, both of their voices rising.

Diana scoffed and her eyes sparkled with anger, "Move on?! What?! Like you have?!"

Peter now looked enraged, "Since when has this been about me?!"

Diana laughed maniacally, "Isn't everything?!"

Sucking in a deep breath and Diana took a step back, "You know what? I can't do this right now. Leave me alone. You can go enjoy your stupid vacation, but there's clearly something happening here. It's your decision if you want to ignore it. I don't care what you do, Peter, but I sure as hell want no part in it. Go cry about Tony's death to someone else, see if they'll tell you to move on just because it was eight months ago."

She turned around and made her way towards the door. Peter watched her quietly then moved to grab her wrist but she immediately yanked it out of his hold with a glare and slammed the door on her way out, it nearly fell off its hinges.

Just as she exited, a dart flew in her direction. Raising her left hand, she caught it right before it could touch her neck. Diana's eyes blew wide and she looked to her left, "What the hell?!"

"Trouble in paradise?" The man tilted his head to the side.

Diana's jaw clenched as she scanned the man, "Nick Fury, to what do I owe the displeasure? I'm busy if you can't tell, make it quick."

"You and your boyfriend are very difficult people to contact, Miss Black." Nick Fury spoke in an intimidating tone, a smirk drawing itself on his lips, "Where's Parker?"

"In that room," Diana motioned behind her as she threw the dart back to the man with one eye.

Fury stepped around the girl and went into the room with Diana hot on his heels. "What now, Diana?!" Peter stood up and turned around sharply. "Come to tell me aboutโ€”!"

The man, holding a gun close to him, raised his eyebrows at Peter who raised his voice a little too high and spoke a little too hostile. Peter's eyes went wide as he looked back and forth between the silent Diana and the intimidating man.

"You're Nick Fury." Peter realized.

"So good to finally meet you." Fury took a seat and crossed his legs. Diana remained in the corner, far, far, far away from Peter as she could possibly get.

"I saw you at the funeral, but I didn't think that was a good time to exchange numbers." Fury pursed his lips and leaned forward.

"No, that would have been really inappropriate." Peter nodded along anxiously.

"That's what I just said." Fury stated.

"Right," Peter muttered.

"The important thing is, you're here. I tried to bring you here, you avoided me, and now, you're here." Fury concluded. "What a coincidence."

"Wait, was this a coincidence?" Diana interjected, now thinking well through everything that's happened so far.

"I used to know everything. Then, I come back five years later, and now, I know nothing. No intel, no team, and two high school kids are dodging my calls." Fury continued furiously. "Here's what I do know." He placed down a device on the table in front of him, which created a hologram of the earth.

"A week ago, a village in Mexico was wiped out by a cyclone. Witnesses say that cyclone had a face." Fury began. "Three days later, a similar event in Morocco. A villageโ€”"

Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. Everyone turned to the side, and there stood Mr. Harrington with a smile. Fury pointed his gun in that direction in case he would need to tranquilize anyone.

"Just making the rounds, seeing if anyone needs any emotional counseling after today's traumatic events. I heard some shouting, so I wanted to make sure everything was fine." Mr. Harrington explained from the other end of the door.

"N-No we'll be okay. We're fine. Thank you." Peter stammered.

"Great. Cause I'm not qualified to actuallyโ€”" Mr. Harrington paused as he noticed Diana still there. "Ohโ€” Diana, you're still here. Hi." He greeted.

"Hey." She didn't even bother with a smile, still very much pissed about the argument she just had.

"I'm a... I'm a chill teacher, but you should probably go back to your room." Mr. Harrington said.

"I will, sir," Diana replied, turning back to look at Peter with distaste, "He's being irritating right now anyway."

"Great. Goodnight! Use protection!" Mr. Harrington shut the door after that.

"Where's Ned and Mj?" Diana questioned, avoiding having to address Mr. Harrington's last remark.

"Hey, Peterโ€”"

Diana's question was answered. Ned was on the floor, tranquilized by Fury's gun the minute he stepped into the room. Diana backed away from Ned who fell forward, accidentally bumping into Peter.

The two stared at each other, then awkwardly stepped in opposite directions. "You shot Ned." Peter looked to Fury. "He'll be fine." Assured the man.

"And, uh.. that was our teacher," Peter added, referring to Mr. Harrington. "Sorry... about that. You were saying?"

"A village was destroyed by what may well be another worldโ€”"

Another knock at the door, "Ned are you still awake?" Said Betty on the other side, "You're not answering any of my texts."

"Uhmโ€” he's asleep, Betty!" Peter called out.

"Oh, already?" She questioned

"Mhm! Yeah!"

"Okay." Betty left without another word.

Nick Fury continued, trying to wrap up his convo after noticing Diana losing interest already. "That's why it's imperativeโ€”"

Another knock.

Diana groaned and glanced at Peter for a moment. "Hey, D! When are you coming back?!" Asked Mj.

"Uh," Diana stuttered, "I'll be there later, M! I just really need to talk to Peter right now!"

"Oh okay."

"Another person touches that door, and we're going to attend another funeral," Fury threatened.

Diana pointed at the door where they could hear Mj's retreating footsteps, "Touch her, and I'll take out your other eye."

He nodded with his hands up, but not an ounce of intimidation was on his face, "Suit up." He threw Peter's suit in his direction as Diana tapped her chip. "I'm waiting right outside the door. No yelling this time and try not to kill each other, yeah?"

"Are you sure I can't kill him becauseโ€”"

"No."

"Got it."
