"You're related to a Greek god?" I exclaimed, curiosity hitting me like a truck.
"Yes yes. Now hurry up!" Callista responded, pushing my leg towards the guild hall entrance. I sigh. Here goes nothing.
Now:
I push the large wooden doors of the guild hall inward with all my strength. The doors creak open, making everyone look towards me. I feel uncomfortable as all the eyes follow me as I walk to Mira, Callista following close behind.
"Hey Mira, is Gramps in his office right now?" I asked the eldest Strauss as I walked closer to the bar.
"Yeah. He's doing some paperwork but I don't think he'll mind you visiting him," she replied, eyeing the black fox at my feet. "What's with the adorable fox?"
"Oh um... It was injured so I helped it. I guess it's just taken a liking to me," I answered, unsure if my lie was believable enough.
"Well, you've always had an easy time making friends," she giggles, making me let out a breath I didn't even know I was holding in.
"Haha, I guess so. Well, I need to go talk to Gramps now," I said, waving bye to Mira with Callista following close behind me.
I walk up the wooden stairs as everyone else started to mind their own business, ignoring my new fox friend. I go walk to Gramps' office door, taking a deep breath before knocking on the door. "Come in!" I hear Gramps say, allowing me to reach for the doorknob and open the door.
"Lucy? What is it, my child?" He asked me as he placed his quill to the side.
"I-I um..." I stuttered. I can't just quit Fairy Tail so suddenly. They'll get suspicious or worried. I push these thoughts away, reminding myself of my other family waiting for me on the other side. "I wish to leave Fairy Tail. Temporarily," I babbled, wanting to get this done and over with.
"W-What? A-Are you sure?" He questioned, his face suddenly filled with worry.
"Y-Yes. I'm only going to be gone for a few years to train," I explained as I feel tears begging to breakthrough.
"If you want, we can help you. B-But if this is your wish, I shall not oppose," he sighed as he started to tear up.
"I want to do this myself, so please, don't make this harder," I muttered, trying to keep my tears back as I put right hand out, showing my guild mark.
"As you wish..." He took my hand and covered it with his own hand. A dim light shined under his hand and he removed it soon after, revealing my now blank hand where my guild mark once was. My tears fell down my face as I saw my bare hand. This is really happening.
"I'll see you in a few years, Gramps," I promised, leaving his office as I heard soft sobs behind me. I quickly wipe away my tears to prevent from anyone asking questions. I walked to the railing, leaning on it, looking at all my former guild members. Cana drinking while Wakaba and Macao tell her to calm down. Juvia clinging onto Gray. Laxus brooding in his little corner. Levy and Gajeel subtly flirting with each other. I swear to god, by the time I get back, they better be together. I sadly smile to myself. I need to grow strong so I can proudly say I'm a wizard. I will always be a Fairy Tail wizard. Goodbye, everyone...
I walk down the steps slowly, knowing that I should tell everyone that I'm leaving. I should move closer to the door just in case I need to make a run for it though. I slowly start walking closer and closer to the guild hall doors, hiding my right hand, when a voice snaps me out of my trance.
"Yo Luce!" I look up to see no other than the pyromaniac himself. One of my best friends. The one who brought me to Fairy Tail. Natsu Dragneel. He runs in through the guild entrance with Happy not far behind him, quickly making their way towards me
"Oh. Hey Natsu," I replied, instantly regretting how sad I must have sounded. Callista looks at me with worry. She can tell that he just made leaving 10 times harder.
"Luce, what's up? You seem off," Natsu points out as he slows down to a stop in front of me.
"I-I um, need to go..." I say, moving passed him quickly, trying to keep myself from crying. As I pass Natsu, I feel someone grab my right hand. Shoot.
"Luce?" He said, his voice laced with confusion and worry. I turn towards him as he still holds my hand in his. Tears threaten to fall as I see him glance ever so slightly at my hand. "Luce, where's your guild mark?" He questions, though I'm sure he knows the answer to that question already.
I take my hand back from him, hugging it close to my chest. "Listen Natsu..." I start, but I'm quickly cut off.
"Luce! Where's your guild mark?!" He exploded, tears slowly running down his face. At this point, everyone's looking in our direction.
"I'm leaving for a few years to train," I explained as I avoid eye contact him, tears slowly trailing down my face.
"Lushie...." Happy cries as he stays floating next to Natsu.
"Y-You're leaving us?" He stuttered as he tried to blink his tears away, though it fails and they just fall faster.
"O-Only for a few years," I noted as my lower lip starts to quiver.
"L-Luce, please! I-If it's training you need help with, we can help you! Just d-don't leave us..." Natsu pleaded, sadness evident in his voice. "We all need you here." I look around the guild hall to see everyone on the brink of tears, if they weren't already crying that is.
"T-This isn't something you guys can help me with. I'm sorry," I mumble those last few words, as it's too hard for me to talk anymore.
"Please-"
"I'm sorry!" I screamed, tears streaming down my face as I turn around and run out of the guild hall. This is too painful.
• NATSU'S POV •
"Lucy!" I shouted, but it was too late. She was gone already. A small black fox with weird purple eyes looked at me with sympathy before following Lucy.
I fell to my knees, not wanting to believe that Lucy, our Lucy, Fairy Tail's Lucy, was gone. I knew that I should've run after her, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. It was like I was frozen in place. Instead, I see Erza, Gray, Levy, Gajeel, Mira, Cana, Juvia, Happy, Wendy, and Carla go after her. Everyone else was too speechless to even move. I just stared at the place where Lucy last stood, until I broke down into tears.
• LUCY'S POV •
I can't do this. I'm doing this for them. I need to grow stronger, for Fairy Tail. I can't soil the name Fairy Tail any longer.
Before I knew it, I was back to the abandoned cabin in the forest where I first met Callista. Callista! I forgot her back in the guild hall. I turn around, looking at the path where I came from, crossing my fingers that Callista was able to follow me after my break down.
I sigh, relieved to see a small black fox coming through the trees. "Shapeshift: Human!" Callista exclaims as she's rushing towards me. The light quickly vanishes to reveal Callista in her human form. "We need to hurry. There were some people following me," she warned. Who's following her? Is it my Fairy Tail friends?
Before I could ask, she starts chanting an incantation, probably to open the portal to wherever my mom grew up. "I call upon the gods of every religion, open gateway between Earthland and The Sacred Universe! Aecronica!" She exclaimed, and with that, a golden doorway appeared, a white light replacing where a door was supposed to go. A pillar of white light shining down onto the gateway, surrounding the golden door, lighting up the dark afternoon sky."Let's go, Lulu!" Callista exclaimed, before taking a hold of my hand and looking at the portal.
"Please wait," I urged, standing my ground. She looked back at me and nodded her head. She released my hand as I looked back to the path to see Erza, Gray, Levy, Gajeel, Mira, Cana, Juvia, Happy, Wendy, and Carla running passed the trees. They stopped when they saw me, the mysterious dark-haired girl, and the large golden gateway.
"Lu, please. Don't leave us like this," Levy exclaimed, tears falling down her face as Gajeel embraced her.
"Let's go to the guild hall and talk this through," Erza reasoned as she struggled to keep her tears in check.
"Guys, I'm sorry. I need to do this," I told them, tears no longer falling as I have no more tears left to cry.
"Please just-" Gray began.
"Don't make this any harder for me than it already is," I interrupted, knowing that if I spoke to them any longer, I would turn back to them in a heartbeat.
"Just... come back soon..." Gray muttered, refusing to look at me as a few tears left his eyes.
"I promise. I'll be back before you know it," I said as my legs begin to tremble.
"Lulu, the gateway will close soon. I don't know when I'll be able to open it again," Callista explained, her voice filled with sadness and sympathy.
I look towards Callista then back to my friends. "I guess this is goodbye," I said, walking into the portal with Callista.
Before we were completely consumed by the portal, I turned to look at every one. "For now?" Gray added, looking directly into my eyes.
"For now," I assured as I nodded my head, my voice echoing through the silent forest as we are fully consumed by the blinding light.
• GRAY'S POV •
She's really gone now. Everyone fell silent. No one could comprehend was just happened. Tears started streaming down my face as I realize I may never see her for years. I punch a tree as hard as I can, ignoring the pain it inflicted on my hand. I hadn't felt this sad since Ur.
"You better keep your promise, Lucy..." I whisper to myself. "This is only a goodbye for now."
• LUCY'S POV •
As soon as Callista and I stepped out of the gateway, it disappeared, leaving me and my friends in different realms. My legs began to feel like jelly as they trembled even more. I fell to the ground, tears falling down from my face before I could even realize it. I guess I lied earlier. I guess I still do have a few tears left to cry.
