This chapter took me sooo long to write.

Enjoy!

-I hope you're enjoying the story so far, btw!

"What have you done to him, you psychopath!?"

You sat down, as close to the bars as possible whispering with Eugene, Cassandra, and Andrew - them doing the same this as you. You somehow had this idea, that Varian or one of the automatons (that walked past your cells once in a while) could hear you if you spoke too loud.

You were extremely focused right now. "Okay, so when it's night-"

"It always night," Eugene spoke. He was really grumpy. Not that you blamed him - if your sibling's best friend kidnapper your boyfriend twice, you wouldn't be the happiest person on earth either.

"Thanks for reminding me bro, I appreciate it." You sighed. "So in a couple of hours, when it's supposed to be night, I'll try to use my powers, and break this, eh, window behind me, and run into the night, right?"

Andrew and the others nodded.

"But I don't understand, why can't I just break these bars instead?" You pointed to the bars in front of you, that prevented you from reaching each other. "Then we can all get out and stop Varian together?"

Cassandra shook her head, whispering: "No, that'd be too much of a risk. Then there's too much for you to blow up, or whatever it is you're going to do, and you'll risk to cause way more noise. Besides the more damage you do, the more tired you get right?"

"And it'll be easier to cover up. Rapunzel's cloak is luckily still in your cell, so if you take your bedsheets, and put the cloak over it, then us other three can try and convince the upcoming guards that you're sleeping or something. We'll just have to hope that they won't notice the broken window." Andrew added in a low tone.

You nodded with furrowed brows. This sure was a big responsibility. "And then getting the hell out of here... And then what?" You asked them quietly.

They fell silent for a moment.

"You can't really warn the villagers. Their houses are guarded by moondogs. Like, how the hell did he even befriend those things? And those automatons... Like when did the boy even get the time to build those?"

You shrugged, and you felt your heart drop just thinking about it.

Your eyes winded. "I could run out to the snuggly duckling! And gather as many people as possible to storm the castle, and break you free!"

"That's way too dangerous! You'll never get past the bridge! And have you forgot about the rocks?!" Your brother whisper-yelled, but the person sitting next to him, Cassandra, grabbed the bars of hope.

"That actually not such a bad idea, (Y/n)!"

Eugene snorted. "Cassandra, WHY did you have to be the sperm that won-"

"Hush it Eugene. I get your protective of your sister, but she's our only chance here." Andrew spoke, making your brother close his mouth.

"Okaaay." You spoke, ignoring your brother's death glare. "So I'm gonna get myself out of here, and sneak out of Corona-"

"You can't, the bridge is guarded. Guess we'll just have to come up with another plan." Eugene shrugged.

You rolled your eyes. "Eugene, then I'll fucking swim. I'll find a way somehow. Try to root for me here."

He crossed his arms.

You continued discussing the plan with Cassandra and Andrew. You were going to the snuggly duckling, where you would convince everyone there to bring all of their weapons back to Corona. Then you would all storm the castle, get the others out, and either take a potion to corrode the rocks from Varian or making him breed one. This was your last chance of saving Corona, the villagers, Varian, everyone. That shouldn't be so hard.

When you finished discussing everything, you closed your eyes while laying down on the cell-bed. You would try to get some rest before the final plan. You had to be very focused in just a couple of hours.

Because now, Corona's fate wasn't in Rapunzel's and Varian's hands, like it mostly had been on the trip.

This time it was only in yours.

And with that comforting thought, you fell asleep.

You sighed in pure comfort, as you leaned back against the dry tree. You were wearing a yellow dress, and your (h/c) hair was in a messy bun, surrounded with tiny white petals, that Rapunzel thought would look cute, when she made your hair this morning.

It was a sunny day in Corona, and the sunray warmed up your skin. The sky was perfectly blue, and a bunch of birds were flying across it, singing from the bottom of their heart. It was a perfect day.

And what made it more beautiful, was your best friend sitting beside you, his head in your lap. You ruffled his hair, putting some blades of grass in it, hoping he wasn't looking.

He wasn't. The sky had the boys full attention. He rose his arm, pointing to a cloud. "Look (Y/n). That kinda looks like you."

You followed his gaze, seeing a weirdly formed cloud. Your cheeks reddened. "Varian, that looks like a flower."

"No, not that one. Look a little more to the left."

You did as told. At first, you couldn't figure out what this cloud was shaped like, but then you could see a horn... No two.

A rihno. It looked like a rihno.

Varian chuckled, making his head bump lightly into your thighs.

You took as much grass in your hand as you possibly could, letting go of it all above his head.

"H-hey!" He laughed, sitting up, ruffling his hair black hair.

You laughed as well, trying your best to find a cloud yourself, that looked like something funny, only for you to say it looked like him.

Then you felt his gloved hand tapping your shoulder. You looked at him with warm eyes. He held out a yellow flower for you, that matched your dress perfectly. Your gaze shifted from Varian's flustered face, and to the flower.

You smiled at him warmly, before lifting your hand to take the flower.

The sky suddenly turned grey, and raindrops started falling upon both of you. You looked confused at Varian, only to see him cry his heart out, looking at something on the ground.

You still held the yellow flower in your hand, but your yellow dress had been replaced with some black clothes.

You looked down at the ground to see a gravestone. Automatically, you kneeled down beside the gravestone, putting the yellow flower beside the word "Quirin".

It wasn't rain that ran down your cheeks, as you walked over beside Varian. Without saying a word, you pulled him into a tight hug. He immediately started to cry, even more than before, putting his wet arms around you, burying his face in your shoulder.

"I'm sorry." You whispered, but to your surprise, Varian whispered the exact same words in your ear. But he didn't sound sad.

Confused you pulled away, only to find yourself on a bridge, that hung far up in the air. You looked at Varian to meet his stone-cold eyes with your teary-ones.

He held you by your shoulders, looking at you, mumbling the same sentence as before. "I'm sorry, (Y/n)."

He began stretching his arms, pushing you closer to the edge.

"Varian, what're you-" You spoke with a shaky voice but was interrupted.

"You weren't there for me. Look what I've become. It's your fault. I have to do this."

Before you could say anything more, he pushed you off.  You didn't scream. You just saw his figure getting smaller as you fell down. He smiled, but he had tears in his eyes.

You gasped, sitting up in the bed. Your heartbeat was faster than ever. You confusedly looked around, as if you had completely forgotten that you were locked up in a cell. You aggressively wiped the tears away from your face.

You had just had a nightmare. One of your happiest memories with Varian combined with one of your saddest memories with Varian, together with one of your biggest fears. Damn your head.

You were somehow angry at Varian -  more than you already were. Even when he wasn't near you, he still had this power over you.

You tried to calm yourself down, but your whole body was shaking. You gave up, hoping that you eventually would relax.

You looked around at your friends sleeping figure. Andrew leaned against the wall, snoring loudly, and Cassandra had apparently convinced Eugene to sleep on the floor because she was sleeping in the bed like a princess.

You didn't have a sense of how long you had slept, but you figured it was at least two hours or so. It was still dark outside, but from now on it always will be, so that didn't help much.

God, the thought of never see the sun shining again, was so depressing.

You shivered from the cold breeze that gone through the soon-to-be-exploded window. Your fingers, ears and nose tip was also as cold as ever.

You convinced whether or not to wake the others up when you heard the familiar sound of a door being opened by the end of a hall, followed by some slow footsteps.

You hurried back onto your bed, pretending to be asleep. You would always do this when you wouldn't want to talk to someone, so you were quite skilled.

You breathed heavily, laying in an awkward position, waiting.

The footsteps stopped right in front of your cell, and you heard a sigh. You waited. Then you heard some fumbling with some keys. Your eyes shut open for a millisecond before you forced them close again. You let out a soft snore.

Then you heard your cell door being opened. Your heart started beating faster. What the hell was going on?

"Oh (Y/n)..." You heard a male voice say. As the pro-voice-recognizer you were, you immediately thought it was Xavier. He bent down, lifting your hands. You tried so hard not to make an expression.

Then you heard the keys again, and before you knew it your "limp" hands fell onto your stomach. There were no handcuffs anymore. Should you make a run for it?

Xavier took you up in his arms. Was he going to free you? Had he changed his mind? But what about the others? About your plan?

"I'm so sorry (Y/n). He asked to see you."

No. No, no, no-no. He was planning on bringing you to Varian. What about the others? When they woke up you would be gone, and so would their last chance of saving Corona! This couldn't happen. Not in a million years.

As Xavier lifted you through the hall, thinking you were fast asleep, you acted without thinking. You shut your eyes open, jumping out of Xavier's arms. He didn't even see what was coming before you kicked him where the sun doesn't shine.

He groaned in pain and fell to the floor.

"I'm so sorry, Xavier! I'm so sorry, I..." You stammered, wanting to help him up, but you stopped yourself. This was not the time. He was working for Varian, who had probably heard the loud crash.

You took the keys from his pocket, and hurried down the dungeon-halls once again. You threw the keys inside Eugene and Cassandra's cell. You weren't going to break them out. Not now, when Varian was probably on his way down here. It was best that he thought he still had them as prisoners.

You turned around, running for the opposite door, at the other end of the dungeon. If you remembered correctly, it lead up to somewhere near the throne room. Then you could find Varian's room and hope there would be some kind of potion. Easy peasy, right?

You ran up the stairs, your heart in your neck. You hadn't prepared for this. Was it stupid not to break your friends out? Why the fuck didn't you wake them up?!

You opened a door and found now yourself in the main-hall. You just ran, without knowing where to. You ran around a corner, and right into two large automatons. You stopped in shock a few seconds, and that was enough for the robots to grab both of your arms.

"No! Let me go, you big pieces of shitty metal!" You yelled, struggling. The machines didn't budge one bit.

They lifted you up in the air, your legs hanging loosely, kicking out in each direction. They led you're through the empty and dark halls, and over to two large doors - the ones to the throne room.

They opened the door, and inside you saw him.

Varian.

And as you saw him, sitting on the throne, with his big blue pair of eyes, all the hate you had grown for him the past few hours, just disappeared, and you felt a longing for pulling the boy into a tight hug, telling him that you were here now.

"Var-Varian." You stammered, as your eyes got teary. Your knees felt weak - it was a good thing you were hanging loosely in the air, otherwise, you would've fell to the ground, and a strong part of you didn't want him to have that pleasure.

He smiled, getting up from the throne. The automatons dropped you, making you land on your butt with a loud thump. You would've groaned, but now you just stared at the boy coming near you, with tears in your eyes.

He had completely changed his look. He was wearing a blue shirt with a black tie, and he was holding a brown staff filled with chemicals. Though the cold look in his eyes hadn't changed at all.

"You know, I thought it was going to be Xavier bringing you up here, but guess my automatons works too." He spoke, grinning. He walked over to you, offering you a hand to get up. You slapped it away aggressively.

How did he dare to just act like nothing had happened? How did he dare to act as if he hadn't just taken over your home, imprisoned you, kidnapped the princess and probably many others, and then greet you like this? By offering you a fucking hand?!

You stood up, your necklace shifting from a dark red to a sad blue constantly. "Who do you-" You changed your mind. "Varian, what's going on? What has happened to you, I-"

You began crying softly, interrupting yourself once again.. "Tell me it wasn't you. Please Varian, tell me you didn't do those things. Tell me this is all just one big m-misunderstanding."

He just smiled, looking at your necklace with observing eyes. Then he looked at you with cold eyes. "Oh, it was me."

Your heart dropped to your stomach. You knew that he did that thing, but having him confirm it, was something way different. Your body began shaking. "Y-You. T-Tried to k-kill Andrew? You t-tricked us all, y-you-"

"Yeah, I'll gladly take the credit for that." He chuckled, shaking his head. Then he began walking away, gesturing for you to follow. You looked back at the doors, of which you made your entrance through. They were guarded by Automatons. You didn't really have a choice.

You followed your ex-best friend slowly. You slowly got a hold of yourself, as anger took over you.

"Why?" You spat through gritted teeth. "The whole mission had been a trap. A way for you to get us away from Corona while your automatons took over the kingdom. There is no fucking moonflower, there's no fucking potion. It was all made up. And we blindly trusted you."

"Wow, I'm impressed (Y/n). " He laughed, walking over to a chair, which he gestured for you to sit on. When you didn't obey, he snapped his fingers, making some moon dogs appear behind some curtains, growling at you.

You sat down, and he walked behind you, speaking: "You all were so easy to fool. Especially you, (Y/n). You would trust that boy with your life if you had to - which would turn out to be a bad idea, now that I'm here."

Your anger was replaced with confusion, as Varian tied you up to the chair. "Did you just refer to yourself in third person? How psychotic have you become?"

He laughed maniaclly. "Oh, you haven't figured it out yet? "

He stepped in front of you, smiling down at you. "Want to speak to him? Maybe he can tell you himself?"

What was he talking about?

Then something unexpected happened. Suddenly Varian's cold and smiling expression faded away, getting replaced with a soft and sad one. And you recognized it all too well.

"Varian." You whispered, and he jumped slightly at your voice. He looked at your bruised body, and the chair you were tied up to.

"Oh no." He cried out, reaching for you. "No, no, no, no! God, what have I done?"

He sunk down to his knees, reaching out for you. "I'm so sorry, god, I'm so sorry (Y/n)! It's not me, h-he's forcing me to-... I, he... I can't control him, me, myself... I'm so sorry (Y/n), I-" He sobbed, throwing his arms around your neck.

You were so confused at that point. You didn't know what to say. "Varian..." You spoke again.

Then you remembered what he had said that day.

He's coming... Taking over...When the night falls, (Y/n), he's planned everything. E-Everything since the beginning... It was a trap....Innocent lives will be lost...W-Wicked, his plans are wicked... He'll start with her. ..I can't do this anymore... Too strong, he's way too strong."

It wasn't him that did all of those thing! It was something inside him... He didn't want this!

Or was he tricking you once again? Making you vulnerable?

No, this right in front of you, the person clinging to you like his life depended on it was the Varian that you knew and loved. But how could that be possible?

And then Varian stopped crying, standing up. His cold expression had returned.

Tears streamed down your face. "How... You-... What have you done to him, you psychopath!"

You were relieved, angry and confused all at once. Relieved that Varian somehow didn't do all of those things. Angry at this... Person standing in front of you right now, for making him do something that he would never do... And confused about how having two personalities was even possible.

"How-" You stammered. The boy in front of you smiled wickedly. "You don't have to worry about it, sweetheart. Soon, we'll be one." He lowered his head, coming closer to you. He smelled like cinnamon as always. You kept an angry and challenging expression at him. It was a shame you didn't have you hands-free to smack him in the face.

"And when that happens, he'll realize how disgusting you are. How you're using him, just like all the others. And then you'll finally get the punishment you deserve." He whispered in your ear, giving you chills.

"Why do you do this? Taking over Corona, taking everyone prisoner in their own house, preventing us from saving the world from the black rocks. Why?"

He grinned, looking at you. The look in his eyes scared you. How did someone so innocent-looking, manage to look so... Insane?. "This world, this government, these people's behavior have gotten way out of hand. Thinking they own everything. Thinking everyone's fine, pretending to like each other. Use each
