As I walked out the classroom, I noticed signs around the the hallways saying 'Brandt likes Maya' and 'Dustin likes Maya'. Obviously, since I wasn't completely stupid, I knew it was a joke as I heard them whispering about her haircut behind me in class.

Whilst I was walking down the corridor to my PE lesson, I saw Maya talking to Heather and two other girls. She turned around and smiled at me proudly as she resumed her conversation with the other girls. I eventually made my way to PE and sat next to Anna and made small talk before Maya made her way over.

"They think I'm fine and Heather likes my haircut. Brandt loves Maya. Dustin likes Maya. Wait, wait a second. Is there another Maya?" she asked frantically whilst clearly trying to search her mind.

"No, not that I think of" I said. I didn't want to be the one to break her heart and admit that this was all a joke but I knew I had to soon in order to help her not face public embarrasment.

"So its me"

"It's you"

"Omg" 

By then, I had dissociated myself from the conversation and moved away to let Maya and Anna have their moment before I ruined their fun. Soon, a teacher came over and interrupted their conversation handing us all pe kit.

------ TIME SKIP ------

We were all outside, sitting on the bench, waiting our turn, when I heard Maya and Anna getting overly excited because a boy called Brandt was making his way over. I mentally rolled my eyes at how boy crazy they were as I moved up a bit so Brandt could sit next to Maya. I frowned slightly when I noticed Maya staring at his neck before I felt Brandt shift up next to me.

"Hi, I'm Brandt"

"I'm Nevaeh. Nice to meet you"

"I'm not trying to be weird but is the girl sat on the other side of me staring at my neck" he said slightly side eyeing Maya. I slightly giggled before replying.

"Yeah, I noticed it earlier. Sorry about her she's a bit... odd" I said making sure to choose a nice variety of words.

"Well thanks for telling me, you know, if you need a place to sit at lunch you can sit with me and Dustin" he said slightly smiling

"Well thanks for the offer but who's Dustin" 

"Thats him over there" he said pointing to a boy bending over with one pierced ear. I also managed to notice Maya and Anna staring between him and the boy I presumed to be Alex before Anna was shouted at by the teacher. I slightly cringed before I turned back to Brandt.

"Erm I'll see cuz Heather and Connie already invited me to sit with them"

"Alright well I hope you make the right decision" he said before running back on to the field. 

"What was that about? Did he say anything about me? He did, didn't he?" Maya said bombarding me with questions so I decided to come clean about the prank the others were doing on her.

"Maya, i'm not trying to be rude at all, but have you considered the fact that they could be playing a prank on you. I mean the chances of having both of the 'hottest guys' in our year crushing on you are pretty slim" 

"No, what the heck. Why would you say that Nevaeh? They wouldn't do that to me, they obviously like me and I don't appreciate you getting my hopes down" she said turning to face away from me

"Okay Maya, but i'm just warning you cuz you never know someone's true intentions" i said before turning back to the field. I heard Maya cheering on Anna as I watched her kick a ball into 'Alex's' face. I turned around as I tried to hold in my laughter but it didn't really work.

"Man down! Everybody sit down" coach yelled as Alex lay on the floor holding his nose. "Hey, you, take your victim to the nurse." she yelled as I continued dying of laughter. I felt Maya's glare as I made my way to the field as it was my turn.

Dustin rolled the ball at me and I kicked it pretty far. He walked over to me and high fived me as we made small talk.

"That was a good kick. I'm Dustin by the way"

"I know. I'm Nevaeh."

"You know that was a good kick or you know that I'm Dustin" he said referring to my response.

"Both. I've always been good at sport and Brandt introduced you earlier. He told me I should sit with you guys at lunch."

"Alright well I'll see you there" he said walking off smirking.

------  TIME SKIP ------

I was sat infront of Maya and Anna, when I heard them whispering about Dustin being a bitch so obviously I turned around to join the conversation.

"Yeah so I really think you should just go with Brandt. I mean, obviously, whatever you wanna do but do you really wanna be with a bitch that doesn't hang out with Alex?"

"Dustin's not a bitch. He's actually really nice" I said 

"Well Alex said he is and anyways, why would we listen to you, Nevaeh? You said that none of them would ever like me. Like, you're obviously just jealous I have an option between 2 of the hottest boys in school" Maya said rolling her eyes

"First of all that's not what I said. I said you don't know people's true intentions and they could be playing a prank on you. Second of all.." I sarted before I was interrupted by the teacher.

"Quiet, please! Settle down" she started and the classroom fell silent, "Young sir in the care bare sweatshirt"

"Huh?" Maya said as I silently giggled to myself. Personally if that happened to me, I would never have that.

"She's a girl"

"Care to share something you did over summer? Come up to the front" she said as Maya got up and stood at the front.

"I guess the most memorable thing I did over summer was I watched Ace Ventura: Pet Detective like six times..." I can't lie I zoned out whilst Maya was speaking until she started acting out a scene. I looked around the classroom and locked eyes with Dustin who was next to me and he started laughing.

"What is she doing?" Dustin said still laughing. I tried my hardest not to laugh out of pity, as I knew everyone was laughing at her and not with her. I felt bad but at the same time she kinda brought it upon herself.

Soon, we were put into groups, and I was with Maya and Anna but we weren't even doing the work as they were too busy making a love note to send to Brandt so I turned around and started a conversation with Dustin. We were talking until the end of the lesson until the bell rang dismissing us. 

------ TIME SKIP ------

I was with Maya and Anna when Brandt and Dustin ran up to us shouting.

"Brandt says yes! Brandt says yes!"

"I do not say yes! Dustin says  yes!"

"Omg wait! Dustin that's like so presumptious of you to think that she was asking you. She asked him." Anna said as Maya reapplied her lipgloss.

"You guys, stop. This is like so mean, just tell her" some pick me looking and sounding girl said.

"U-G-I-S BIYATCH"

"UGIS"

"UGIS"

As soon as I heard that my heart dropped for Maya, as my brother had told me about the term 'UGIS'. 

"Wait what?" Maya said laughing not understanding what the term meant

"Oh honey, you don't know it means 'Ugliest Girl In School" she said as I saw Maya's heart shatter. I felt so bad but I had tried to warn her but she accused me of being jealous.

"They're so mean, and they said they don't know why you're wearing a bra Anna cuz there's nothing to go in it. And they said Nevaeh that you're too good to be hanging out with them." she said stupidly not knowing how much it hurt the other 2 hearing that.

"No it's cool, like it's really funny. Thanks for telling me Becca" she said as her eyes watered

"You're welcome, and Nevaeh, Heather's asking whether you're still coming to lunch" 

"Ermm yeah sure" I said before turning to Maya giving her a supportive smile, "Hate to say I told you so but... i told you so"

"Let's go Nevaeh" Becca said before linking arms with me and leading me to the direction of the lunch hall.
