"dude."
After Will Schuester had left a plastic fork in the teachers lounge for her to clean up after a peace-making lunch date, Sue Sylvester had become full of rage and had restarted her war on the glee club, starting with a surprise invitational.
For the new directions, this was probably the worst thing Sue could've done for their team's spirits. Instantly worried that they'd have the same terrified reaction to the Warblers and Vocal Adrenaline's performances as the original six members of the glee club, Rachel, Kurt, Sam and Katy were desperately trying to find as much leeway as possible.
They'd tried Mr Schue first and they thought they'd persuaded him so next, they approached Blaine whilst he was on stage with the Warblers rehearsing, but unfortunately, he seemed to be taking the invitational very seriously, "okay, so let's go through the rules, we decided that there is no judges so this is really about bragging rights. But still, my guys are taking this very, very seriously so I just wanted to make sure the order is picked fairly and by fairly, I mean that we're gonna go second." He announced, turning to them with furrowed eyebrows as they tried to keep a straight face, "by the way, how's the filling of your roster coming along? Is that going okay?"
"It's an invitational so we don't have to follow the strict show choir rules." Kurt told him.
Frowning skeptically, Blaine folded his arms, "has it occurred to you guys that this could be a horrible idea for your team?"
Looking to Kurt for a bid of reassurance, Rachel bit her lip as she tried to come up with the perfect answer, "we just want to give them a sense of what to expect at sectionals. And we were just hoping that maybe you and Mr Schuester would go easy on us."
Shaking his head immediately, Blaine was instantly opposed to this idea, "oh no, no way, no, absolutely not, nobody's going easy on anybody, nope."
"Well that was just about every possible way of saying no." Katy mumbled teasingly, averting her eyes into Sam's shoulder away from Blaine's death glare.
"The Warblers are being rebuilt just like the new directions, I'm sorry, but my allegiance is with them." He told them, looking down at his phone as he continued, "and if that all sounds scary to you then you should just drop out."
"Well we don't want to-" Kurt started before being interrupted by Blaine's loud gasp.
Widening his eyes as he turned his phone to show his friends, Blaine had already started to rush out of the auditorium with his friends quickly on his tail, "it's Dave, there's an intruder in our apartment."
Pulling her hair up into a ponytail and getting out her car keys, Katy shook her head as they sprinted to the parking lot and loaded into Blaine's car, "I am ready to kick some ass. No one comes near my son and gets away with it."
"Let's kick some ass girl." Rachel agreed, holding out her hand for a fist pump, which Katy happily obliged.
After mentally preparing themselves throughout the whole car drive, the group rushed out of the car and into Blaine and Dave's apartment to find Dave Karofsky cowering on top of the table with a chair in his hands. "Dave, what's going on?" Blaine asked, immediately panicked by the sight.
"In there! In the bedroom! I thought I was gonna die!" Dave yelled, petrified as the group all ran into the bedroom, "no! Don't go in there! You're all gonna get killed!"
Blaine was first to go in, jumping back straight into everyone else as he saw a live bear cub sat, calmly on his bed. A string of confused 'oh my god's' came out of all of their mouths. Stepping forward to get a closer look, Katy threw her car keys back into her bag as she let her shoulders slump back down, "that really is a real bear cub. Blaine, why is there a bear in here?"
"Why is there a bear in here?!" Dave repeated frantically.
"I dunno why Blaine put a bear in his bedroom but get back would you? I don't want you getting eaten." Sam insisted, tentatively stepping forward to pull Katy back towards the group.
Turning to his best friends, Blaine deadpanned straight at them, "I didn't put that bear in here. Why would I put a bear in here?"
"I dunno, why would you put a bear in here?" Sam replied, widening his eyes curiously.
Rolling his eyes slightly, Blaine shook his head at their waiting expressions, ignoring their question as he let out a deep sigh, "who would put a bear in my apartment?"
Sighing through his irritation, Kurt rubbed his hands across his eyes as he worked it out, "I think I have a pretty good idea."
"I-I think I'll call animal control." Rachel
announced, walking out of the room in the hopes of not having to get any closer to the bear.
"And I'll make us all some hot chocolate." Katy said, reaching a hand out to help Dave off the table and start to calm him down after being terrified by a bear.

Katy was in the choir room on her own, playing the piano casually when Sam walked in with a massive smile on his face, "girl you sound so good!"
"John Mayer, love it." She clarified as she recognised his impression, turning round to see him walk through the door and moving up so that he could sit down next to her on the piano stool, "thanks, I was just working on my Mamma Mia medley that I started with Marley. I'm hoping that Rachel and Kurt will wanna use it for invitationals. I don't want the kids to be ABBA deprived like we were."
"Four years you asked for an ABBA week." Sam breathed out with a shake of his head.
"Four years." She repeated, "yet the week that you were in charge we did it straight away. Funny that."
Wiggling his eyebrows at her and nudging her shoulder lightly, Sam smiled confidently, "guess I must really love you."
"Or maybe you just take the time to listen to what everyone wants to do, rather than just a few people." Katy shrugged, unapologetically throwing shade at Mr Schue.
Considering this option for a moment with an exaggerative frown, Sam shook his head, "nah, I just love you. You're cool."
Looking down with a laugh, she gave him a light shove as he laid his head onto her shoulder, fluttering his eyelashes, "shut up and run this with me would you?"
Chuckling slightly, Sam picked up the sheet music as she began to play, both of them singing along together at the medley of her favourite ABBA songs that she'd made. Glancing over to her affectionately as she concentrated on playing the right notes on the piano, whilst singing the right notes, Sam let out a nervous breathe of air.
Coming to a finish, Katy turned to him with a huge beam on her face, "what do you think?" She asked excitedly.
"Amazing." He smiled honestly, before taking in another deep breathe as he took one of her hands off of the keys and into his, "listen, Katy, there's something I've been meaning to ask you-" he started before being cut off by Blaine storming into the choir room, obviously upset about something, distracting Katy immediately and causing her to spin around on her seat to listen to his rant.
"You would not believe what's just happened!" He shouted, perching himself onto the piano, too filled with his own irritation to notice Sam squeezing his eyes shut and taking a few deep breathes to stop himself from bursting.
"What? Are you okay?" Katy asked, worried about Blaine's current state.
"No, I am not okay." Blaine confirmed, running his hands through his hair in annoyance, "it turns out, that Dave and I are related."
Scrunching her face up in disgust, Katy turned to Sam, who had just managed to open up his eyes, block out his own internal screaming and start to listen to the conversation happening in front of him, "oh my god. How?"
Shaking his head, still in disbelief, Blaine spoke through a deep breathe, "We're third cousins apparently, we share a great-great grandad, Thomas Anderson."
Clearing his throat to try and support Blaine, Sam furrowed his eyebrows in confusion, "how did you find out? Why did you want to find out? Being blissfully unaware seems to always be the best option." He said, trying to hide the sarcasm in his voice towards the end.
"Sue did our genealogy charts using hair she found in our washing machine." Blaine explained, making Katy roll her eyes immediately, "seriously Blaine? You seriously believe something that Sue gave you right now?"
"Well yeah...DNA doesn't lie."
"Yeah, but Sue does. She's on a mission to get you and Kurt back together." Katy sighed, placing a kiss into Sam's temple as she stood up from the piano stool, "I'm gonna go try and talk to her, okay? I'll see you both later."
As soon as Katy was far enough down the corridor, Sam frowned deeply at Blaine, slamming the ring box down on top of the piano with a sigh of frustration, "dude." He groaned as Blaine gave him an apologetic smile.

For some reason unknown to them, Mr Schue had broken his promise to go easy on the new directions and was smirking over at an angry Rachel and Kurt as the teams watched Vocal Adrenaline do the opening numbers for invitationals.
Unfortunately, exactly what the two had tried to prevent happening, was happening. The new new directions were sat completely open mouthed in terror as they watched the performance, wondering how they'd ever compare to that. As well as that, the Warblers looked intimidated too.
Seen as Rachel and Kurt had each other for moral support, Katy snuck out of her seat and sat herself down next to Blaine, who was cowering in his chair and peeping nervously through his fingers. Patting him on the head as he pressed his forehead against her shoulder, Katy whispered gently into his ear, "Don't you worry about them, look at their hats. You have cool blazers and we have nice, simple blue costumes. As least we're not gonna have to worry about looking silly."
Muffing his voice against her shoulder, Blaine replied, "Thats true. They're scary though."
"Terrifying." Katy agreed, clapping as they finished their performance, "worse than Tina when she was in promzilla mode."
"And that was scary." Blaine agreed, finally peeling his forehead off of her shoulder and turning round to resort in laying his head against it.
Looking round to see the room was still in shock as Vocal Adrenaline cockily made their way off of the stage, Katy stood up with a clap of her hands, "alright! Who wants a free hug?" She asked, counting the many hands that shot up into the air and making sure to give a reassuring hug to each one of them after being scarred by the intimidation of Vocal Adrenaline.
