Chapter 10
Words: 1364
Deuce ran at the monster and fired a spell at it. The spell shot off the thing making the navy haired boy stop in his tracks. His eyes were slightly wide in shock, making him not notice the creature was coming towards him.
"Begone! Begone! Begooone!" The ink bottle for head slammed his fist against Deuce's gut, making him slam into the wall of the deserted mine.
"Aw, crap! He's got Loosey-Deucey on the ropes! Not on my watch! Heeyah!" Ace as the idiot he is, let go of your hand aswell and went towards the creature.
He fired off a spell aswell but was met with the same fate as his fellow freshman.
"Myaaah! Stay away from me!" Grim screamed out as the monster now turned towards you, Grim and Yuu. Grim of course started spewing fire at the big thing coming towards you.
This pissed the thing off even more, as it growled in anger. "Grrraaawrrrr!"
"It's like nothin's even hurtin' it!"
The light from Grim's fire caused a sparkle in the distance which made Yuu perk up.
"Did you just see that sparkle?!" He yelled out as he tried to look past the ink creature.
"Yes I did. I think it might be the magestone I saw earlier." You nodded to what Yuu said.
Ace groaned as he slowly tried to stand up. "Behind the monster! There's something sparking in the mineshaft!"
"Yeah! That might actually be the magestone Y/n has mentioned!" Deuce yelled as he finally got up aswell.
"GWAAAAAAAAH! Nooo giive yooouuu stoooooooone!" The creature that seemed to notice your line of vision turned extremely aggresive once again. The ripped a wooden plank off of the mine walls and started swinging it around at you all.
"Guys, we need to book it, and fast! That thing's gonna pound us into tuna paste!" Grim started screeching at the top of his lungs while clinging onto your face.
"Then let's all run for it!" Yuu screamed at the monster almost hitting his head.
You ripped Grim off of your face and threw him at Yuu who luckily caught him. Then you ran up to Ace and Deuce and pulled them up. Ace was on your left side, and Deuce on your right as you started running with them.
"GRRRAAAWRRR!" The thing tried chasing after you, but you all were conveniently faster then it was.
You were all speeding through the halls of the mines, cutting sharp corners here and there before you all finally made it out of the underground maze.
"This should be far enough, I think?" Grim huffed out even though he wasn't even the one running.
You, together with the two freshmans plopped on the ground. You were breathing a lot heavier then they were, since you were seriously almost carrying them the entire way.
"Owww... What was that thing? No one said there'd be anything like that!" Ace yelled in frustration.
"That was no normal ghost, that's for sure." Deuce muttered. The cyan eyed boy was softly patting your back to calm you down a bit.
"Let's just give up and go home. I'll happily take the expulsion if it means never having to fight that thing again." Ace said as he stood up and patted his uniform down.
Deuce stopped patting your back and glared at Ace. "What?! Nuh-uh, not happenin'! I'd rather die than get expelled from Night Raven! How can you five up when the stone is right there?"
"Pfft. Big talk for someone who's nto even half the mage I am. You want that stone so bad, go get it yourself. I'm out."
"Oh YEAH?! Fine, go back to your coop, you big chicken." Deuce bawled one of his fists and gripped it in front of his chest.
Your eyes widened slightly at Deuce loosing his cool. He seemed so calm before.
"Whaaaaat?! Who're you callin' chicken, huh?!" Ace raised a cocky eyebrow. You just watched it happen. You were honestly so done for the day.
Grim -who was also staring at Deuce in shock- spoke before the cyan eyed boy could respond to Ace. "Whoa, Deuce... Is it just me, or did you, like, turn into a totally different person just now?"
You nodded at what Grim said, and turned your gaze towards the boy next to you who started stuttering at the comment. "Huh?!" He coughed a bit before continuing. "Sorry... Lost my cool for a second there."
"Can't you do something with you magic?" Yuu asked the two students who finally stopped glaring at eachother.
Deuce was first to respond to the question. "The headmage said it himself- magic has limits. If you can't strongly visualize your magic, it isn't going to happen. Using magic at a greater scale, or using different types of magic - those things require training."
"Yeah, that's why magic academies exist. It takes a lot of training before you can snap your fingers and turn your thoughts into magic. And the more flushterd you are, the more likely you are to make a mistake." Ace actually sounded smart for once.
"Oh, I'd assumed spellcasting just came naturally." Yuu tilted his head slightly to side.
"I would guess that it'd take some training, using a vision also requirs a certain level of training." You agreed while standing up.
Ace nodded. "Yeah like Y/n said, although if the magic's your specialty, you can use it more intuitively."
"Anyway, we need to find some way to defeat that creature and get the magestone." Deuce went back to the origional topic at hand.
Ace scoffed with a smirk plastered on his face. "Yeaaaah. Just like the time with the chandelier, right? You "found some way" and now here we are. We just fought that thing and it creamed us. So what exactly is your plan here, genius? Because I sure don't trust you to improvise!"
"What?! You're the one who-" The two went back to bickering.
Grim sighed and stood between you and Yuu. "Aaand they're at it again."
"Would the two of you knock it off already?!" Yuu suddenly yelled out. Your ears fell back for a moment, before they went back up again.
Ace and Deuce both gasped at the boys sudden loudness. "Whoa, that was loud. Where'd that come from?" Grim asked Yuu with wide eyes.
Yuu was glaring down at the freshman duo harshly, and you just shook your head in dissappointment at the two.
"You said it yourself - we can't hurt that thing." Yuu ignored there big eyes staring at him.
"My- myah..."
"Urk... But... But what are we going to do, then?!" Deuce eyes were swirling with a mix of determination and fear.
"What if we came up with a proper plan first? Like Y/n said earlier in the cave, we don't know it's weakness or anything, so we need to come up with a plan."
Your tail started wagging slightly at the credits you were given. Ever since you were here your advice had just been getting ignored, and look where it got you. You were just happy someone wasn't ignoring you.
Ace didn't seem too fond of the idea tho. He had a mocking smile on his face, and his tone was kind of mocking too. "A proper plan? Like some kinda buddy move? Is that a joke? You and Y/n always say the lamest things with the straightest face, Niho."
"Agreed. No way could I work together with him." Deuce grumbled at the idea.
"Yeah, but... Gettin' expelled on the first day... That's pretty lame too. Maybe even lamer." Grim -without knowing it himself- actually said something quite convincing.
Ace reeled back a bit at the comment, scratching the back of his neck. "W- well..."
Deuce just stayed quite. Although he did look like he was silently agreeing.
"Yeah, there's nothing cool about that!" Yuu spoke up again.
Ace sighed loudly. "Gah... Fine. Let's just get this over with, then. All right then. What's the plan?"
This time it was your turn to talk again. "I do have one idea."
"Y/n... Is this plan of yours really gonna work? I'm sca- I mean, I'm a little...uh, hungry." Grim fumbled over his words, trying to hide the tremble in his small paws.
Yuu answered before you could with a bright smile on his face. "Don't worry! I believe this plan could really work!"
Deuce was just as full of belief that it'd work as Yuu, and raised a determined fist. "It really could. Let's go, Y/n, Yuu!"
