As me and Becca walked into the lunch hall, she led me to the popular table where both groups were sat. I sat next to Connie and infront of Alex, i think. Me and Becca greeted everyone and they continued with the group conversation. I zoned out before I felt eyes on me and soon met them. I gently smiled at the boy infront of me and decided to make small talk with him.

"What are they even talking about?" I said slightly giggling to ease the awkward atmosphere.

"I don't know something about this girl's body count or something" he said laughing.

"I'm Nevaeh by the way" I said extending my hand.

"I know. I'm Alex. I'm gonna call you Eva for short" he said shaking it.

"So were on nicknames basis already" I said with a hint of flirtiness.

"I guess so" he said looking me up and down.

"Oo look at these to flirting already" I heard as I looked away from Alex's eyes. The voice was came from Becca who was obviously looking to start unnecessary drama. I rolled my eyes and brushed the comment off.

"Can two people not talk now?" I said as Alex nodded his head in agreement. I turned to listen to the boring conversation and ended up zoning out again until I heard Maya's name get mentioned.

"Omg Brandt. I can't believe UGIS asked you out, like, she really thought you would say yes" Heather said as the table errupted in laughter. I, of course, didn't laugh because 1. im not a bully and 2. the joke didn't even hit.

"Nevaeh, why do you even hang out with them. They're pulling your reputation down" Brandt said genuinly interested.

"They're actually nice people and I've known them like my whole lives" I said defending the two girls who I was currently on bad terms with. Obviously, I wasn't gonna chat about them behind their backs because that's just fake and if you don't defend your friends name behind their back you're not a true friend.

Behind Alex, I could see Maya and Anna glaring at me which meant that they either overheard what they said or they were jealous I was sat with the 'popular' group. I felt bad but at the same time she lowkey brought it upon herself. Alex noticed and looked at me so he attempted to switch the conversation.

"Well that doesn't matter cuz she's got us now" Alex said sensing how awkward the situation was. I smiled in appreciation and throughout before I got up to head to the 'bathroom' but in reality, I just wanted to get away from the others.

As I walked down the hallways, I saw the papers still up so I ripped them down and threw them in the trash before I heard someone call my name from behind me.

"Nevaeh wait up" I turned around and noticed it was Alex so I waited for him before we started walking together. "So where are you off too?"

"I need to find my brother to give him back his hoodie, do you want to come with me?" I said enjoying his company.

"Yeah of course, anything to spend more time with you" he said as I looked away in shyness. We made our way outside, where the 10th graders sit and I walked over to my brother's group.

"Vaeh what are you doing here?" he asked noticing me approach his table.

"Just returning your hoodie. It's too hot, I don't need it" he said before looking at me with a dirty look.

"Put that shit back on"

"No, why"

"Because I said so Nevaeh"

"But why Mari"

"Because of guys like that little dude back there looking at you with sexual intentions" he said before he bucked at Alex and gave him a dirty look. I laughed at his stupidity and forced the jumper in his hands before walking up to Alex.

"Sorry about this by the way" i said before hugging him and kissing his cheek in front of my brother. Alex's hands snaked around my waist gripping it tightly, before I grabbed his hand and pulled him along as we ran back into the school, passing Maya and Anna on their way to Shuji presumably. We ran off laughing to our next lesson before we took seats next to each other.

"I'm sorry about that by the way, i just HAD to see his reaction. Omg, he's gonna kill me" I said realising how stupid what I did was.

"You're good. If you ever need to annoy your brother again, just let me know" he said as we heard Maya announce something.

"You guys. You guys! After school, I'm gonna bitch out Brandt and Dustin" she said smugly as me and Alex side eyed her.

"She's gonna get her ass whooped" I said. Maya whipped her head around obviously hearing me before she turned back around thinking to herself.

------ TIME SKIP ------

It was now after school and there was a crowd around awaiting the fight. I was stood next to Alex and Anna was opposite us massaging Maya's shoulders.

"Wassup"

"Wassup"

"Midget" Maya whispered unconfidentally.

"What are you doing?" Brandt said confused at the girl's sudden reaction. Maya backed away before Anna pushed her forward again, whispering something in her ears. Me and Alex silently held in our laughs at the awkward situation.

"Midget"

"Ok"

"You midget, Aardvark. You got an aardvark? You got an aardvark!"

"I have a dog" he said before Maya once again backed away to Anna.

"You're a piece of shit" Anna said piping up

"Yeah you're a piece of shit" Maya repeated suddenly gaining confidence.

"Oh, Brandt, you gonna take that" Dustin said encouraging the arguement.

"Personally, I would not have that" I said adding fuel to the fire.

"Midget piece of shit" everyone began cheering "yeah what"

"C'mon c'mon fight"

Me and Alex began ooing and ahhing laughing at Maya's stupidity.

"You gonna take that" "You gonna take that" "Yeah you gonna take that"

"Don't have it Brandt. Say something back" I said now laughing. Brandt just looked at me cluelessly, still having no idea what was going on.

"You a midget piece of shit. And you have and aardvark dick and that's why your dad died."

The crowd quietened down. AWKWARD!

"Oh, yes, yes, yes, yes! Go. Go."

If me and Maya were on good terms, I would've laughed my head off but we weren't so obviously I giggled without anyone knowing.

"Hey Brandt, you okay?" Dustin asked consoling his friend. The boy was understandably crying which made me immediately stiffle my laughter. Everyone knew about Brandt's dad and knew not to bring him up "Can't believe you'd bring up his dad."

"What's actually wrong with you Maya? That was too far" I said.

"What the fawk? Come on"

"You can't help it if Dustin's a bitch" Anna said completely disaknowleging the boy infront of her's feelings. The statement was so random it even made me frown.

"Fuck you!" he said before we heard a honk in the distance which was presumubly Maya's mom considering their frantic reaction. The girls ran off and I looked at the crying boy infront of me, debating whether to comfort him or not. I eventually decided to go up to him.

"I'm sorry about that Brandt. She crossed the line there." I said hugging Brandt.

"It's okay. It's not your fault. Thanks for defending me though" he said hugging me back before I let go. Behind us, I could see Alex with a frown on his face eyeing me and Brandt up and I instantly knew he was jealous so I walked up to him.

"Hi Alex. That was hectic wasn't it" his expression seemed to relax

"Yeah. Are you walking home or getting picked up?"

"I'm walking, do you want to walk together?"

"Yeah sure." We made our way home walking together, talking about everything and anything, laughing at each other's jokes and taking pictures for me to post later before we unfortunately arrived at my house. We hugged and he waited until I got in my house before he left.

"NEVAEH! WHO THE FUCK WAS THAT"

"Bro relax, I just walked into the house and you're already shouting." I said walking off to the kitchen before I sat on the counter.

"Vaeh, I'm being deadass. Is that the same guy you was with in school? Hm. So what, are you guys like a couple now?" he said whilst plating up our food

"No, and even if we were you would either make me break up with him or you would be all up in my business."

"You know that's not true. I just don't want you to get hurt like last time, you know" I said wincing at the past memories. I stayed quiet and took a bit of my food.

"You know I care about you Vaeh" he said taking a deep breath before we continued eating our meal.
