"Hey, look at this old tent- bro there's stuff inside!" The other two teens popped their heads in and got a bit of a chill down their spine. There was a lot of stuff in the old tent like whoever was camping didn't think they were leaving it for the last time when they left. Old food, clothes, a hiking pack, even what seemed to be a sleeping bag.

"Hey an old video camera! Let's take it home and charge it, maybe something cools on it."

The black TV crackled to life. A girl in hiking clothes stood in front of a forest background with a smile. She was a little out of breath and maybe excited.

"Log 1 of my documentary! My boyfriend dropped me at the entrance and I had to hike up all the way here alone but I fucking found it! The ruins!" The camera was spun around and what seemed to be an old town. Overgrown houses and businesses covered in vines, trees, and flowers. It was beautiful, untouched by humans for who knows how long. When the camera flipped back to the girl she was still smiling "Im going to try to stay here for the whole week so I can get enough footage. I'll talk but ill probably mostly just take notes and voice over my footage. I need a B to pass this class so I'm putting my whole into this."

The screen went black and the three teens quickly moved to get to the next part to play, now they were curious.

β™‘β™‘β™‘

"Log 2, even though it's only been like thirty minutes! Guess I should make an introduction huh, man I'm dumb." She moved quickly to stand in front of the town's old rotting welcome sign before clearing her throat "Hello im F/n L/n and for my documentary project I'm here in a town lost to time Oakenside. It's said an evil spirit moved into this town after an innocent woman was burned for witchcraft and drove all its residents out as punishment. Those who didn't leave were never seen again its claimed by those who did. Im staying for the week to show what this ghost town has become centuries after its people abandoned it in the middle of  a wicked storm."

She walked a little to the side and the old campsite they found came into view but it was clearly very new here. She just put it up. "Here's my home for the next week. It's nothing fancy, neither is my camp food, and the lake a little that way is all I got for water but I think it'll be worth it once I edit and turn this into Mr. Hardass. Oop- Remember to edit that out future Y/n!"

β™‘β™‘β™‘

"Next part. Come on."

β™‘β™‘β™‘

"Log 3. Im whispering because its night time and listen- listen." She got quiet and in the distance, coyotes could be heard howling. She let out a little chuckle and if it wasn't dark in the tent you could probably see stars in her eyes "I've never heard that before. There are other animals around here too but not many are pack hunters like coyotes."

β™‘β™‘β™‘

"Log 4, first day in Oakenside and I'm just walking the cobble streets. So far I've seen a butcher shop, tailor, bookshop-"

The tape froze on her smiling face for all of three seconds then it turned to static, when her face returned it was now night and she wasn't in her tent, it looked like maybe she was in one of the run-down houses if the kids had to guess

"I went got water early and- and look!" She turned the pot sideways and clear clean water came pouring out and onto the ground "Blood! Its blood! How!?"

β™‘β™‘β™‘

"What the hell?"

"Play the next part man."

β™‘β™‘β™‘

"Log, uh- uh, 7. Log 7- Shit maybe 8- I don't know! Just things have gotten... weird since the last time I updated you guys about those weird screams in the night. I saw a shadow on the wall of my tent. It looked like a deer maybe- I mean it had antlers but it was- it was standing up. Like a human. When the coast was clear I decided to book it for the first house I could. At least I have walls and a locked door. Fuck this project I'm calling my boyfriend tomorrow. Im going home."

β™‘β™‘β™‘

"Wait where are parts 5 and 6, maybe 7? What screams?

"It didn't skip parts, that's all there is. Must be a weird camera glitch. I'll put the next part on."

β™‘β™‘β™‘

"So Log 8. My phone has no signal and my emergency radio is just dead I guess! It won't even turn the fuck on!"

She chucked the radio off-screen in frustration and it sounded like it hit something and broke as she groaned. She didn't look ok. She looked...sick. Her face was sunken, the color draining, eyes empty and puffy. It was creepy to know she got that bad in only a few days. "I have 2 and a half days left before he comes to pick me up like we originally planned and I don't know if I like that very much. The disembodied screams and blood water are one thing but-" She stopped and looked off to the side, like she heard something the camera didn't before the camera cut off and then right back on

"Log 9. It's night now, I got my water, some dinner, and my portable charger from my tent but I left the rest of the stuff, I don't need it and I'm hoping whatever that deer thing is will see my shit and think I'm still in my tent." She took a bite of a granola bar and then sighed "Im probably being paranoid-" She let out a sad chuckle "Being out in the middle of the woods alone will surely do that to you."

β™‘β™‘β™‘

The teens looked at each other in silence before they pushed play again

β™‘β™‘β™‘

"Listen."  She whispered as she held the camera a little to the side, fear clear all over her face but it was pure silence for the whole few seconds she held the camera like that. When it came back to her face she was crying "I don't know how it knows my name but it's calling me- I don't know what it wants and I don't wanna find out."

The camera cut off and came right back, it was now day now yet the girl was still in the same position, even crying once more "It wants me to come with it but I won't. I can't." The camera moved and through the window, you could see deer antlers from behind a bush in the distance. She put herself back in the frame "I wanna live." She just kept repeating that until the camera cut off

β™‘β™‘β™‘

"There is only one more part...Do we watch it?"

They all sat in silence until one teen pushed the button and they all looked at the tv once more

β™‘β™‘β™‘

The camera was on the ground on its side in the tent where they found it, recording nothing but the tent wall. After a moment the scream of a woman where heard in the distance. She was begging and pleading for whatever was the problem to leave her be, that she didn't want to die, to put her down, please don't take her! But it seemed to be no use because shadows crossed the tent. What seemed to be a man with antlers was carrying a woman over his shoulders. She was moving all about and hitting the things back but it didn't seem to matter. "Hush up mortal one, I only wish for company. I have no reason to harm you."

The voice was so strange. Like it was coming from all over and not just one man. Like it was the wind itself. Yet for being the wind it seemed to shaking the earth itself yet the camera didn't shake. This voice was ancient and powerful. The video went on for hours but nothing more happened other than the natural sounds of the forest returning. It just ran until the batter died.

β™‘β™‘β™‘

The tape came out of the player and hit the floor making the teens jump. They all looked at it, none moving until the one in the middle got up and grabbed a bat. Smashing the tape to pieces before looking at the others "We should go to church."

"And sage this whole fucking room."
