She took a moment to shed the sleep from her brain, to allow the visions of the night to give way to the day, to move from that which she created on a whim to things more fixed and real.
In a few minutes she will be able to greet the sunlight, to see the colours as bright as the backlit images of cinema screens; She will adjust. For now let it come with the subtleness of a gentle dawn.
She was staring from the window at all these glowing colours until she decided to dress up and get ready for today's lesson. Minghao was still sleeping, at least that's what she thought, entering the narrow bathroom. It took her about an hour to get ready.
She slowly walked out with some bags on her hand until she decided to brush them against the desk and go to wake Minghao up. She sat on his bed and tenderly touched his shoulder.
"Hao..." She was caressing him while her eyes were glued to his soft face features of a boy sleeping.
"Mmhm..." He mumbled coming closer to the girl with his eyes still shuttered. The girl caressed his hair this time, a move that the boy adored. "Wake up 8, we have to go to our class..." She whispered tenderly touching him, like she is his mother.
His eyes slowly open and get locked with the girl's. "Soonie?" He said, clearing his thoat as it was probably sore. Slowly he gets the half of his body up, laying onto the wall and his one hand wiped his forehead.
"Are you okay?" She asked concerned for the boy's condition. Minghao seemed frazzled and he just woke up.
"I must be sick..." He retorts with a wobbly voice alerting Soon-hee to do something. "Lay down again!" She helped him get under the duvets and covered him well. "Don't go to college today... I am gonna make you something hot to drink..." She said ready to approach the tiny kitchen only to be stopped by his voice.
"Wait... Aren't you going to college?" He stuttered, glaring at her back. She titled around surprised.
"No! I am gonna stay here to take care of you..." She answered, staring at his euxausted body. "N-no you don't have to... Go to college!" He tried to persuade her to leave, a fact that perplexed the innocent girl.
"And what about you?" She asked approaching his bed a little. He played it almost dead wiping his forehead for the last time.
"Don't worry about me! I will be okay... Go and take some notes for me as well... Please!" He almost made her do it. "Fine Hao..." The girl left the room bewildered. She walked down the stairs and exited the gates to make her way to her college.
She fixed her bag on her right shoulder, entering the massive hallway she is used at entering every morning. With a brief glimpse on her clock she realised she should be in class in about a minute. She ran down the hallway and entered right on time.
She sat on a random seat and put her bag onto the wooden table. The truth is she felt alone without Minghao sitting right next to her as always. It was all so uneasy and quite awkward for her.
"Lola... Thank you for saving me a seat..." Jisoo appeared out of nowhere and sat right next to the girl.
"I-I didn't even save you a seat..." She said staring at the boy and he just shrugged his shoulders so unbothered. "Baby steps..." He smirked and the girl scoffed surprised. What does he even want?
"So did you have fun last night?" He asked with a sly smirk on his face. Was he reffering to her non-existence boyfriend. "It was G-good..." She tried to avoid his questions at all costs. "Were you with your boyfriend?" He was presistent over this certain topic.
"Yes..." She lied trying to sound convincing enough. Joshua of course had to continue with all the awkward questions. "You didn't tell me... What is your Boyfriend's name!?" He played it innocent, trying to know a little more about her boyfriend but that was not the case and they both knew.
"Um... J-John..." She scratched the back of her head secretely praying to disappear. "John?" Joshua asked bewildered.
"Yeah... John ..." She never gave up at lying. Joshua was doubting her every word but still never said anything. "Isn't he Korean?" He asked trying to restrain his silly laughter. "N-No... He is European!" She improvised the last information and Jisoo tried not to burst out laughing.
"A-and... Where did two you meet?" He was holding his whole self back, managing to stay calm and not hysterically laugh. "He came on a trip... with his family... and... asked me for instructions on the street!" The whole ecxuse was actually making Joshua assured she is lying but she couldnt tell her yet.
"How many years are you together?" He asked, acting like she believes her.
"2!" She wiped her forehead thinking she got out of it. "Okay I have a last question!" Joshua rubbed his hands together with a dorky smile... Finally, the last question! She was gonna get out of it soon enough.
"Are you lying to me?" He asked out of nowhere and Soon-hee gulped. Damn it! She was so close but actually failed to persuade him.
"What? Of course not!" She crossed her arms trying to look at a different direction just to conceal the truth for a little longer. She needs to hide her feelings and that will happen only if Jisoo thinks she likes someone else.
"Then Look into my eyes and say it, say you have a boyfriend you love... Do it Lola!" He said and the girl slowly titled around to meet his doe eyes. Her heart skipped a beat.
"I..." She said but staring a him was obviously making it harder.
"I have a boyfriend I love..." She lied again trying to act better than an actress. Joshua scoffed laying back on his seat.
"Yeah Whatever..." He said like he was jealous for a moment. At the exact same moment her phone rung and she rushed to grab it. "Is it John?" Joshua sarcastically retorted driving the girl nuts. "Exactly!" She said with a judgy face and picked it up without even seeing the name on thelock screen.
"Hey John!" She played it off in a cool way, while Joshua's eyes didn't leave her image. "Who is John?" Jihoon asked from the other side almosy inable 6to comprehend what's going on. "Yeah baby, me too..." She continued acting leading Joshua to scoff and cross his arms.,
"Soon-hee It's Jihoon! Do you have a boyfriend named John? What the hell?" He asked leading Soon-hee to have cold sweat all around her body.
"Not exactly baby..." She answered to Jihoon bat he just scoffed although soonie couldnt see him. "Never call me baby again... It's disgusting..." The man was doing his best to undrestand but he was failing.
"Okay Honey!" She changed the nick name based to her brother's likings. Jihoon scoffed again like it was his job. "Look, I don't know what you are trying to do... Call me when you can!" He was about to hung up but then heard his sister voice.
"Buy John... I love you too" She said and the boy hang up disgusted. "No.... Hang up first..." She was trying to sound sentimental and be convincing although she was talking alone. "No,no you go first..." Joshua was staring at her all red. "Fine Fine... I will... See ya... Bye..." She hung up and put her phone onto the desk.
She pretended to have a big smile onto her face and not get revealed to be lying all this time.
"What?" Joshua asked trying not to look at her. "Oh nothing... I am just happy.." She said but Joshua still never believed her.
"Yeah... You look really happy..." He smiled letting it off for just the time being. He knew she was lying but decided to let her continue with is until she admits it herself. The professor walked in alerting the both of them to stare at the front view. He started talking about the lesson and Jisoo leaned closer to the table.
"Do you have a pen?" He asked her and the girl took one out of her pencil case. "Thanks Lola..." He started taking some noted of the professor's sayings.
"So... You are gonna have to do an assigment for this samaster... In the pairs of two people!" He announced writting the title of the assigment on the whiteboard. Soonie wanted to do that with Minghao but he was not even here.
"Choose someone that is in class right now... People that happen to be absent today will be paired tomorrow with each other..." He said and Soon-hee scoffed. Really Minghao? Why did you have to be sick today? She thought.
"Soon-hee Let's be together..." The man said and the girl swooned by the hue of his demanding voice. Why is she sweating over this? "I mean... on the assigment!" Jisoo corrected himself while the girl was literally over thinking.
"Do you even know how to read?" She teased him trying to cover her reddish cheeks. "Don't you wanna test me and see for yourself?" He winked playfully as the girl scoffed with both of her arms crossed. "I would rather pass..." She hissed and the boy leaned closer.
"C'mon... I want you... as my partner..." He had those puppy eyes almost clinging onto the girl. Although she wanted to decline something inside her wasnt letting her do it. "W-why?" She was stolling this from happening.
"Because I am having a good time when I am with you!" He smiled, leading the girl to sigh and surrender to his request. "Fine Shua..." She said and leaned onto the table. "So shall I go and right our pair on the paper?" He asked and the girl nodded not even willing to fight anymore.
"Perfect!" He got up and ran down the staris into a quick pace. She could see him leaning onto the teacher's desk and write something. He looked at her from afar and smiled discreetly. As soon as he was done he walked the first step of the stairs but a voice stopped him.
"Hey Josh!" A girl from a group of women greeted him. He stopped right away and titled around to look at them. "Oh hey ladies!" He said and sat near them for a second so they could share the basics. He already knew all of them, while Soon-hee almost choked on her water. Her eyes were shooting death glares towards him although he couldn't see.
Did he just ditch her? Is this for real?
After a wile he got up, saying goodbye to the girls and getting up the stairway. Soon-hee immediately looked at a different direction trying to look cool. Joshua sat right next to her once again with a smile.
"I am sorry... I saw some friends and had to greet them..." He said but Soon-hee saw how these girls were looking at him.
"It's okay... I need to go..." She got up and started fixing her bag frustrated. "Wait, are you okay?" He said grabbing her wrist, averting her from escaping that easily. "I... I need to go! Minghao is sick..." Soon-hee answered trying to use her friend as an excuse.
"He is sick? He seemed fine to me this morning..." The guy accidentally said not knowing about what Joshua was talking.
"What do you mean, this morning?" The girl finally stared at him. "Well, when I was walking down the corridor to adjourn from the college I saw him walking down the aisle, almost running and we talked..." Joshua retorts and Soon-hee sits down leaning closer to him.
"And what did he say?" She asked and Joshua scratched is head trying to remember. "Well, he said he is running late and he needed to be somewhere..."
"You are not lying, right?" She asked ready to explode. "Why would I?" He asked and Soon-hee got up wearing her bag onto her shoulders.
"That's it... He is dead..."
"What, why?" He asked perplexed.
"Cause he lied to me and lying is really bad..." She said shaking her head in desbelief.
"You would know..." Joshua whispred quite playfully.
"What?" The girl stared at him ready to attack.
"Nothing..." He retorts.
