๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ the lime-green doors of the motel room, which were quickly opened to reveal the Handler, who was dressed in a black dress that glittered in the dim light.
A grin spread onto her face as she registered the two faces, and she exclaimed, "Ah! Just in time for a nightcap."
As the Handler went to prepare drinks, Valerie and Five entered the motel room, looking around. The colour scheme of the room seemed to be green, with its wallpaper, bedding, curtains, and couches all bearing the dominant colour.
His eyes glancing around the room, Five turned and shut the doors tightly.
"To be clear, we take out the board . . ." He exhaled as the woman lit a cigar. "You get us and our family home. No more doomsday, no more apocalypse. Is that correct?"
She gave a sly smirk as she strode over to the nightstand and picked up a small slip of paper. Lounging across the bed, the cigar still stuck in her mouth, she gave a curt nod. "That's the deal."
Five glanced over at Valerie, who gave him a small nod, before confirming, "Then we're in."
A smirk growing on her face, the Handler allowed Five to take the folded paper from her. He opened it to reveal cursive writing that stated:

1982
Valerie and Five walked towards the Lonely Lodger Inn, passing a row of parked cars. They quickly moved to the side as a man got out of the car, dressed in what seemed to be red and black traditional Czech clothing.
Hurriedly, they headed inside the Inn, whose walls were made of stone, and was filled with more people dressed in the same manner. A sign next to the door announced the Polka Festival, explaining the traditional clothing, though they didn't pay too much attention to that.
They then noticed a woman who was wearing a green vest and was leaned over a white-clothed tabled. Clearly, she worked there.
"Okay, Five," Valerie whispered as she turned to him and raised her eyebrows. "I'm going to go talk to her, all right?"
"Mhm." He nodded, his eyes trained on the curly-haired woman.
The two approached her, and before Valerie could say anything, Five immediately greeted, "Excuse me."
Valerie groaned internally and shook her head. This boy . . .
The woman jumped in surprise as she looked up at them. "Uff da! You snuck up on me there! If you're looking for the cookies, we don't put 'em out till three."
"I can hardly wait," Five humoured her as he shifted in his spot and glanced towards the side. "Uh, do you happen to know where the Midwest Soybean Society is meeting?"
"Sure do," she answered with a nod before gesturing towards the hall. "Muskellunge Banquet Room. You two looking for your moms? Are they in for the convention?"
He gave a slight nod before heading in the direction of the hall, Valerie trailing close behind him.
They entered, and Five immediately stopped, shoving his hand into his pocket. He pulled out the bar that made Valerie groan out loud. "Eat."
"Oh, come on," she whined softly as she took it from him and gave it a look of distaste. "It's so gross."
"Eat."
Grumbling, she unwrapped the bar and took a bite from it, chewing it very slowly until she swallowed it. "You need energy too, doofus."
"I can't eat that, I'm pretty sure my body would explode," Five scoffed as he shook his head.
"Just take a small bite," Valerie suggested as she held out the bar towards him, her eyebrows raised.
"You already took a bite out of that," he pointed out, eyeing the half-eaten bar with nervousness.
"Oh, shut up" โshe rolled her eyes as she pushed the bar further towards himโ "you kiss me all the time. It's the same thing."
"Fine." He reluctantly took it from her and took a tiny bite, his face immediately scrunching up in disgust as he tried to swallow it. "Oh my God."
"I know," she sighed as he shoved the bar back into her hand. "I've had to eat like ten of these every day."
"Disgusting," Five muttered as he wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, his nose wrinkled and his eyes squinted.
As Valerie finished the rest of her bar, Five's attention caught onto a fire axe that hung on the wall. He walked up to it and grabbed it off of its holder, then weighing it in his hands as he looked over the sharp blade.
He looked over to Valerie as she threw away the wrapper and raised his eyebrows. "Ready?"
"Mhm," she confirmed with a nod while she brushed her skirt off.
His eyes shifted nervously over her face as he tentatively asked, "Are you suโ"
"I'm sure," she cut him off, giving him a reassuring smile as she nodded towards the doors ahead of them. "Let's go."
"And hey," he said suddenly, a smirk growing on his face, "leave some for me, alright?"
After receiving a grin and nod from Valerie, the two of them headed past the doors, and he led the way into the conference room.
At the table sat twelve people, all dressed in suits and their attention paid to the leader of the group. The man at the head of the table seemed to have a fish tank for a head, with a plump goldfish swimming around in the middle.
The goldfish spoke, "Let's move onto Article seventeen, please."
Just then, they noticed the two new presences as they arrived inside. The goldfish-man stood up, and shouted, "You! Security!"
The woman closest to them rolled her chair backwards so that she could grab the phone, but just as her hand clutched the receiver, Five swung his axe and cut the forearm in half. It wasn't long until her eyes fluttered to a shut, and her head lolled back.
Valerie moved swiftly along the left side of the table as Five went through the right. This wasn't her first time killing people, although it had been quite some time since she had. But the sensation of phasing her hand through each of their hearts was, unfortunately, a familiar one, and she almost felt apologetic as each of them dropped dead to the ground.
But they would be able to go home, she reminded herself. Besides, it wasn't like these people were exactly good. Right?
She came to a stop after the sixth person fell off of their chair. She looked around to see the bloodied mess that Five had created, and the person whose lower half of the body was hanging from the ceiling. How Five had managed that, she wasn't too sure, and she was not going to ask.
Five, blood staining every inch of his face and clothes, stood on the table, before the goldfish-man. The strange hybrid cowered in fear, a few drops of blood glistening against the glass tank.
"She sent you, didn't she?" the goldfish-man accused, his voice trembling.
Five scoffed, "Does it really matter now?"
"Whatever she offered you," the man proposed, "I will double it, triple it."
Five shook his head and firmly told him, "I'm not doing this for money."
Five was about to swing his axe down on the man before he was thrown to the side. The woman from the table before had jumped onto him and was clutching him tightly as he tried to wrestle himself out of her grip.
"You're paying for this mess, mister!" she exclaimed in a shrilly voice.
"I don't wanna hurt you, all right?" Five warned as he rolled out of her arms, his eyebrows furrowed.
"Hurt me?" She echoed incredulously. She threw a punch into his face as she spat, "Oh, I ain't afraid of you, you little pus ball."
She was then knocked out as Valerie sped over and punched her in the face. The woman rolled over slightly onto her back, the side of her face red, and her breathing beginning to slow.
"Thanks," Five breathed out as he clambered to his feet. "You okay?"
"I'm fine," she sighed as she ran a hand through her hair. She took in all the blood that stained his clothes, hoping that none of it belonged to him as she questioned, "You?"
"I'm good," he reassured her as he swivelled his head around. He then groaned; goldfish-man had disappeared.
Valerie frowned. That wasn't good.
"Shit," Five breathed out. He looked around once more and grabbed a cricket bat from above the fireplace, gripping it tightly as his eyes wildly searched the room.
Valerie then grabbed onto his shoulders and sped them back into the hallway, where they found the goldfish-man attempting to run away.
He held his hands up in defence as they stepped in front of him, and his voice quivered as he spoke, "Surely we can come to some form of agreement that benefits both parties. Quid pro quo? What do you say?"
"Why not?" Five gave him a grin and a small nod. "Here's your quid." He whacked the goldfish-man on the right side of his body. "Here's your pro." He hit the left side, forcing the goldfish-man to drop to his knees in pain.
"No! No!" the man begged. "Please don't!"
"Here's" โFive readjusted his grip on the handle of the bat, sizing up the tank with his eyesโ "your quo." He smashed the glass tank, forcing both the water and the goldfish to go flying out.
Just then, the doors to the hallway opened, and two young ladies entered. They got a good look at the bloody Five that stood over the headless man, and immediately turned around, shutting the door behind them.
Valerie looked down at the fish that was flopping on the ground, his mouth opening and closing silently.
She looked back up at Five with raised eyebrows and quipped, "You got a plastic bag?"
