Hello my friends! Thank you for taking this wild journey with me in Dying With The Past! While I am happy to say this book is coming to a grand end, U am equally sad to say this will be the last chapter of Dying With The Past. Please enjoy it and don't skip any parts. Everything in this chapter, especially the ending is important. And with that small Author's note, let's continue shall we?
Fives' pov
One day. All it took was one day to change my mindset of everything. Kes Dameron might've been the most inspiring man I've ever had the pleasure to meet, minus General Skywalker of course. Well Skywalker back in his prime time of course. Not necessarily now for... obvious reasons. Anyway I'm getting off trsck here again. Last night was the first night every single person git a good nights slepp. I personally have never this refreshed or rejuvenated in my lifetime. And just in time too since the mandatory daily meeting was about to start. As usual I took my seat in between Echo and Megs. I've also never been this early to anything else in my lifetime.
"Hey Fives." Echo caught my attention by the left. Megs peaked her head over my shoulder to be included in the conversation as well.
"Sup brosqito."
"I- what?" Omega asked in utter confusion but she was too late because the meeting had just begun.
"Good morning ladies and gentleme-" And that's when I fell asleep. I guess some things can't change no matter how much you do.
Ahsoka's pov
Standing behind Bail watching him give the inspirational speech was empowering. For everyone but me, that is. It felt like I wasn't putting my skills to use which is what I've longed for since we came here. As much as I hate to admit it, as much as it goes against the jedi code, I need to fight. And no, not just verbal brawls with Crosshair will do anymore. I'm pregnant, not useless. Why can't anyone see that? Omega even insisted on pausing her training for me to "take a well-deserved break". It made me sick.
"Master?" My mind flashed bsck to reality at my padawan waving her hand in front of my face standing on her tippy toes. In the background Echo was hitting Fives awake with his own helmet.
"Yes?" I asked, masking my true emotions. Rex, Fives and I were the only ones who knew what was riding on today's meeting. Glancing around the room, all the people must've been dissmissed cause they certainly weren't here.
"Ahsoka? Are you okay to proceed?" Bail asked me directly. He moved from his spot in front of me to beside me. A spot that filled me with more confidence in my role and worth.
"Yes Bail I'm quite okay. Rather excited for this meeting honestly." He smiled at that then urned his focus away.
"Well there have been mixed signals and opinions among this extravagant group formed from the days of the Republic. Each of you have roots, stemming out from the seeds of the Republic which makes you all seasoned veterans, whether you were on a war front or stationed somewhere else." He looked specifically at Omega for that part, giving her a small head pat too. It was quite adorable to see this entire base warm up to her so fast.
"It doesn't matter. The point is you all have seasoned experience, excellent work ethic, vast knowledge in military procedures and battle plans, as well as your raw natural talent in the desirable skills you possess. Which makes every last one of you the already perfect soldier. Which is why you are the ideal recruits and why I want to make you all trainers." Bail concluded his argument by leaving it on solely compliments only. Smart business move. You could practically see the political side of him popping out to say hi.
"And why are you saying this today specifically sir?" Hunter knew the answer already. He just wanted to get the blunt answer out there for others who didn't. Cough cough, Wrecker, cough.
"Because someone among you has already promised you'd join the rebellion." All eyes immediately darted toward Fives. At first it wad questionable. Them thinking it was Fives who gave his word without anyone elses consent. He did stay late after but fhat doesn't mean anything to them necessarily. Then the common sense must've struck them.
"Ahsoka. Do you have something to tell them." Fives coyly said. Everybody already knew it was either me or Rex or us both, but still Fives didn't have to expose me like that.
"Damn I feel so targeted." Hunter groaned and slammed a fist into the holotable.
"Damn it Soka!" Once his hand collided with the now dented white painted metal he walked a few steps away frim what could've been my murder scene. Everyone else was being eerily queit and calm. It scared me.
"I-I'm sorry okay! He- He promised me stuff I couldn't say no to!"
"Like what!?"
"Like free child support!" I ecreamed in Hunter's face. Instant regret as soon as I did it.
"Are you kriffing kidding me?" Oof. Not a good start.
"Child support. That's what this is about, CHILD SUPPORT!? Like we wouldn't have given you support!? How many tume shave I tried to make it clear we love you Ahsoka! You and the baby! We would always support you." He basically just said I'm not mad, just disappointed which is utter bantha shit becquse he was literally lecturing me seconds ago.
"I know you would all support me. Emotionally. What about physically? How would we make enough money to feed, cloth, wash, nourish and provide even basic hygiene to the baby without a steady source of income? We couldn't is the answer. My baby would starve by day 2." Hunter seemed to be seriously considering my statement. So I took his silent thinking as a space for me to talk through.
"Look Hunter, I hate fighting. Please, no more yelling." After a long moment Hunter gave a small curt nod. I let out a breath I didn't know was being held in.
"I'm still upset with this whole situation and how you handled it... but I do see where your coming from." Hunter had a small smile on his lips you could barely make it out but it was there.
"That wasn't the only reason she did it." Rex startled everyone. Especially me who knew exactly what he was talking about. If he tells everyone my hopes of being taken seriously and being treated like everyone else is down the kriffing drain.
"What?"
"You heard me. Ahsoka also did it because she wanted to feel useful again." Thanks a lot Rex. There go my chances at being useful again.
"Is that true?" Echo was inbetween Rex and Fives when he asked that. I wanted to deny the slightly selfish reason, but I couldn't bring myself to lie so I just pathetically nodded my head.
"I-It is. I know it was selfish but I just feel so... so helpless! When I see the galaxy crumbling around me it goes against every fiber of my being to not do something about it. I believe this rebellion that Bail is leading really will help the common good. Surely I can't be the only one who thinks this... can I?" There was a moment of tense silence that was so thick you couldn't cut through it with a light saber. I know Rex and Omega believed in me but I needed more than that to get the bad batch to stay. For a second there I actually thought no one else believed me. I sighed. Judt before I was about to throw in the towel someone I hoped would, stepped up.
"At first I thought I was just gonna be another relic of the Republic. Another forgotten item that people used to respect. But seeing all of the hope in these people who bravely volunteered to be here, as well as the bravery of you all. I learned that we cant let ourselves be forgotten. We can't just.. die with the past! No!" Before Fives could conclude his rant a certain someone shocked us all by stepping forward again and putting his hand on Fives shoulder.
"We have a chance here to be great again. I think we have to take it." Crosshair stepped up. He defended Fives when he needed the reassurance. I did the same, moving around Rex to clasp Fives other shoulder.
"The force is telling me, crying for me to take this chance." Fives looked between Crosshair and I rapidly smiled. That was until Echo weaseled his way into the miment and butt bumped Crosshair to the side so he could take his place next to his arc twin. Crosshair guffed and rolle dhis eyes playfully before slapping Echo's arm and moving to the opposite side of the fable beside Hunter and Tech.
"But what if you don't believe in the force?" Tech asked me specifically. I sighed and before I could answer Omega copied Echo and maneuvered her way into our little huddle so she was in the middle of it all right below where Fives was standing. I placed my free hand on her smaller shoulder, so did Echo.
"Than you can believe in me." She said in the sweetest tone I've ever heard come out of her mouth. While it got some chuckles out of the room, I could tell not everyone was convinced. Tech being one of them.
"That's alright I know your a science man. But if you don't believe in the force, Tech, than believe in this. The past." Yeah... it sounded better in my head. Rex cringed in the corner at how corny that sounded.
"Um... please elaborate." Tech requested, unfazed by how awkward my last remark sounded. Now I'm starting to understand why Bail gives the inspirational speeches and I stand behind him. Tume to step up Ahsoka. Bring put your inner politician. Think like Padme.
"The past wars have ended, this one will too. It's that simple."
"No it's not! This war was created by the past war." Was his rebuff. It was a good one I'll admit.
"Yes but only because there was one crucial mistake made."
"Which was?" Mentally preparing to call the people who raised me a mistake was tougher than I thought it would be. What would Obi-wan think of me now?
"The jedi order. The rules and regulations the jedi order had went against basic human rights and instincts. And the first thing my master taught me was to follow my instincts. I'm going to fix the past mistakes the jedi order made and I would love yo have each and every one of you by my side."
"If your not willing to give it, that's fine too. We won't force you guys into anything." Rex added, placing his hand on my shoulder. Now it was clear who wanted to stay and who wanted to go.
"You can take the Havoc Marauder and forget this rebellion and I ever existed. But I don't think your ready to let go of either which is why I'm willing to bet you are going to stay." It was a bold assumption on my part. But a justified one nonetheless.
"You seem very confident in our choice."
"Not confident, faithful. I have faith in my friends and that they'll make the right decision." And so they did.
-The next day-
The next day was a sorrowful day, filled with goodbyes and tears, (some more manly than others). I'll admit my faith was rattled, but not broken. Especially when Hunter explained their plan more in depth to me.
No one's pov
The Bad Batch decided they didn't want to stay afterall. Ahsoka wasn't wrong though. The Bad Batch wouldn't leave forever, it was only temporary. The Bad Batch had lost a member that day. Echo couldn't bare to leave the family he just got back.
In the end, despite the fact joining the Rebellion was a questionable decision, it was the right one for Domino Squad. Everything worked out for everyone.
Omega was officially made second in charge of the new comers to the Rebellion, Domino Squad who is now the youngest yet most advanced soldier in the rebellion, second only to her master in the last category. Omega has learned the path of inbetween, now she balances her life percectly as a jedi and soldier. Living up to her word, Omega is the sassiest soldier alive thanks to the teachings of her master and mother figure, Ahsoka Tano.
Fives and Echo felt at home again with each other and their new family members, as well as the old ones. Domino squad may not be the same as the first one they shared together, but it was just as heartwarming and comforting to be together again. Maybe this new team would be even better than the first one.
Hunter finally got his bandana back and dry cleaned. As the leader of fhe bad batch sometimes he forgets he's also their brother, Ahsoka helped him realize that. Now he has figured out the perfect balance to work and family, as everyone should.
Tech has grown more okay with who and how he is. Yeah he's a nerd, and what about it? Ahsoka helped him discover his inner confidence about his quirks and abilities. Even though no one wants to listen to his long night rants about the dangers of sodium or random shit like that, it won't stop him from sharing anymore.
Wrecker has grown phenomenally in the span of his journey with his brothers. He is no longer just 'the strong one'. He is his own person with flesh, blood, and feelings. Yeah he can be oblivious sometimes, but that doesn't diminish his smartness one bit. Infact some would even say admitting that to himself makes him even smarter.
Crosshair specifically became really close to Ahsoka. After truly getting to know each other the two instantly clicked becoming the best of friends, constantly waging mental wars on each other with their playful insults that only sometimes went to far. Crossy may be a Sniper, but Ahsoka's the one who showed him that he is so much more than a pawn to be used and wasted in war. Plus he's also syarted reconnecting with his batch, forming stronger bonds than ever before.
Ahsoka wasn't aloud to go on any missions until the baby was born and in stable conditions so she spent all her tume helping her squad from the comfort and safety of Anidaland. One person always had to stay with her for extra safety whether it was him or not. Everybody always volunteered.
But once six more months and about two weeks had passed the baby was finally born. Rex was right all along. It was a girl. A beautiful baby girl they named Teagan Plo Tano who might've been the luckiest baby ever born. Ahsoka was the first one to hold the baby who had saved her life. At that very moment she promised to prioritize Teagan over all other things in her life; well, Omega might have been about even with Teagan actually. Soon Omega's padawan training would be complete, and then she would take on a student of her own. Like mother, like daughter.
The Bad Batch finally got their entire squad back together. The Domino Squad and batch care for everyone in their tight knit family and will never endanger anyone ever again. It still may not be perfect but no real family ever is.
The batch of brothers may not have joined the Rebellion, but they certainly aren't enemies. Occasionally when Domino Squad is in a bind, they know who to call. Plus they spend every holiday together. Plus, on their off time the Domino Squad always chooses fo go back to Anidaland, and guess who's always there waiting for them.
