First up is a run through of me creating a profile picture. Just enjoy the chaotic mess of the video first and then down below I'll explain further. Also about half the video is actual tutorial, the second half is experimentation. When creating a 'theme' I often create either a full creation first and then adjust the character or I'll create a base and add characters later.

Okay so allow me to explain the chaos... (I am new to making videos and I don't know how to add text that changes across the video, yet. I promise they'll get better).

Created using Canva (most tutorials will be using Canva as it's what I use primarily. I also use Pixlr but a lot less and I'm still fairly new to that program- side note: Pixlr has a FREE background remover. Repeat a FREE background remover. I'm not sponsored by them or anything, I just want to let everyone know because I have searched for so long to find a free to use background remover. They are always a premium feature ).

1. So firstly I use the Instagram Post sizing (1080x1080). Profile picture files are often smaller than this and some websites may require a smaller file but I like this larger canvas in case I ever need to post my profile picture onto Instagram, or if someone else ever does, it won't be pixelated. It's totally up to you though. As long as the canvas is square.

2. The next thing I did (which is where the video starts) is put down two frames. In Canva frames are shapes that you use to crop an image into a certain shape. As most sites, Wattpad included, use circle profile pictures, I make a circle that is as big as possible with all the circle showing as well as a smaller one on top. The large circle will be the back ground for the frame and the smaller circle is the background for the focal character. If you are using a JPG that has your character on it then you can move on from here. However, if you want to use a PNG that has a transparent background, like in this creation, you want to duplicate the smaller circle and place the duplicate directly on top. This will be where you place the character (in this case it is Kokichi Oma from Danganronpa V3).

3. Then I start to place the features. So I start with the character and then think of a background that matches the character. I got the background from Canva because they have free stock images which means I don't steal someone's work. Generally I try to either use stock images or official art to avoid stealing fanart. It's not essential but I know that it's a big concern for many to have their work stolen and used without permission, so it's something to be mindful of.

4. Next I start working on the frame. To get the checkerboard to be light I changed the brightness and also lowered the opacity. This meant I had to place a white circle behind it so it would stay light when I put the darker background around the piece. You don't always need a background outside the circle, but it can be helpful in case a website actually has a square for their profile pictures.

5. At 0:15 you will notice that instead of the profile picture I have a background from Danganronpa. My idea was to crop this and use part of it as the background for the piece, but I couldn't find a section I liked so it got ditched for the pink pixels. You will likely have times when you try something that doesn't work (especially if you hardly plan your work like me), and this is okay. Just keep at it and you'll get something cool!

6. Again, at 0:24 I tried to add in an overlay of light but I felt it didn't add to the piece and make the background weaker so I ditched it.

7. From 0:30 onwards is me experimenting with various characters. At first I tried more Kokichi poses as I knew the palette would match, but then I went crazy with any character PNG I could find. When adapting a theme to a character you may have to adjust colours, particularly if you centred the colours around the character in the original piece.

That's about it from me! Are there any questions?
