A mix-up in paperwork left Akira stranded in the staff room for the entire afternoon, as the midday sun gradually faded into a late afternoon glow. The room now lit a pale orange, as the bell rang for the final time. The end of the school day marked the start of extracurricular activities.
The bronzed boy had yet to join a club. He was overwhelmed by the countless options and the freshness of his arrival. His teacher hadn't pushed him to choose either, assuring him he had plenty of time to decide. Which he was grateful for. But as for now, he was free to leave.
Jumping at the chance, the boy bid Nakamura-Sensei goodbye and vacated the room with haste. The halls were now empty, as the rest of the student body were at their clubs of choice and Akira preferred it that way. Saves him from having to bear through more awkward conversations and gawking students.
His objective was clear, leave school as quickly as possible. With his daily fill of uncomfortable interactions and backpack in hand, he stepped through the main entrance and into the crisp afternoon air as he trudged down the path towards the school gate, in doing so passing the Football pitch, when out of nowhere he heard a voice shout.
"Look out!"
A football shot towards him at a startling speed. At that moment Akira's body moved entirely on instinct, lifting his leg to receive and block the ball, his leg absorbed the impact of the powerful strike as he brought it under control effortlessly, turning a lethal shot into a dead ball situation.
With the ball at his feet, the curly-haired boy fought the urge to do a few tricks and ultimately lost. As he kicked, spun and bent the ball to his will, firing it back on the half volley and continuing on his way. Not even bothering to look back at the ball that had gracefully curled itself into the back of the net, 60 yards away.
With eyes now fixated on the gate, that seemed to creep closer and closer Akira hadn't noticed the boy who dashed to catch up with him. "Akira, wait up!" Turning at the sound of his name, the bronzed boy saw a sweaty and slightly disheveled Reo jog towards him. Finally caught up, Akira couldn't help but jump at the volume of his classmate's question.
"You play football!?!"
"Umm...yes?"
Reo hadn't meant for his question to sound like a yell, he was just surprised. At how easily he had controlled his stray shot and how gracefully and accurately he had returned the ball, placing it in the back of the net with the precision of a surgeon. All without breaking a sweat, he truly was perfect.
The revelation that Akira was not only gorgeous but also talented at football only solidified Reo's belief, that he was made to be his. Destined to be his treasure, along with Nagi. It was meant to be the three of them, against the world. And he would be damned if he didn't try his hardest to make that a reality.
"Ah sorry, I didn't mean to yell..." The indigo teen trailed off, embarrassed at his outburst. "Have you ever considered joining the team?" Reo asked hopeful as he observed Akira's facial expressions and body language intently as they morphed from confusion to shock in the blink of an eye.
"O quรช? Eu?...you want me for you team?" The tanned boy asked pointing to himself, eyes wide in disbelief. "Yes! Come on, it'll be fun. Me, you, and Nagi together on a team. We would be unstoppable! The best in the world!" Reo knew he was laying it on thick, but he wasn't lying. Though he had only had a taste of Akira's skill he was sure there was so much more to discover, and with skills like his combined with Reo's and Nagi's, they would be unstoppable.
The curly-haired boy seemed to contemplate for a moment, weighing up his options. Eventually settling on giving him a bright smile and a sure nod, much to Reo's delight. Quickly scooping up his hand in his, and gently guiding him in the direction of the pitch where his new team stood, watching keenly as they approached.
'his canines are sharp...like a cat' The amethyst boy thought silently as they walked hand in hand towards the pitch, thinking back to the smile Akira gave him. So bright it could block out the sun, Reo could only hope that he could make him smile more often so he could enjoy that radiant expression again. 'his hands are so warm too' Mikage couldn't help but glance at their hands, fitted together so perfectly. Like pieces of the same puzzle, interlocking seamlessly and without complaint. It felt correct.
And for the rest of the afternoon, Akira found himself warmly embraced by his new team. He didn't talk much and preferred to listen sticking close to either Nagi or Reo, who didn't seem to mind. If anything they seemed to encourage the bronze boy's closeness, aiding him in feeling more comfortable in his new surroundings, while he found his footing with the team, which he did rather quickly.
The chemistry between him and Reo was undeniable. The duo fell into skink with ease, reading and responding to each other's plays seamlessly. Akira did most of the scoring, while Reo sent him perfectly serviced passes in lethal striking areas. They worked together exquisitely, a perfectly oiled machine, with not a kink in sight.
The rest of their team couldn't help but watch in awe, as the two of them connected in a way that made them look, otherworldly. Even Nagi who had yet to kick a single ball watched in amazement. Their play styles complemented each other flawlessly, they looked head and shoulders above the rest. Diamonds in the rough if you will.
"Good work today everyone, clean up and get home safe!"
The team bid farewell to each other after a long day of school and practice, and gradually filtered out of the changing room, with Akira, Reo, and Nagi being the only people left. While Akira and Reo changed out of their sweaty grass-stained clothes, Nagi lay sprawled out over a bench eyes focused on his game in typical Nagi fashion.
"Um- Obrigado Reo for let me borrow you shoes and clothes," The tanned boy thanked him as he held out his purple-haired companion's spare uniform and football boots he had lent him for practice. He didn't have his team uniform for the time being and he had lost his football boots in the process of moving to Japan and had yet to buy new ones.
To which Reo shook his head as he gently pushed the items away, "No keep them, they look better on you anyway." Now Reo knew that as soon as Akira received his new team uniform he would stop wearing the one he had now gifted him, which saddened him more than he would care to admit.
He liked the look of his name on his back, a reminder to everyone around them that Ito Akira was his. An subtle mark of possessiveness, that would soon fade but Reo could at least find some joy in that he would at least get to see his name and number on the curly-haired boy's back a few more times before it would be swapped out for his own.
"Y-you sure?" the bronzed boy asked again, to which the amethyst-eyed teen merely nodded with a soft smile. To which Akira couldn't help but blush, averting his eyes and mumbling a quick 'okay' before shoving the clothes and shoes into his bag. Before turning his focus to his hair, he began his attempt at taming his now sweat-covered hair and lost.
"Want some help?" Reo offered as he watched his friend battle with his curls, his heart swelled as his new friend sent him a look that could only be described as a silent plea for help. Settling the curly-haired boy in between his thighs, Reo began to gently brush through his luscious locks, occasionally using his hand to smooth his hair down.
Reo could not help but awe at the softness of it. He wondered what products he used, as he gently scratched and massaged his scalp before gathering Akira's hair in a low ponytail.
"All done!" Reo said as he marvelled at his masterpiece, "do you like it?" the Indigo teen asked looking to the bronzed boy whose eyes were still closed in content. "Akira?" slowly prying his eyes open to look at Reo he couldn't help but blush. "I like you play with my hair, why stop?" he asked looking to the purple-haired boy, his face morphing into instant regret and embarrassment. He hadn't meant to say that aloud.
"Ha, I can play with your hair more often if you'd like"
"...sim...please"
To hear that Akira liked him playing with his hair, brought Reo an unimaginable amount of joy. His brain started to run wild with all of the nice products he could buy to maintain his silky strands and all of the hairstyles he could learn to do on him.
"Akira, Reo, I'm tired. Let's go home" Nagi was tired, but that's not why he interrupted the moment between his two friends. In truth, he felt some bothersome emotions bubble beneath the surface. Though he would never admit it, Nagi was jealous of Reo's closeness to Akira. How he got to indulge in his touch while he was left to the side, part of him felt guilty for how he felt but another part of him felt justified.
He wanted to be close to him too, to make conversation, play with his hair, make him blush etc. If it were anyone else it would have been a bother, but for Akira it was worth it. Something about him was different, intising Nagi in a way that made him want to try. So he shall and he will.
But for now, he had no problem repressing his feelings, until he could forge a closer bond with the golden-eyed beauty that had somehow snuck through his heart's defences. "Ah okay, let's go" Reo said as he broke apart from Akira, much to his silent dismay. The two quickly gathered their belongings before joining the white-haired boy.
The trio walked in formation, with Akira in the middle, Nagi to the left, and Reo to the right. With Nagi's arm snaked around his waist and his hand intertwined with Reo's, they walked out of the changing room and towards the car park where Reo's driver was waiting to take them home.
Reo eagerly discussed tactics and formations for their upcoming match against Dadada High School, while playing with Akira's hair as he lay his head in his lap while Nagi's as he gamed away next to him. The trio enjoyed the car ride together, waving goodbye when getting off at their respective stops.
That same night two teens fell asleep dreaming of liquid gold eyes and sun-kissed skin, while the curly-haired boy in question dreamt peacefully knowing that at least he had made some friends. Maybe moving to Japan wouldn't be so bad after all.
