"Isn't that Belos?" She continued as the group's smiles all dropped into frowns.
A flash of light pulled the group out of their sadness. Hunter, Luz and Amity peered over the edge of the truck, Masha narrating the story as teeth-shaped lights flickered on one by one. Underneath were cardboard cut-outs of buildings with the lights turned on.
"The year is 1613," The storyteller began. "Two orphan brothers arrived in Gravesfield. Their names?"
Two cardboard puppets of the brothers were lowered.
The older one had long blonde hair tied back into a ponytail and a dark blue coat on his shoulders as he clutched his younger brother's hand. The younger one was shorter. He had brown shoulder-length hair with a purple vest and seemingly looked up to his older brother.
"Philip..."
Hunter, Georgia and Luz simultaneously flinched at the memory of Belos' figure. Georgia shivered, recalling how they previously met.
"...And Caleb."
"Oh no," Hunter muttered, his grip on the truck's side tightening as Georgia gently placed her hand over his, Luz watching him in worry.
The two students Luz had met previously were pulling on the strings of the little cardboard puppets, carrying on with the story. Grins were on their faces as Masha spoke again.
"Caleb did his best to take care of his younger brother. They tried to fit in with this town, and its unsavoury practices. They became witch hunters."
Cut-out pitchforks, torches and fists appeared to prove the storyteller's point further, their expression morphing into one of intrigue.
"Local lore suggests that the Brothers Wittebane met a real witch from another world!"
A witch with bushy hair appeared from above them on a broom. Her hair was long and grey, and she was dressed from head to toe in different shades of crimson. Luz and Hunter stared at the cutout while Georgia perked up, hearing her mother's name.
It wasn't likely that her mother was over four hundred years old, so it was sheer coincidence. She missed returning to her mother's hugs.
"Her name was Evelyn," Masha stared up at the witch cut-out that was soon pulled away. "And the older brother was spirited away."
The Caleb cutout walked further from his brother, as the cutout of Evelyn's hand held a little red bird with flames around it.
"She dazzled him with magic and visions of a strange yet beautiful place. They used a secret code to travel between worlds."
Caleb walked into a pit of flames, falling in as his brother appeared, now grown older, as he held a jagged knife in his hands.
"Philip set off to save his brother and bring the witch to justice," Flames engulfed Philip's cutout too. "But neither were ever seen again!"
The cutout was replaced with leaves, blowing in the wind as the group returned their attention to their storyteller as they sat down on a stool behind them.
"Maybe Philip saved Caleb, and they went on to lead peaceful lives. Or maybe he's still chasing his brother, caught in a cycle of horror and strife!"
Masha pulled out a torchlight as they turned it on, the group gasping as Georgia's gaze dropped to the ground, knowing that Philip never died. Masha spotted Luz and Hunter's horrified expressions, putting the torch away as they shrugged.
"Sounds like big bro got a hot witch girlfriend and little bro got upset," Masha joked as the truck came to a halt.
"But that's just me."
Hunter and Luz hopped down, Georgia following as her boyfriend helped her down. Amity halted Willow and Gus as the two later witches glanced up at their friend.
Meanwhile as Georgia was talking to Luz, the two discussing with one another about Philip's background, Hunter dusted his outfit off before hearing sinister laughter.
His eyes widened in fear and goosebumps grew as he let out a gasp.
Lurking in the distance was a shadowy figure with glowing blue eyes. The boy couldn't tell if the horns protruding from its head were tree branches, or if it had any horns at all.
He began to sweat nervously, the boy's eyes darting to the person he needed for most comfort. His eyes darted to Georgia, but she was already walking towards Willow and Gus, and if he ran towards her, he might've made things too suspicious.
Seeing the person closest to him, he slammed his hand on Luz's shoulder, the girl jolting as she looked at Hunter in confusion for a reason for his erratic attitude.
"LUZ!" He grabbed the girl to the other side of the truck, so that they would be out of sight of the others.
Luz cried out as she was dragged along the girl kneeling as Hunter glanced around wearily in fear.
"What's going on?" Luz frowned.
"It's him!" Hunter stared at Luz, fear dominantly present in his eyes. "He's here! I saw him this time! And it wasn't in my head at all. You believe me right?"
Luz's frown deepened in pure confusion, raising an eyebrow at her brother-figure.
"Well, how can you be sure? What would he be doing here?"
Hunter looked down in thought before his eyes widened in realisation, two words escaping his mouth in a mutter.
"Titan Blood."
Luz looked at Hunter's realisation, her confusion only growing as she looked at him as though he were demented. Hunter noticed this and sighed, looking over at Luz sorrowfully as he explained his thoughts to her slowly, Luz sitting herself down.
"I'm not supposed to tell, but the secret code that guide mentioned? It's a puzzle, a rebus we found in the shack," Hunter explained. "Amity thinks it leads to Titan Blood."
"Titan Blood? Puzzles? Amity?!" Luz hissed incredulously. "Why didn't anyone say anything?"
"You and your mom do so much for us," Hunter frowned, taking his headset off. "We wanted to do something for you, and she's gonna surprise you with it tonight."
His smile grew hopefully while Luz's heart dropped, the human girl forcing a smile on as she remembered the unfortunate "surprise" she would be presenting her girlfriend with.
"That is so sweet," She strained out, breaking into a mild nervous sweat.
Before anything else could be said, Luz and Hunter heard their names being called out by Georgia. The duo peaked their heads around the corner of the truck to see Amity halting alongside her as they went to look for the said duo.
"Where are Luz and Hunter?" Georgia frowned.
"I dunno," Amity shrugged. "I thought you were with them last."
"They must've wondered off for more events?" Gus offered as the mentioned duo frowned at their worry.
"We need to find the Titan Blood first," Luz glanced down at Hunter. "Just to be sure. I don't wanna freak anyone out yet."
"You don't believe me yet, do you?" Hunter frowned at the Latina. "Fine! I'll prove he's here!"
Hunter pulled the collar of his shirt down, calling out his palisman's name.
"Flapjack!"
Not long after, the red cardinal palisman flew out before Hunter and Luz, the blonde boy giving the bird a new instruction as the bird chirped.
"Can you get the rebus?"
Flapjack's eye narrowed at Hunter's command, knowing that the action wouldn't have a good result. Something was up with his owner, and he didn't like the way it was heading.
"I'll say it again," Hunter hissed, unaware of the distortion in his voice. Or the blue tint in his eye.
"Get. The. Rebus."
Flapjack chirped in fear as he flew off, Hunter glaring as Luz disapproved of Hunter's actions. The girl walked around him, huffing at the boy.
"Hey! What the heck!"
"Sorry," Hunter gripped his head, realising that what he had done was wrong. "I don't know what came over me."
Meanwhile, the others searched for their two missing friends, Amity unaware of the little red bird that flew towards her. The cardinal pulled the rebus from within Amity's pocket, flying towards his owner.
"Good work," Hunter opened his collar again as Flapjack flew in.
While the others continued to look around, Hunter and Luz ran off towards the forest, in search of the aforementioned blue liquid.
