❝ CAMPING TRIP ❞
Another bright and sunny late summer day had just begun, filling the forest with rays of light through the thin branches and thick bundles of leaves. The smell of summer heat and fresh grass, as well as the sound of singing birds and a gentle breeze passing through the leaves filled the air.
Gummy, Kala, Harry and (Y/n) were heading up the steady hill that ran through the forest, on their way to spending the night surrounded by fresh grass and peaceful trees.
Kala lead the group across the leaning area of land, passion and excitement in her eyes and expression.
"Aaahh... nature! This is gonna be amazing!"
"I'm sure it will be, once I get a chance to actually see it..." Gummy complained, hunched over and struggling to climb the hill with a large, heavy backpack pressed against his back with its weight.
"Yeah, well, nature's fine and dandy, but I've always kind of liked my own bed, and my own sheets, and my own pillow, and my own..." Harry rambled on, steadily pacing up the hill behind Gummy.
(Y/n) rolled her (e/c) eyes behind Harry. "We get it, you like staying home... but I think this will be a great experience for all of us!" She tried to add positivity to her friends' complaints.
The collection of trees that created the forest began to decrease as the four friends reached the open field that they were heading towards.
Kala stopped as the open land came into her view. She plopped her backpack onto the grass, turning to face her friends.
"OK troop, this looks like a perfect spot."
Gummy, Harry and (Y/n) eventually caught up to Kala at the open land on the top of the hill, jaws dropping as the landscape came into view.
They were greeted with a circle of tall pine trees surrounding the unfolded landscape, with large, rocky mountains in the far distance. Fluffy white clouds surrounded the bright blue sky, with a variety of small birds flying through.
Gummy gasped, plopping his backpack onto the ground while admiring the view. "Wow! This really is fantastic!"
Harry leant against his backpack, taking in the atmosphere. "Except I think somebody forgot to install the plumbing, and electricity and WiFi and-"
Kala's expression became frustrated with Harry's constant complaining. "Enough with the belly aching!" She snapped, cutting his long string of complaints.
"How about we get our tents set up?" (Y/n) tried to lighten the mood.
Kala groaned, taking the tents from the backpack Gummy struggled to lift up the hill. "I'll set up the girl's one."
She pulled a rolled up piece of bright yellow material with a long stick. She tossed another pink tent towards Gummy and Harry, with it landing just by their feet.
"Gummy and Harry, do you need help with yours?" (Y/n) asked, while watching her sister aggressively assembling their tent.
Gummy and Harry began to smile. "Us? Needing help setting up a tent!?" They asked rhetorically, glancing towards each other and chuckling.
(Y/n) giggled, rolling her eyes and turning her attention back to her sister.
~
After successfully assembling their tent, Kala and (Y/n) watched Gummy and Harry with sighs and shaking heads.
Gummy struggled on the left side of the tent, failing to construct it in the correct way. Harry tugged onto the pole attached to the right side.
Gummy jerked the end of the pole attached to the material a little too forcefully, as the sound of a tear flew through the breeze. Gummy gazed down at the hole in the tent in shock and disappointment.
Meanwhile, Harry also tugged the right pole just a little too hard, sending it pinging into his face. He flapped his arms as he fell to the ground with a thud.
(Y/n) giggled, watching her friend and crush failing at what she thought to be a simple task.
Gummy wandered towards Harry as he climbed back onto his feet.
"You haven't got a clue how to set up a tent, do you?" They asked each other in unison.
"OK, maybe we've never actually out-and-out hundred percent done it before, but hey, how hard can it be?" Gummy tried to reassure his friend, but also noticed (Y/n) watching their failure from the distant side of the field.
~
(Y/n) and Kala couldn't watch for any longer, as Gummy and Harry had gotten themselves into a very interesting situation regarding assembling their tent.
"Are you sure you guys don't want a hand with that?" (Y/n) asked, giggling.
"Yes please..." Gummy and Harry groaned from the other edge of the field.
Gummy was tangled within the material with Harry attempting to correctly position the poles to hold up said material. It was a little difficult with Gummy rolled up inside.
After untangling Gummy from the inside, the sisters managed to work together to assemble the tent in a matter of minutes. Gummy watched in amazement.
"I told Gummy that was the way to do it! Yeah, I know a thing or two about survival in the woods..." Harry said, as if he was trying to clear up his embarrassment of not being able to put up a tent.
The girls rolled their eyes and laughed. Kala took out her whistle to alert the group of their next tasks.
The sound of the whistle rang between the trees. "Alright, Harry, you roll out the sleeping bags, Gummy, you fish for supper, and (Y/n) can get the campfire started."
(Y/n) rolled her eyes and groaned at what a lame job she'd been given as the others got to work.
Kala fetched some logs and sticks from deep within the forest while (Y/n) waited patiently sat on the thin, green grass. She couldn't help but laugh as she saw Harry being attacked by mosquitos in the distance as he tried to pull the sleeping bags from his backpack.
Kala plopped the pile of wood in front of her sister, picking up two small sticks to give her a tutorial.
"All you need to do, (Y/n), is rub two sticks together!" She said, handing the sticks to her sister.
(Y/n) sighed. "Yeah, OK I got it..."
She cheekily smirked as Kala left to help Harry with the mosquito situation, pulling out a box of matches.
"I get that it only works if one of the two sticks is a match..." She lit the match, causing the flames to pass onto the wood below - a roaring fire began.
She proudly stood by the campfire, waiting for her sister to return and congratulate her.
~
Meanwhile, Gummy was stood by the peaceful, clear blue river that ran behind the circle of trees, just before the rocks began to rise to become mountains.
He waited patiently, a fishing rod in his hands and a smile on his face.
He pulled the rod back up as he felt a tug on the other end.
No such luck.
Gummy tossed the bait back towards the water, but instead of splashing into it, the bait hooked onto a log that was floating past at quite a pace.
Gummy's expression changed to a frown as the log began to tug him from his position beside the water.
As the log's pace seemed to increase, Gummy found himself being pulled through the water, with no clue how to stop.
He managed to swim closer towards the log, eventually climbing onto it so he wouldn't be washed away by the current.
Gummy balanced himself on top of the log, resting himself across the piece of wood and taking in the landscape that passed by, completely relaxed.
"Nice trees... nice shoreline...
...nice waterfall..."
Gummy then realised what he stated in his last observation, peeking down towards his feet to see the water gushing down the side of a very tall cliff in the not too far distance.
"NICE WATERFALL!?"
He shot up from his relaxed stance, attempting to run across the log, except it was just being spun around under his feet.
As he ran out of time to save himself from crashing down the side of the cliff, Gummy plopped himself on his front against the log, using his hands to try and push it across the water like oars.
"You can do it! You can do it...
...who am I kidding, I can't do it..."
He took his hands from the warm water, resting his arms against the log and his head in his hands, ready to accept his fate.
Luckily, the fishing rod was still attached to the long tube of wood. A large orange fish managed to grab the handle that was flowing through the water. As the fish swam in the opposite direction, its weight managed to pull the log along with it. Gummy smiled in surprise, relief and gratitude.
Gummy managed to slide off of the wooden log as the water became more shallow. He crawled back towards the shoreline, panting, as well as trying to recover from the events of the last few minutes.
He managed to find his feet and rescue his fishing rod from the water. Now was his chance to perform the task he was sent to do.
Gummy sent the bait attached to his fishing rod flying through the air, landing into the crystal clear water with a plop.
After only a few seconds, Gummy felt a tug on the other end. He smiled with pride, pulling the rod back towards him.
His proud smile dropped into a disappointed frown as he saw what hung on the end of the rod.
A small fish flipped and flopped its tail about while it clung onto the bait with all its might. Gummy stared in disappointment at the sad little fish, realising this would never feed all three of his friends - plus himself.
With that thought, he tossed the fish back into the clear blue river water with a plop, innocently waving it goodbye and heading back towards the campsite.
~
Darkness had fell upon the field and forest that surrounded it, the bright white moon gazing down from high in the sky.
Harry, Kala and (Y/n) sat patiently around the warm, burning campfire, still waiting for Gummy to return from his long fishing trip.
(Y/n) had begun to grow slightly worried, but Kala and Harry had told her he would be back soon.
She hoped so.
After a few more minutes of waiting, Gummy came from behind the bushes with a small pot of some sort of food. (Y/n) smiled, relieved that her crush had returned safely.
He proudly walked up to the group, presenting the pot he had in his hands. He opened the lid to reveal a mixture of fruits, berries and other delicious vegetation he had collected from the forest.
"Tonight's dinner - vegetarian delight!"
(Y/n) giggled. "I guess the fishing trip didn't go too well then?"
Gummy chuckled nervously. "Not really..."
He took a seat beside (Y/n) on the grassy ground, enjoying their healthy forest meal. (Y/n) gently rested her head onto his shoulder, earning a warm smile from Gummy as he did the same in return.
~
"So, should we roast marshmallows while telling scary stories!" Gummy asked excitedly.
"Ever since we arrived in these woods my life has been a scary story!" Harry cried.
Suddenly, the sound of a cold night time breeze flew through the trees, sending shivers down Harry's spine as it swirled through the leaves. He began to tremble, placing a hand to his chest, taking deep breaths.
"Stay calm, Harry..." he whispered to himself.
Meanwhile, Gummy had put together a long stick of squishy marshmallows, preparing the roast them against the campfire's flames.
(Y/n) watched his attempt with interest, earning her a warm smile from Gummy.
However, he ended up becoming too distracted with (Y/n)'s cuteness. His marshmallows began to burn just a little too much. The smell of burning sugar began to fill the air, triggering Gummy's attention.
He gasped, pulling the sweets away from the roaring fire. He aggressively shook the stick, blowing the lumps of squashy sugar that were producing the burning smell. (Y/n) giggled.
"Uh... anybody like their marshmallows well done?" Gummy said nervously.
On the other side of the campfire, Harry was still jumping and trembling in response to every little sound that ran through the woods.
"I wanna go home..." his voice quivered as he pulled his knees up to his chest and his hands up to his ears to block the terrifying sounds.
Kala couldn't take it anymore. "Oh stop being such a scaredey-cat, Harry! We need a vacation AND WE'RE STAYING!" She shouted out of pure annoyance and frustration.
Harry angrily crossed his arms and stood up. "Then I'm going to bed!" He shouted, pointing at and heading towards his tent. Kala rolled her eyes and groaned.
(Y/n) chuckled, almost entertained by Harry's fear over such ridiculous and silly little things.
Her mouth then let out a small yawn, and she realised it was probably time for her to head for bed too.
~
(Y/n) was snuggled up within her warm and cozy sleeping bag, her eyes barely being able to remain open and tiredness washed over her.
She was about ready to head off to dreamland, when her sister began to catch her attention.
"Hey... (Y/n)..." She whispered.
(Y/n) groaned, rolling her body over to face her sister, who was sat up beside her on top of her sleeping bag.
"What?" (Y/n) groaned sleepily.
"Do you like Gummy?"
The question hit (Y/n) like a stone against a riverbed. It was such a serious question, yet asked so suddenly.
"Y-yeah..."
"You know, as in, 'like like' him?"
(Y/n) groaned. Why was Kala suddenly so interested.
"You can't deny it, sis. It's obvious. You blush literally every time someone mentions him or whenever he's around. I've heard how you talk to him, and how he talks to you..."
"OK fine..."
Kala waited for the rest of the answer that she knew was inevitable.
"Yes, I do..."
Kala smiled. "You need to tell him..."
(Y/n) sighed, rolling back over. "I know, but I always get to nervous..."
Kala plopped herself onto her back against her sleeping bag.
"Just go for it! What's the worst that can happen?"
"He doesn't like me back." (Y/n) simply replied.
"Of course he will! I've seen how he acts around you, how he talks to you... it's obvious he likes you back!"
"He likes you back..."
The thought flew around (Y/n)'s thoughts like a bee buzzing around a hive. She'd have to tell him some time, and her sister's observations gave her more hope.
~
Meanwhile, Gummy was curled within his sleeping bag inside the other tent, captivated by deep sleep.
Harry was gently slid into his sleeping bag beside him and closest to the exit that lead to the outside world he feared.
An extra blanket covered the two friends to provide them with extra heat, as the shelter from the tent and night time atmosphere had brought colder breezes.
Gummy began to snore, causing Harry to groan that something else had entered the situation that would keep him awake.
Gummy then tugged the extra blanket, pulling it over to only cover his body. Harry turned his head to shift his frustrated attention to Gummy.
He aggressively grasped and pulled the blanket towards himself to protect him from the freezing midnight breezes.
The material slid from Gummy's grasp, neatly landing onto Harry's anxious posture.
He relaxed his body, closing his eyes and finally trying to enter dreamland.
However, within a few seconds, Harry felt his fun-loving green pal beginning to pat his hand across the floor for the blanket. Once he managed to locate it, Gummy whipped the blanket back off of Harry, causing him to groan and sit up out of frustration.
~
Inside the girl's little yellow tent, (Y/n) was wrapped within her sleeping bag, a warm smile spread across her face as she thought about her sister's reassuring words.
Meanwhile, Kala sat with her butt against her sleeping bag and her arms wrapped around her knees.
She suddenly heard rustling noises coming from the boy's tent. She crawled past her sister, lighting a torch to see through the tent's material.
(Y/n) opened her eyes in response to the sudden light and groaned. "What now, Kala!?"
"Sshh! I think the boys are still awake..." She whispered.
"And?"
"I have a plan..."
~
Back in the boy's bright pink tent, Harry had given up all hope of getting any chance of sleep.
Suddenly, he heard voices coming from the girl's tent beside him.
"These campgrounds used to be way more crowded, bit then there were those rumours of ghost sightings..."
Harry's eyes widened in shock and fear in response to these words, his hands trembling as he began to pat the sleeping figure beside him.
"G-Gummy..?"
His green companion remained in his deep sleep, not even flinching to the touches.
"And they were never seen or heard from again..."
Harry couldn't hide his frustration and fear any longer. He let out a loud, ear-rattling shriek, waking his sleeping friend.
Gummy slowly rose from his position, groaning as he turned his attention towards his terrified companion.
"WHAT!?" He shouted.
Harry climbed onto his feet. "That's it! I've absolutely and positively decided, WE'RE LEAVING!"
Gummy sighed and rolled his bright blue eyes, but then noticed the curtains leading to the field opening.
He chucked and smiled as he saw Kala and (Y/n) pop their heads through the opening, both snickering and giggling.
Harry was experiencing too much fear and anxiety to notice that his other friends were peeping through the tent.
"I wanna go home NOW!" He cried, as the girls returned to their tent in laughter.
Gummy sighed. "Look, I know you haven't been having the greatest time so far, Harry, but on the bright side, at least things can't get any worse..."
~
Meanwhile, Kala was rolling around on the grass and her sleeping bag within the tent, in fits of laughter while her sister watched in almost concern.
"That was a little mean though..."
"NO IT WAS HILARIOUS!"
(Y/n) shrugged, as she heard the sound of raindrops slowly and quietly banging against the top of the tent.
~
Gummy sat with his head in his hands, giving up all hope of reassuring and comforting his petrified pal.
Suddenly, they both began to feel raindrops break through the gaping hole in the top of their tent, and hear the sound of torrential rain and thunder from the outside world.
Harry groaned as a splash of rain plopped onto his head. "You were saying..."
Gummy shrugged.
"I NEED A VACATION FROM MY VACATION!" Harry cried, making Gummy roll his big, blue eyes and giggle.
~
And so, the four friends began their painful journey back down the slope and through the forest towards the street that housed their apartment.
Raindrops slid through the tree's leaves as large and deep puddles began to form within the grass. Thunder shuddered through the clouds as strikes of lightning shocked the four friends as they slowly wandered home.
Harry continued to shudder at almost every sound within the thick forest and the dark, stormy sky.
Gummy and (Y/n) laughed at his silly reactions as Kala groaned and tugged his arm so he would follow the others, rather than quivering behind.
Kala brought Harry closer to the group, trying to reassure her friend.
"Aaahh... nature!"
"Shut up..."
(Y/n) laughed and sighed, resting her head on Gummy's shoulder as she slowly walked beside him. Gummy happily sighed, leaning his head on top of hers.
"So... I was wondering... if you'd wanna stay over at my place tonight?" Gummy simply asked.
(Y/n) blushed,
