Ever since the whole 'incident' with Eun Ha, Mark had become doubly careful when it came to hanging out with her, but now that she was integrated into the school community, she had her own group of friends now and no longer relied on Mark to help her around, things had slowly turned back normal and you even hung out with both of them sometimes when all of you had to stay back for classes, more often than not, all three of you would go back to Mark's place and stay up doing projects. In fact, you could even say that you had grown fonder of her over the past few weeks, after you got over the whole embarrassing 'I-was-jealous-of-you,' thing and her dazzling beauty, she was actually incredibly fun to hang out with.
You had made Mark pinkie-swear on your relationship that he would never reveal what you thought about his cousin because if he did you might just bury yourself at home and never show your face in the light of day ever again.
So life was good, as far as it could be when it came to being a senior at high school, you had an amazing boyfriend, your bunch of close friends, an annoying but lovable brother, all of you on your way to graduating.
After School
'(Y/N)!" Eunha called out as she rushed to your side, quickly hooking her arm in yours, waving to her gaggle of friends that had exited the science lab, her entire body smelling strongly of ammonia which made you wrinkle your nose.
'What did you guys do in there?" you demanded to know, trying your best not to gag at the fumes as you waved your hand in front of your face.
'Neutralization, you know acids, alkalis, salts that sort of thing,' she shrugged causing the cloud of ammonia to drift even further to you.
'Ewww,' you giggled, shoving her away as she pouted trying to chase you around the hallway, darting and ducking, avoiding her.
'You guys are being ridiculous,' Mark's voice came down from the hallway, sauntering down, his book bag slung on one shoulder.
'Says the ridiculous one,' Eunha snapped as she stopped chasing you and punched your boyfriend in the arm instead.
Now that you had spent more time with her, you slowly got to notice all her patterns and the way she interacted with Mark was more of a familial one rather than a 'I'm-going-to-steal-your-boyfriend' away vibe. You had been a jealous fool not to have noticed it earlier.
'Stop choking my girlfriend with your toxic fumes,' Mark wrinkled his nose exactly like you as she drifted up to him, quickly wriggling away to your side as you laughed aloud at the look on Eunha's face.
'You guys make me regret being single, stop being so disgustingly cute,' Eunha groaned as she was resigned to walk alone, slightly further away from both of you, to prevent from inhaling the sharp fumes.
As if to prove a point, Mark swiftly slipped your book bag of your shoulder carrying it on the same shoulder as his, slung his other arm around you and kissed you on the top of your head, all simultaneously.
'My point is: PROVEN,' Eunha exclaimed as she closed her eye to how cheesy both of you were being.
'But honestly, you could have any of the guys in the school, how are you still single?' you were mystified at the mere thought of it.
Eunha's face dragged into a frown and you could feel Mark nudging you in the back as you glanced up at him and he shook his head, signalling not to continue with your line of questioning.
The awkward silence that settled on the three of you was almost tangible so you would have gotten down on your knees and thanked the person that called Eunha just then.
'Hello?" she asked, brows furrowing. 'No, I'm going back home with Mark, yeah he's here right now. Why? I thought... okay fine,' she shrugged before handing the phone to your boyfriend who accepted it quizzically.
'Hello?' he asked into the mouthpiece. 'Jackson? Oh crap, sorry, I forgot, yeah yeah, I'll head on to class right now, yes yes I know the rest are going to murder me,' he huffed before ending the call and handing the phone back to his cousin who quirked an eyebrow at him, as he turned to you eyes apologetic.
'I'm really sorry,' slinging off your bag handing it to you. 'I completely forgot that I had practise today,' he muttered running a hand through his light lilac hair. 'Can you guys crash at Eunha's place?" he asked desperately turning to her as she shrugged as if it was no big deal.
'I'll make it up to you, I promise,' he said quickly pecking you on the cheek once before turning around and dashing around the corner to get to school.
Slinging an arm in yours, Eunha seemed marginally more cheerful after Mark had left. 'I guess it's just us two huh?"
'Yeah,' you shrugged, watching his shoes disappear around the corner with a slightly heavy heart.
Eunha's House
You had only been to her house once or twice, and it had always been together with Mark so the slight tension in the air was only intensified as she invited you upstairs, allowing you to dump your stuff on her huge plush bed, as she ran to the bathroom to rid herself off the cloud of ammonia that was surrounding her.
Seeing as you had nothing else to do, and the judging by the sounds of the water running in the shower, Eunha would be inside there for a while, you decided to be nosy and check out the rest of her room.
Everything about it screamed 'Eunha' from the beige walls to the fairy lights she had strung up near her bed, decorating the little polaroids of her and her friends that she had left in America, plus a few new additions that included you and Mark. You were surprised to find that Mark was in most of the pictures, albeit it he looked quite young, his innocent face facing the camera.
There was a photo album on one of her shelves, hidden amongst the 5SOS albums that seemed to take up most of the space. Sliding it out carefully, the cover crinkled as you flipped it open, showing it hadn't been taken out in a while. You coughed a little when the dust puffed into your face, rubbing your nose.
You couldn't help but smile as you saw the baby pics of Eunha and who you assumed to be Mark because as you flipped the pages it seemed to tell a little story as they grew up. As you flipped to the end of the book you seemed to notice a recurring face together with two of them. There was a girl with large hazel eyes, not as pretty as Eunha, but still dazzling, and all three of them seemed to be best friends until you reached the section where you flipped the page open to a picture of Mark and the girl, he had his arm around her and he was kissing the top of her head as both of them looked away from the camera. It was clearly a candid shot, not taken in Korea, it had probably been one of the times when Mark had gone back to see his family.
Your heart lurched in your chest a bit, as you with numb fingers, slipped the picture out of the plastic sleeve, turning it around to check for a date, anything that was scrawled on it, but it was of no use because all you discovered was a blank white backing of the picture.
The usually comforting stream of water that you had been hearing ever since you came into the room stopped and you leapt up, pocketing the picture and shoving the photo album back into the shelf just as Eunha stepped out of the shower, ammonia free.
'Thank God I got that all off,' she sighed, satisfied getting a good look at you where you stood. 'You okay? You look like someone just punched you in the gut,' she asked, before tossing her uniform in the laundry basket, keeping a close eye on you.
'No, I'm -uh fine,' you muttered, pocketing the picture deeper, you felt it burn in there like an accusation and the either the pallor of your face or your nervous fidgeting was bound to give you away.
Fortunately, she seemed pretty pre-occupied and didn't notice your abnormal behaviour. 'So, what should we do while waiting for Mark?" she asked, grabbing her hair dryer and plugging it in.
'I totally forgot,' you blurted out. 'My brother's expecting me for an early dinner tonight,'
'Yugyeom?' she arched an eyebrow, as you nodded enthusiastically.
'Huh, I guess I'm going to be all alone then,' she pouted, turning off the hair-dryer to give you the evil eye.
'I'll make it up to you,' you promised, snatching up your bag, slinging it over your shoulder, one hand still deep inside the incriminating pocket.
She remained silent as she watched you run, before calling out.
'HEY (Y/N),'
'Yeah,' you gulped turning to her, feeling that she was bound to have caught on to you.
'If I see you and Mark hanging out on your story...' she let the playful threat linger as you laughed nervously.
'I swear I'm going back home,' you reassured her, backing away before running downstairs.
At Home
'Hey Mom!' you called out dashing upstairs, not even bothering to see her in the kitchen.
'(Y/N), you're home-,' she watched you run upstairs before the your door slamming close.
'Early,' your mother finished off the sentence with a shake of her head before returning her attention to the kimchi stew that was supposed to be your dinner.
Teenagers these days... always running around and slamming doors, she thought sagely as she added another dash of salt into the stew.
In Your Room
Homework ignored, you locked the door, refusing to be disturbed, plugged in your phone into the charger and proceeded to inspect the picture which had somehow managed to survive its ride in your jeans.
The fact that it didn't have a date drove you crazy... how were you supposed to know if it was a recent picture or not?? Also, who was this mysterious girl?? You groaned internally, you thought you had had enough of this shit when you got over the whole 'Eunha' thing but NOPE your boyfriend seemed to be too damned attractive for his own good.
You were so busy scrutinising every detail of the picture that you didn't notice the fact that your phone was having a seizure next to your bed.
Tossing the picture on your pillow, you turned to rescue your phone.
Mark: Eunha told me you left early??
Mark: Where r u? R u ok?
Mark: I'm still @ dance practise
Mark: She said Yugyeom wanted you to be back early? But he's still with me
You gulped at the amount of urgent messages from Mark, forgetting that the moment you left, Eunha would report everything to her cousin and your 'lie' would have a few gaping holes in it.
Deciding to ignore his message, you just didn't have the mood to reply, sulking in bed as you proceeded to, like any insanely jealous girlfriend, stalk Eunha on Instagram and try to find the same girl in any of her tagged pictures.
You were halfway scrolling when you heard the sound of the door being opened downstairs and you assumed that it was either Yugyeom or your dad coming back home. So, when you heard the footsteps running upstairs, you didn't think much of them until of course, you heard the fist slamming against your door, startling you from your bed, nearly tumbling down as the ruckus continued.
'What the hell??" you muttered to yourself. The first thing you thought was that the house was getting robbed and your heart leapt to your throat at the thought. Scanning the room, you tried to find anything that would help you brain the intruder if he somehow managed to force his way in.
Unfortunately, the only thing that was populating your room was your mound of soft toys which honestly, was not going to be of any help unless you wanted to dive in and hide, in the mound.
Biting your lip, you were ready to climb out of the window, one leg already out of the window ledge as the door strained against the hinges before slamming open.
'(Y/N)??' Mark asked, panting heavily, as he didn't even bother looking at the damage that he had done.
'Um-I,' you realised that you found yourself in an extremely awkward position and quickly ducked back into the room, eyeing the door which now swung, creaking pitifully.
'You didn't answer any of my texts,' he pointed out calmly to your cell phone which was still charging.
Head swivelling from the phone to your boyfriend, you bit your lip unsure of what excuse to create. 'Did you just... kick down my door?" you asked, wondering what your dad was going to make of that when he came home.
'I told you.... if you distanced yourself away from me again for no reason I would kick the door down,' Mark shrugged as if it was no big deal.
'I-well,' you spluttered. 'I didn't think you would take it literally!?" you exclaimed as you sank on your bed, not objecting when Mark joined you.
'I'm nothing if not a man of his word,' he said solemnly, leaning on your shoulder as if kicking down your door had not tired him out at all. 'Also,' he noted, plucking the picture from your pillow, your face paling when he twisted it between his fingers.
'Eunha told me she noticed this was missing,' he flipped the picture over and over in his slender fingers, your eyes glued to them, heart rate increasing with every flip.
'I-well,' you couldn't seem to string a coherent sentence today as Mark flipped the picture one more time scrutinising it, a frown deepening on his face.
You were almost scared to ask him who she was but he sighed, shaking his head.
'I know what you're thinking,' he said wearily, head still on your shoulder, but you twisted away to hear his explanation.
'The girl in the picture,' he scowled, gripping it between his thumb and forefinger suddenly, turning white while his face turned a livid red. 'Is my ex girlfriend,' he muttered.
'Oh, I'm sorry it wasn't my place to-,' you tried to back away but he beckoned you closer showing he wasn't annoyed at you but he got that distant look in his eyes that he did when he was thinking about his hometown LA.
'No, I should have told you, I just didn't want to screw up what we have going on... we're good together (Y/N),' he admitted and your heart did a little squeak of happiness when he said that. 'And I didn't want you to compare yourself with my exes because they are and never will be you,' he brought your face to his before touching your lips with his very very briefly but even that slight touch made your head whirl and you completely forgot about the picture he was holding.
You gasped slightly when he let you go, you were sure your face was nearly as red as his and hid your face behind a pillow as he chuckled.
'Besides,' he grumbled, climbing in next to you, trying to peek over the pillow. 'She cheated on me... twice... with a jock,' Mark wrinkled his nose in disgust as you let out a ridiculous laugh.
'Her loss,' you teased as he started cuddling you, not caring that the door was wide open and that your mom could come in at any moment and see both of you together.
'And my gain,' he grinned pressing his lips against your hair as he lifted you on his lap, your hair streaming on his legs.
'Also...,' you paused for a while before giving him the evil eye. 'Exes?" you asked placing a heavy emphasis on the S.
'One ex,' Mark reassured you. 'Despite my stellar looks I've never been a hot item,' he threw his hands up in the air as you giggled. 'Besides, you silly beautiful girl,' he teased tugging on your hair. 'They can't compare to you. you're my first actual relationship, she was more like a... test run?"
'First?" you asked, the mundane word suddenly sounding magical.
'Everything,' he grinned, stroking your hair as you relaxed allowing yourself to feel contented once more.
Until... a slightly nasal voice pierced your little bubble of peace.
'Hyung?? Did you just kick down the door?"
Sigh. Yugyeom was home.
