"So what do you say, padawan? Are you willing to give me a shot?" She had a slow reaction, but a good one. She nodded multiple times before getting up to give me a hug. Her tiny little arms could barely wrap all the way around me. There was a chorus or Aww's I rolled my eyes at.
"Well Ahsoka, welcome to the team."
"Thanks Hunt-" I CAN'T BREATHE!!! I turned my head to see Wrecker hugging the living shit outta me. Literally I couldn't see shit.
"Wreck- put- down!" I choked out as well as I could.
"Sorry. I just got excited." Those words. I couldn't explain it but they triggered something. I took a sharp breath in and shrieked. I fell to the ground. Pure black enclosed my vision until it was lit up by pure white now. Oh great. Now I'm hearing voices. Cause this type of thing just screams saneness.
"Strictly stealth. No blasting. No blowing things up. No one knows were here." I know that voice! No. It can't be... then I heard various yells and blaster shots.
"Sorry. I just got excited." My vision flashed silver again.
"Still showing off, huh General."
"You know me Echo." I jolted up. I looked around frantically to see I was on the Havoc Marauder. I sighed with relief but I couldn't shake that feeling of dread hearing his voice.
"Oh good your awake."
"We were worried you died." Hunter slapped Wrecker upside the head. It made a strange sound.
"Wrecker!" Hunter hissed but I merely laughed.
"It's alright guys. I'm fine." I could tell they still had questions, especially Echo. But I just wasn't ready to share the answers yet. Simple as that.
Hunter's pov
I don't care what that girl says, something is wrong. She left us and headed into the cargo room. I left Omega and Wrecker alone while I went to the cockpit.
"Tech. I need help."
"Yes yes I know Sarge. You want help looking for mental stability and a life's purpose but I've told you numerous times I cannot-"
"Tech." He sighed.
"Sorry. You were saying?" I took a deep breath and sat in the copilot seat next to him. I watched as we traveled deep into hyperspace.
"I want you to look up Ahsoka Tano as a jedi padawan learner and tell me every detail of what you find." He gasped lightly and reached for his datapad. He was about to hand it to me but stopped in mid reach.
"Are you sure you want to see this?" It was not shocking he already researched her since it was like, literally all he does.
"Yes. There are things she's not telling us. Things I need to know if she's going to be apart of this squad." He looked at the datapad and sighed.
"The only reason she hasn't told you yet is because she isn't mentally ready too. Are you sure you should be snooping?"
"Technically it's not snooping if it's on the holonet for the galaxy to see."
"Well I define snooping as a way to sneakily gain secret-"
"Tech!" I snapped loudly. Louder than I meant too. I didn't want to do this but he left me no choice.
"Tech I order you to give me your holopad. Now." He sighed and reluctantly handed it too me. My eyes grew bigger by every word I read. They sent her out into a war in a crop top and mini skirt at 14 years old! I thought the jedi were supposed to be holy!? There was something about a virus on Naboo she stopped with a Senator and Captain Rex. Then there was a paragraph about how she was kidnapped by some trandoshain and ended up saving the lost padawans. And then there was the part that shocked me the most. I read it out loud.
"Padawan learner Ahsoka Tano charged with murder and treason against the Grand Army of The Republic!?" Tech shook his head slowly. I knew there was something off about her! The whole 'I'm not a jedi' thing all makes sense now! She was a traitor to the Republic! And a traitor to the jedi order.
"Perhaps I shall read further for you." I raised an eyebrow at Tech. Tech took his datapad back and cleared his throat. He was really being a stick in the mud and made it hard for me to be angry.
"Padawan learner Ahsoka Tano charged with murder and treason against the grand army of the Republic. She was accused of killing the woman Letta Turmond in her cell and also accused of bombing the jedi temple. And because of her treasonous crimes she was banned from the jedi ord-"
"See! She is a murderer! I've got to get her off my ship and away from Ome-"
"Hunter sit your Gladius maximus down and listen to what I have to say!" I stared in shock at Tech. It was the first time he had ever raised his voice at me.
"Fine. Finish." He silently thanked me and I sat back in my seat. Oh this ought to be good.
"Padme Amidala represented her in the Senate but would have failed and Padawan Tano would have been sentenced to death by her own leaders if not for her former Master, Anakin Skywalker interrupting her trial with hard hitting evidence and a confession from the real criminal: Padawan Bariss Offee. Who we also learned later was Padawan Tano's best and closest friend. All charges on Padawan Tano have been released but that didn't stop her from leaving the Republic, and therefore the jedi order." My mouth hung open. Oh wow. Now the whole 'I'm not a jedi' thing makes even more sense. She wasn't a traitor to the Republic or the jedi order. She was a survivor of their treachery. The Republic and jedi order betrayed her. If not for General Slywalker she would be dead right now and Omega wouldn't have anyone to look up to.
"See. Can Ms. Tano really be blamed for not wanting to share her past with us yet? Do you know how old she was when all of this happened Hunter?" All I could do was shake my head no. A lame response but I couldn't believe my eyes as I read it.
"It's Mrs. Tano." I muttered. Tech seemed to be taken back for a second which made me laugh but that only reminded him of my previous remarks.
"Okay they did not mention that on the holonet. We'll come back to that later." Tech paused another moment to rethink his words
"16. She was 16 years old when her family had abandoned her. When she left her master who most likely was the closest thing she had to a family member. When she had to leave her men who she was obviously fond of. When she was forced away from her partner captain Rex. When she was forced to leave the only life she's ever known. And to think you were about to go throw her out of the airlock into an abyss. As if she needed another horrible item to add to her I survived trauma list." I started processing this poor kids story. She's still 17. She's still technically a kid. And I thought we had it rough. Our tough experiences don't even compare to hers. And Tech is right. I was about to go shove her out the airlock all because I didn't read the other half of a kriffing paragraph.
"I'm so sorry." Seriously? Why am I being so lame today!?
"I'm not the one you should be apologizing to Hunter. Though I don't believe it would be wise to confront her about all of this yet. Her past is one of the saddest in history it must be hard for her to talk about. I know it was hard to read. Give it time and she'll tell you herself more about it I'm sure." I nodded.
"Your right Tech. These things take time. Especially when it comes to her difficult past."
