Gokce Sultan, a beautiful 9 year old, brushed through her soft, brown hair. She gazed into the mirror, tying her locks into a quick plait. Picking up her white scarf, she placed it over her head, and tied it beneath her neck. A knock was heard on her door. 'May I come in, Gokce Sultan?' 'Come in, my lovely nurse.' Gokce watched as Zehra Hatun, her nurse for some time, walked in. She had a loving smile on her face, and she held some clothes. They were the ones she wore from last week, so Gokce took them from Zehra's hands, and placed them in her wardrobe.

Shouts were heard from other floors, and Zehra's eyes widened. She quickly shut the door, before parading the small sultana to her chamber room. Pulling a sword from God knows where, she handed a small dagger to Gokce. 'Gokce Sultan, keep ahold of this, and never let it go. We are under attack. You must remember all you learnt from your fighting lessons.' Gokce nodded quickly, gripping her dagger. That was going to leave a mark.

A few minutes went by, and the shouts and swords clanging grew closer to Gokce's room. She was frightened, after all, she was just a child. She leaned into Zehra Hatun's frail figure. 'Nurse, I'm scared. I want Ana.' 'Don't worry, Gokce Sultan, your Ana and Baba will be okay. The Sultan will look after them.' The door, as if by magic, flung open, to reveal Ayse Sultan. Gokce squealed, running towards her mother. Zehra tried to grab her. But something was wrong....very wrong.

'Ana!' Ayse tried to speak, but instead, fell onto the small girl. Gokce peered around to see three arrows lodged deep into her back. She gasped, before looking at her mother's rapidly paling face. 'Ana! AΓ§ gozlerini! Please! Ana!' Ayse breathed out, and that was that. She slowly closed her eyes with a smile, but Gokce sobbed continuously. Zehra Hatun looked in horror at her mistress dead in the hands of her daughter. She shook her head, unable to process what was happening.  Gokce looked up to see a Mongol soldier standing outside her room. He was grinning mischievously at the females, before pulling up his sword to slash down Zehra. She fell onto Gokce's bed, and Gokce couldn't help but weep into her mother's cold hands. The Mongol soldier turned back to her, raising his sword again. She screamed, closing her eyes tight, but the sword never came. Gokce opened her eyes to see a man, in his mid-fifties, stabbing the Mongol Noker straight through his heart.

Gokce didn't recognise this man, but a few of his own soldiers crowded into the room. The man walked over to her, with a reassuring smile. 'Gokce Sultan, your Ana and Baba are gone, however, you still are here. It's not safe fo you in the Saray anymore. Your uncle, the Sultan, wants us to take you in, and look after you. Will you come with us?' He looked at her, waiting for an answer. Gokce looked around at the Alps, and then at her dead mother, her eyes lingering on the arrows. Tears fell from her eyes as she looked at Zehra Hatun.

'Zehra....' The man's attention went to the unconscious woman on the bed. He signed for one of his men to go check her pulse. 'Coksukur, Bey'im. The hatun is alive. Lakin, she has a very low pulse. As well as being an old woman, it's very dangerous.' 'All the doctors were killed in the Saray Baskin. We will have to take both of them to the tribe. Haydi!'

A woman walked in, donned in female armour. The man stood and went to her. 'Ilbilge Hatun, take the woman and Gokce Sultan to the tribe. Get Artuk Bey to heal the woman's wound, and when I come back, we will pray the funeral prayer of the martyred.' 'Eyvallah, Bey'im.' Ilbilge Hatun came to Gokce, crouching beside her. She spoke in a soft voice. 'Gokce Sultan. Come on, leave your Ana. We will go to our tribe. It's not safe here anymore.' As she was talking, Ilbilge unlatched Gokce's fingers from where she held onto her mother. The Bey gestured for his alps to take the dead body and Zehra Hatun.

Gokce's eyes swelled once more with tears, after seeing the sight. Ilbilge Hatun helped her to stand up, and they exited her room. Everywhere, were dead bodies. Bodies of palace soldiers, bodies of nokers, bodies of maids, bodies of aghas. Gokce closed her eyes, and walked on as the woman lead her.

She wanted to forget it all. She wanted to bring back her parents.

That was the first chapter. How was it? I know it was very short, but, it was a small paragraph to show the meeting of Gokce Sultan and Ertugrul Bey. The reason for him being at the palace will be explained later. Lygsm β™₯️ Vote and Comment!
