Lights flickered on as a banner that was hung read 'Old Gravesfield Halloween Festival' as children ran from door to door for candy. House lights flickered on to prepare for the onslaught of trick-or-treaters who eagerly knocked on homes for confectionery.
A jeep pulled over just before Old Gravesfield, a pair of blue, white and gold-lined boots stepping out of the vehicle as a few more pairs of shoes followed after.
The group of teen witches stepped out of the car as they hid their palismen in their cloaks, hoods and pockets. Willow grinned as she tucked Clover under her headdress, walking over to Georgia in the curiosity of her best friend's outfit as Luz spoke to Camila.
The Latina wore a mint green wig and her outfit matched Amity's Hecate-themed one, Luz leaning over the car window as Camila watched her daughter.
"Make sure to help Vee with the trick-or-treaters," Luz began, but her words faded from Willow's range of audio.
"Georgie, wait up!" Willow called out.
"Alright, alright, I'm not walking that quickly," Georgia chuckled, examining the plant witch's outfit. "Glad to see that you stuck with your bat-themed demon costume."
Willow twirled around with a slight giggle, Georgia spinning her best friend with a smile.
"Thanks, Georgie," She smiled with a stop. "I liked the colour scheme. I'm curious about yours though. What are you meant to be?"
Georgia looked down at her outfit, lifting up her purple cloak before flipping her hood over her head.
"Luz told me about this mystical game called 'Dungeons and Dragons: Honour Among Thieves'," Georgia pulled her phone out, showing a picture of the character to Willow.
"She suggested that I be the druid character, Doric was it? Anyways she said that we were both 'shapeshifters', which sounded fun," Georgia shrugged. "Personally, I don't think I'm justified to be Doric, so I did my own version!"
"It looks great, Georgia," Willow placed her hand on Georgia's shoulder. "You'd be an amazing druid, even though they're pretty useless back home."
Willow smiled, sharing a chuckle with Georgia before walking up to Gus and Amity, the girl looking down at her book in thought before a hand was placed on her back. The oracle witch jumped slightly before looking up to see familiar maroon eyes.
"Earth to Wolfie, you alright?" Hunter gave a small concerned smile, Georgia smiling softly back at him.
"Yeah, I'm just fine," She took his hand, clasping it tight. "Just a question though, is that okay?"
"Shoot, there's no need to ask if you have a question at all," Hunter chuckled.
Georgia pulled away with a joking smile, pulling at the ends of her cloak.
"Do you think all this purple makes me look like a clown?" She smiled slightly.
Hunter walked towards her, his smile gone without a trace. Georgia's own smile lowered slowly in fear that she had said something wrong before her boyfriend cupped her cheeks. In the darkness, she somehow managed to notice the faint pink tint on them.
"I think you look beautiful."
The oracle witch felt her face heat up rapidly as Hunter leaned in, quickly pecking the girl's forehead. Georgia watched, slightly dazed, as the blonde boy quickly clasped their hands, him lightly tugging her arm to catch up with the others.
"C'mon, Georgie," He teased. "The others are waiting for us."
Georgia nodded with a shy smile, following after him as the duo reunited with Amity, Willow and Gus, the trio smirking at them knowingly, Georgia's cheeks turning an even darker shade of red.
"Alright people, back to the more important matters at hand," Amity sighed with a smile. "We'll keep the puzzle a secret until the time is right, and then, we'll tell her about the Titan Blood!"
Amity clasped her hands in excitement, Willow and Gus grinning at each other as Georgia smiled along with Amity's excitement, her boyfriend grinning along. Hunter's ear twitched, as he inhaled sharply, thinking he heard Belos' chuckle.
Flapjack followed his owner's gaze, finding that Hunter was staring out into the dark forest. The fence that was blocking off the entrance read 'DEAD END'.
"Did you hear that?" Hunter whispered to his palisman, which chirped back with a frown.
"Hey, it's okay," Hunter cracked an uneasy smile, trying to ease his bird-friend. "It's probably just in my head again. Nestle down, Flapjack."
Flapjack twittered, nodding before a yellow glow enveloped him. Hunter took his now-still palisman and tucked him into his shirt, turning to face the others. Unfortunately, the boy was unaware of the growing green stripes that crept up his neck.
Amity smiled softly as she placed her hands on Luz's shoulders, Willow smiling in excitement as she listened to Amity's words.
"We're gonna have the best night!" The abomination witch hummed. "And we might even have a surprise for you!"
The witch with the orange wig pulled her girlfriend along with a close-eyed smile, unaware of the frown Luz had on her face as she muttered her response.
"Yeah, me too."
The group walked through the area, turning corners around shops, before stopping by an ongoing play that happened in the square centre.
"I hath seen the Mrs Smith consorting with spirits unpure!" A character, the accusor pointed at the woman.
"Is this true, Mrs Smith?" The judge frowned at the woman in the cage as she gripped the bars.
"Nay! 'Tis a fool lie!" The woman, Mrs Smith, replied. "Inquisitor Jones is tarring me a demon's varlet so as to take mine fields!"
"Demon lies!" The accusor, Inquisitor Jones, hissed.
"Your Honor! I do object!"
The other characters' eyes were wide as Gus hopped on stage, a hand raised in the air. The boy placed his hands on his hips as he began to defend the accused woman.
"It is Inquisitor Jones who is in leagues with the dark forces!" Gus grinned.
"Kid, come on, this is my spotlight," Inquisitor Jones huffed with crossed arms.
But before he could say anymore, Gus cast a spell circle, the light blue ring fading as he pulled the pants off of Inquisitor Jones.
"Behold!"
In a puff of light blue smoke, it was revealed that Inquisitor Jones had red goat legs and a forked tail, the Judge gasping as the Inquisitor screamed in horror before running off stage.
Mrs Smith smiled as leaned through the cage's bars, pecking Gus on the cheek as the boy blushed with clasped hands.
With this, the crowd cheered, applauding with wide smiles before a man pushed his way between the crowd, a glare on his face.
"Why are you clapping?!" He hissed as other glared at him.
Jacob climbed over the ribbon barrier, but not without falling in the process as he let out a curse.
He then pointed an accusatory finger at Gus, the illusionist raising an eyebrow at the guy's strange antics.
"These children are demon spawn. And they want your teeth!" He screamed before pulling Gus' headset off.
"Look! Look at his ears! He's from Mars!"
Gus flinched as he gently held his ears, Georgia rushing up to her friend as she placed a hand on his back.
"Hey man, give my brother his headset back!" She hissed, giving Jacob a death glare.
"Yeah, lay off the costume man!" Gus yelled, pointing his finger at the man.
Not long after, two cops ran at Jacob, knocking him over as they restrained him. Jacob dropped Gus' headset, Georgia picking it up as she scoffed down at Jacob's winced face.
"That was well-deserved. Pick on someone your own age," She glowered, narrowing her eyes.
The woman beside the man shook her head with a frustrated sigh as she pinched the bridge of her nose in annoyance before apologising to Gus and Georgia.
The two teens accepted her apology before returning back to their group and running over to the sign that read 'Hay rides'.
Soon spotting a truck that was waiting for them, the group stepped onto the hay bales before seating themselves in the vehicle. Luz sat down with a hum, excited to hear what story they had in plan this year, Amity taking her place beside her as they clasped hands.
"I hope you're all prepared for a truly scary ride," Masha, the host, hummed with a faux-sinister smile.
"Make us cry! Make us cry!" Gus and Willow chanted in unison.
"Because there's nothing scarier than knowledge!" Masha continued her previous sentence.
"Boo! Just lie to me!" Gus frowned with a thumbs down.
Masha smiled at his antics as Georgia chuckled lightly, resting her head on Hunter's shoulder as the engine of the truck revved, the vehicle beginning to move.
"Let me tell you the eeriest unsolved mystery of Gravesfield," Masha spoke as the truck began to move.
"The Tale of the Brothers Wittebane."
