part two:
"๐๐๐๐," was all I felt like saying in response to my Dad's question about Lonnie and Makaveli whereabouts. It has been like a day since anybody seen or heard from either of them.
"And, you don't know where they could have gone? Why they left? Nothing?"
"No."
"I don't understand you Jaleel." He said and left the room. I sat there on the couch in my parents' house just staring at the wall. As the oldest, i've always been made responsible for the actions of my brothers. Even the stupidest shit they do comes back to me as if I had some control over either of their crazy asses.
I replayed the whole scene over in my head from yesterday in the middle east. There was something off as fuck about everything. Lonnie being so quiet and calm, Makaveli all up in a nigga's space like he knew that nigga when as far as i know, that nigga Thurgood usually stay off to the side like my pops. Every nigga on the street don't know Thurgood. Thurgood don't fuck with everybody.
My phone dinged in my pocket. It was an alert from my location app letting me know Lonnie turned off his location. Mm Mm. Something aint right. I checked Makaveli's location and his said it was where i was. I looked around the house for his phone. Then remembered he rode with me last night to where them Arab nigga's was at.
Outside, I searched all over the car for a while before i felt it underneath the passenger seat. Shaking my head, I looked through his contacts, but no numbers were saved yet. I went to his text messages and there were like ten conversations.
Alright, don't act surprised. We all know I'm an overprotective brother. Of course I'm looking through his texts. Each and every one. There was one between him and some girl named Lou. One i assumed was Lonnie. The rest were irrelevant family and then there were two where no names were mentioned. Those two had the most messages in their threads though.
I turned on the car and turned the air on. It's still hot as hell and Summer is damn near over. I opened the first thread that started the day he got out. Maki sent the first message which was basically, "yo this my new number" and the person responded with a thumbs up. That shit suspicious as fuck.
I scrolled through seeing only short messages like that. Most of 'em was meet me here and there. I went to his call log and he'd never called or received any calls from this number. Of fucking course shit was ringing in my ears because i knew some shit was up. That nigga got out three years early. Im no giving him the benefit of a doubt.
I read the other messages and the last one was last night.

I gasped reading the name. I needed to talk to Lonnie ASAP, i called over and over from my own phone then called from Makaveli's phone. I know exactly what's going to happen when Lonnie asks Maki why he's calling him when they're already together. Mak is gonna dig in his pockets realizing he doesnt have his phone. Lonnie is gonna say, "its probably Jah. He called me hella times already." And then it will click to Maki that i have his phone and have gone through it. His ass will call me back.
I waited a few minutes after calling from Maki's phone and was about to call again when Lonnie called back.
"Yo, where you at?"
There was a long silence, but I could hear the car on the road and music playing in the background.
"Hello? Nigga, you hear me." I cussed at them, waiting for them to respond. "Aight then, Makaveli who the fuck is this in yo phone since you wanna act like you aint there? You took a deal?"
"Hell nah I aint take no deal nigga! The fuck you think i am? A snitch?"
"Then what the hell was yall talking about?"
"Nigga, get out my phone."
"Three years is a lot of time to bypass aint it Black?"
There was silence again.
"Oh, so you agree with this nigga?" Makaveli asked Lonnie.
"You was asking mad questions Mak. Its a valid concern."
"Wow, fuck yall." He said lowly.
"That why you tried to set him up, Jah? You think he a snitch?" Lonnie asked me.
Mak smacked his lips, "If i was a snitch, i woulda gave the gun to the feds, idiot."
"Your case wasnt even federal bitch. You got got for selling." I laughed, "Them federal niggas aint checkin for you."
"Your case is federal though, bitch." Makaveli responded, "Trust me when I say them feds beat my ass on many occasion tryna get info on you and pops. I held my motherfucking ground like im supposed to."
"Supposed to? You saying you only did that shit outta obligation?"
"I did that shit outta loyalty to yo ugly ass."
"Man, where the hell yall go? And why?"
"Mind your fucking business. You aint nobody father and im sure you tracking niggas anyway witcho stalker ass."
"It aint stalking. If you had little brothers like the two of yall's crazy asses, you would want eyes on at all times too. Plus, your brother turned off his location."
"Good." He laughed, "Bye."
I called back and they answered immediately. "Who is Lou?" I asked, as soon as they answered.
"You read the messages and couldnt figure that shit out for yourself?"
"Fine then. Who's number is 3134892395?"
"I don't know."
I rolled my eyes and started reading the messaged out loud, "You know I can't see you. It's different out here. I can't stop thinking about you though. Can't we just do it one last time?"
He started whining immediately yelling, "Shut up, Jah." But, i kept going.
"You said that the last time. Actually I said it too the time before that. That's cuz you cant get enough. Nah, baby. You cant enough."
"Jah, stop." Lonnie demanded.
I was laughing and reading at the same time. "Am i the best you ever had? Damn, they ain't ever respond? Sound like a strong no, my nigga."
"Fuck you Jaleel. Im cutting your finger off when i see you."
"My finger, nigga?" I asked Makaveli in disbelief.
"Yeah." He said simply. "Since you like touching my shit, i'll make sure you can't do it again."
It was quiet for only a few seconds. "That ain't no bitch talking like that." I added, seriously as if I wasn't just laughing a half a second ago. "I know niggas. That's a nigga."
"And if it is?" Lonnie asked, daring me to say something else. If it was Maki who said it, i would've kept going. But, i respect Lonnie and his lifestyle. At least he honest with himself and whoever else matters.
"Bring ya' dumb asses back home, now. I swear if yall aint back by sunrise, I'm having everybody on yall ass."
"What the fuck took yall so long?" I yelled as soon as the door opened, but it was only Makaveli and the door shut behind him. His face was all twisted up. He pointed behind him towards the door.
"Who the hell is that?"
"Who is Who?"
"Nigga, what happened to Lonnie? You know what that nigga did to me? He held a gun to my fucking head. And i swear he was going to blow my shit clean off."
I took a deep breath and let it out loudly. "What you do to him?"
"Nothing!"
"You ain't say nothing out'cho neck with that smart ass mouth?"
"No, nigga. It's like he just went crazy."
I scratched the side of my face with the tips of my fingers.
"So what? What's wrong with him? First he breaking rules and shit. The whole crew against him. Like, what happened?"
"Nothing. I'm about to go out though."
"Are you kidding me?" He dropped onto the couch, "Where you going?"
I shrugged, opening up the front door.
"Im coming with you."
"You stank, one."
"Then wait for me. Just gi'me ten minutes."
I started walking through the threshold of the front door and he begged, "Jah, for real. Don't leave." I walked through the door anyway.
I'm pulling up to Sam and them house party and Mak been talking my head off the whole ride here. But, I ain't really heard his voice for real in a long time, so I let him talk. Regardless of wether or not he a snitch, he still my brother. Same for Lonnie tooโ that's why I stay quiet when them nigga's talk on either of them. They're both right and wrong. That's fucking human.
"Who house is this?" Makaveli asked.
"This the air bnb Uncle Cliff and them at."
He nodded and continued the story he was telling me about some old guy he was friends with who got killed by some officers. I remember that on the news. It wasn't told how he told it though. But they always cover shit up when it comes to what happens in them prisons. I ain't know Maki knew him. He always was the type to befriend any type of people.
"That's fucked up. Seem like he was a nice dude."
He just nodded in response.
"Ayo!" Sam yelled from inside the house. That nigga always loud as fuck. I opened the door to see Carti with the mic standing up on a table. Me and Mak looked at each other with the same expression. I shook my head, walking through. It was a lot of family still here from the weekend.
