TW~Panic attack and mentions of bullying.
Y/N'S POV
In school, I'm known as the quiet girl. I don't talk to anyone, nor speak out in class, and I sadly don't have any friends to talk to or hang out with.
There's this boy, in all of my classes, who I have a crush on.
Matt Sturniolo.
Him and his brothers were some of the most popular people in the school, and not once have I spoken to them.
I always see Matt around school, girls all around him want to date or hang out with him, but I can see in his eyes that he gets overwhelmed.
I have social anxiety like Matt, and I can see how hard it is for him to be a center of attention when really, he'd want to he left alone.
Today, was the same as always, I'm invisible to everyone, and Matt is being swarmed by girls, but he seems different. More overwhelmed than usual, flinching a lot and eyes darting around the room.
He pushes the girls away, walking into an empty classroom, as Chris and Nick are nowhere to be found.
I walk past the girls who are scoffing and giggling at Matt's behaviour, and it takes me a lot of strength not to punch the girls then and there.
I knock on the classroom door, but all I hear is sobs and panicked breathing, so I slowly open the door.
I walk in and see Matt sitting on the floor knees to his chest, with his head between his legs, having a bad panic attack.
"Matt?" I say, sitting down in front of him.
He look up at me, with red eyes and having a hard time taking deep breaths.
"Hey, you probably don't know me, but I wanna help you." I whisper, keeping a calm voice, and he nods, saying that I can help him.
"Okay, deep breath in for 4 seconds, hold it for 4, exhale for 4 and then hold it for 4 seconds, then repeat okay? I'll do it with you...inhale." I say, and we both inhale, mine clear and relaxed, but his is shaky, but he still tries.
"Good, now hold it." We both hold it, but Matt has some trouble, so we restart the process until he completes a whole cycle of it.
"That's it, good job, let's try again." We spend the next few minutes going through the breathing technique until Matt can breathe a bit more normally.
I hand him some tissues and he wipes his eyes, fixes himself up then stands.
"Thank you Y/N." He says. Wait, he knows my name?
"You-You know who I am?" I ask, a bit confused since no one really knew me.
"Yeah of course I do. You're in my classes and always seem to notice how much I hate those girls." He replies and we laugh at how stupid those girls are.
"But, thank you, only Nick and Chris help me out, so I thought I was a lost cause then. Do you wanna have lunch with us today?" He asks, and I nod.
"That would be nice, thank you." I reply, and he smiles, as we walk to our next class.
Time Skip
Over the next few weeks, mine and Matt's friendship has developed into more of a talking stage.
We'd hang out together, going to arcades and cinemas, or he'd invite me to join in with their videos.
We always help each other out with panic attacks or bad anxiety days by simply watching movies, distracting one another or sometimes just by simple hugs.
School life still gets tough, Matt still gets overcrowded by the girls, and recently the girls have started to bully me, which is hard.
However, this Friday, is prom and I'm so excited, even though I don't have a date, me, Matt, Chris and Nick are all going as friends and to have fun.
I have an amazing Y/F/C dress, same colour shoes and a bag. My hair will be (whatever style you want) and light makeup.
"Matt, what colour tie are you wearing to prom?" I ask, sitting on the couch next to him, since he invited me over this morning.
"Y/F/C, why?" He replies, looking a me, a bit nervous.
"Really? That's the colour of my dress!" I exclaim, and he laughs.
"I know it is, that's why I picked my tie to be the same colour." He states, and I sit to face him, confused.
"Why?" I ask, and he takes a deep breaths.
"Y/N, ever since I saw you...the quiet girl in my classes who never spoke, I knew that I liked you, you're beautiful and caring. You helped me with my panic attack last month and that meant I could finally talk to you. Now we're great friends, but I really like you. Y/N will you go to prom with me?" He asks, and I gasp in surprise, nodding.
"Yes, yes, I will." I say, and Chris and Nick come in firing confetti cannons and cheering as they record it too.
"You scared the crap out of me!" I exclaim, picking confetti out of my hair, with Matt helping me.
"We've been waiting since you arrived! He said we was gonna do it as soon as you walked in!" Chris shouted, ruffling Matt's hair, as Nick pats his back.
"I was nervous alright?!" Matt defends, as we all laugh.
"Yeah, I could definitely see that." I say, and he makes a face of surprise, pulling me into him, making Chris and Nick fake gag.
"I'm hurt. I thought you was on my side." He says, wiping an imaginary tear.
"Ugh, fine, I'm sorry." I say, and he smiles, ruffling my own hair, making me swat his hand away.
As we all clean up the confetti, I'm grateful that I found and helped Matt when he needed it.
Now? I have a prom date and his two boisterous brothers that I can call my friends.
