Iwazumi stared down at you, he was hurt. It pained Iwazumi to see you so upset, let alone not really knowing you, Iwazumi was infuriated that Oikawa would do such a thing to someone. Especially you, someone who didn't deserve such a thing.

"Hey hey... it's alright..." Iwazumi said trying to comfort you.  

"Don't cry.... He's a piece of shit... He isn't worth it..." he said.

You were sobbing in Iwazumi's arms as you heard him say those words, you knew you were better than this, you knew you deserved better so why? Why were you so hung over this? Whether you loved Oikawa or not was out of the question, it was a matter of why you couldn't let go. You loved Oikawa, was that it? Was it the memories? Was it jealousy? Was it the need of reassurance? What was it?

"I'm sorry Iwa.." you sniffed while pulling away.

"For what?" Iwazumi asked, keeping his hands softly gripping your arms.

"I'm sorry... I probably look so pathetic standing here crying onto you." you let out with a little laugh.

"No no no it's ok! Don't worry about it, I'm always here if you need me." Iwazumi responded.

You looked up and gave him a soft smile, those words comforted you, you needed them. You turned around and you opened the gym door to check if it was still raining, to your surprise, it wasn't. The sun hit your face so perfectly, you hair slightly moving because of the light wind,

"Was it Iwazumi that could've done this?" you thought to yourself.

Of course you knew the answer was no but, after hearing those words come out of him despite hardly even knowing him other than as 'Oikawa's best friend' made you happy. In that moment the world seemed a little brighter than before, you were just little bit happy. You turned around to face Iwazumi and he looked at you with a smile on his face.

"Well it's not raining anymore!" you said with a smile on your face.

"Finally, I thought the rain was never gonna end..." Iwazumi said.

"I know right, well, thank you for letting me cry on you, even though it was kind of embarrassing..." you said.

"Nah it's cool, that's what friends are for, right?" he told you.

"Friends..." you softly whispered,

"Friends..." you smiled.

That single word, something you didn't know you longed for, it made you happy. Your thoughts ran through your head as you thought about how you could talk to someone about anything, how you finally had someone there for you, now you would always have someone to talk to. All these things that you had wished for that were impossible when you were with Oikawa hit you, and then that hit you. Oikawa. Iwazumi was Oikawa's best friend, and because of that, wouldn't that mean you'd be seeing a lot of him too... or even... would there be any chance where you could be with Iwa as friends? Would he always be there? You were in your train of thought until Iwazumi had spoken up,

"y/n... you there?" he asked.

"Oh! Yeah, I'm here." you answered with a smile on your face.

"Okay good, I thought I weirded you out or something by saying that." he laughed nervously.

"Oh! No! I just thought about something that's all, I'm glad that we're friends." you told him.

"Nice, and since the rain stopped do you mind if we walk together, get to know each other?" Iwazumi asked.

"Oh yeah of course! Let's go!" you told him.

You and Iwazumi walked out of the gym and started talking to each other, you guys laughed and made jokes, talked about your past and the things you guys liked, played rock-paper-scissors and played truth or dare along the way home. It was nice, it was different. You were worried that on your way home you'd be flooded with memories of you and Oikawa walking home together, but they didn't, this was different, this was a friendship, and one that you wanted to keep.

"Okay okay, I don't mean to ruin our fun time but how is Oikawa going to react to this... you know... to us being friends?" you hesitantly asked Iwazumi.

"Mmm..." Iwazumi hummed,

"I mean why should he care? You guys are broken up right? I mean I'm allowed to have friends and he has a girlfriend so why should it matter to him?" he stated.

"I guess you're right... I just don't wanna ruin the friendship in any way y'know?" you told him.

"Yeah but you're not gonna ruin the friendship, if he's gonna let this get in the way of our friendship then he's a real piece of crap." he said.

You giggled at the last part of his statement.

"What's so funny?" Iwazumi asked.

"Nothing nothing, it's just I remembered that whenever I met up with Tōru he would always complain and whine to me about how you would call him all these so called mean names." you said while laughing a bit.

"Hearing it now it makes me laugh a little because it's actually quite funny hearing it." you finsihed.

"Y'know, I wonder why we never actually met even while you were dating Oikawa. It just seems weird to me, he always talked about you and mentioned you to me but I was always unbothered by what he had to say." Iwazumi stated.

"Yeah I wonder that too, its the same for me, I mean he always talked about you and told me about things you guys did but it never crossed my mind to actually meet you... Tōru-" you said until you were interrupted,

"Tōru?" Iwazumi said.

"Huh?" you asked, taking you a minute to realize what you had said.

"OH! Oh my goodness I can't believe I called him that- " you said.

"And twice." added Iwazumi.

"TWICE?!?!" you yelled.

"Yeah the first time you said it when you were referring to him complaining about the names I called him and then again." Iwazumi laughed.

"Wow...sheesh-" you said not expecting that answer.

"Yeah, sorry if it sounded mean I just don't want anyone to hear and get the wrong idea you know?' Iwazumi asked.

"Yeah, thanks for looking out for me." you replied.

You looked ahead and realized that you had entered your neighborhood without notice, although Aoba Johsai wasn't a far walk from your house the short amount of time you spent with Iwazumi felt like hours. You were happy, happy that you felt something like this, but it was different. It was no where near what you would feel with Oikawa, this was different, it was a real friendship.

"Oh! We're just about to reach my house, sorry, I didn't realize we were already here and I don't know how far you live either so sorry if it's a long way..." you told Iwazumi.

"It's alright don't worry about it, I'm glad we got to know each other a little bit, I'll see you at school tomorrow y/n." Iwazumi said while placing his hand on your head.

"Thanks Iwa, me too, see you at school." you replied.

You both said your goodbyes and parted your ways, you didn't even notice how much you were smiling. You were so happy with the fact that you found a friend, although he was best friends with your ex you didn't care, you were happy and grateful with the fact that Iwazumi was your friend now. You walked into your house, took off your shoes, and went to your room. You sat down and did your homework and after that you ate, went on your phone and social medias, and when the day was finally over you went to sleep. Sleeping happy that you found a friend,

"Maybe breaking up with Oikawa wasn't completely terrible after all." you thought,

"Oh who am I kidding it WAS TERRIBLE. IT WAS THE MOST MISERABLE THING OF MY LIFE AND IM STILL SAD ABOUT IT." you yelled right after it.

"Ugh, at least I have Iwazumi now." you said, and with that you drifted off to sleep waiting for the next morning.
