Despite going to sleep at a proper time, Cherry feels like she was hit by a semi-truck. She rubs her eyes roughly as she awakens. She forces her eyes to open despite the harsh lighting. She grabs the blankets, pulling them off her, before sitting on the bed. She looks over and sees Sean sleeping soundly on the floor. She smiles softly at him, admiring how soft his features are in his sleep. The bit of drool coming out of his mouth makes her bite back a laugh. The fastening of her heart makes her look away, and she isn't sure why. Her attention turns to the end table, spotting Daniel's Etch-a-Sketch. In his scraggly handwriting, he wrote on it, 'I AM AT THE NEIGHBORS.'

"Oh fuck!" she groans, finally noticing Daniel's absence. She grabs her jeans off the floor and steps over Sean, tripping and stubbing her toe in the process. "Shit! Shit! Fuck you fucker!" she exclaims, leaning against the wall while waiting for the pain to subside. Her pain seems to have awakened Sean, who lets out a yawn, his eyes slowly opening.

"What happened?" He sits up, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.

"Daniel went to the neighbor's house," she says, rubbing the pain away in her toe.

"Shit. He never listens!" he sighs. He grabs his jeans before tossing his blanket off him. "Where's Claire and Stephen?"

"It's Sunday. So church, I'm guessing." He looks up at her, watching as she pulls her jeans on as well.

"Good, we got a few hours to ourselves." He watches her eyes widen a bit at his sly words, and he tries to bite back a smile. "Let's get Daniel first." He passes her his hoodie before leaving the room. She takes a moment to follow him, pulling the hoodie over her head before the two walk out of the house and towards the neighbors.

"Do you think I'm too soft on him?" he questions aloud, glancing at Cherry. She stares at their feet, watching how they drag through the snow.

"No. I'm pretty sure I'm the good cop, and you're the bad cop here."

"I just wonder if we're doing this right." He watches her open and close her mouth, giving herself a moment to think.

"I think you're doing the best you can, and you know that. You're doing good." She pauses before adding, "Besides, I'd tell you if you weren't."

"You know you do just as much as I do, you know that?" He bumps his shoulder against her's gently. She tries to bite back a smile. "I'm serious. You've helped me a lot."

"Not really." Before he's able to respond, they're at the front door. She twists the doorknob, finding it unlocked. She walks in slowly, Sean right behind her. The two take a moment to take in the scene before them; Chris is 'levitating' his toys while Daniel watches. Cherry can only sigh in annoyance while Sean moves to speak.

"Daniel?!" The toys drop to the ground immediately. "What is going on here?!"

"Sean! Wait, don't freak out. I can explain!"

"Wait! Let me tell him," Chris says. Cherry hides her face behind her hand, a tired sigh escaping her lips. "Guys, I know it sounds crazy, but... I have a superpower." The teens look at each otherβ€”Sean with a look of annoyance and Cherry with a look of questionable confusionβ€”before looking back at the boys. "You saw me yesterday. I know you did. I was flying! I can move things, objects, with my mind!"

Both of the teens' expressions turn into tired disappointment, which Daniel tries to ignore by looking anywhere but them.

"A superpower. Really?" The sarcasm drips from Sean's words.

"Yes!"

"Great. And you don't realize what that implies? Everyone can see you from the outside!"

"You could get in real trouble," Cherry adds on. "Your dad could get in big trouble too. This is dangerous. You understand?"

"Yes!" Daniel exclaims. "We hear you. We promise to be careful."

"This our secret, okay? Nobody can find out that I'm the real Captain Spirit!"

"And nobody will... ever," Sean promises, staring daggers at his brother.

"Now you're an official member of the Spirit Squad!" Chris cheers. "Oh, we need a team signal!"

"Totally! I'm going to be Superwolf! What are your super names?" The two look over at Sean and Cherry. Sean gives her a quick glance, her expression still covered in annoyance. So, he instead answers for her.

"How about... we'll be the Gold and Silver Runners. Pretty cool, right?" She gives him a glance before letting out a breath. She forces her shoulders to relax.

"Not bad! That's true; you're a great runner. Can you run fast, Cherry?" Despite her annoyance, she places a smile on her lips.

"I was pretty fast in soccer, mi amor," she shrugs. The sound of a door opening gains everyone's attention, seeing Chris' dad walk out of the bathroom.

"Okay, guys, I think we're ready to roll-" His words stop, spotting Cherry and Sean. "Uh, excuse me. Who are you two?" Cherry raises a brow at him, wondering how far gone he was yesterday.

"I'm Sean, and this is Cherry." The man's expression eases.

"Oh, yeah. Sorry, man, you're here for Daniel, I'm guessing. Hey, let's make this official. I'm Charles Eriksen."

"Nice to meet you," he says, Cherry giving Charles a small wave.

"Hope you know that Daniel and Chris are a dangerous team... We'd better watch out, or they're going to take over the world."

"Yeah. They share a lot of things."

"They're as thick as thieves," Cher adds.

"Can we go get the Christmas tree now? We're both ready to fly!" Chris grins.

Yes, yes, yes. The team has been waiting too long!" Charles looks over at the teens, his lighting up with an idea. "You should come along, too. There's nothing going on over here." Daniel's face fills with glee immediately.

"Yes! I can't wait to see all the decorations! And Sean, we could buy Christmas presents for Grandma and Grandpa!" The teens look at each other, Cherry giving him a shrug.

"It's your call, Sean-y." He can hear the tiredness in her voice. And the look on Daniel and Chris' faces makes him sigh in defeat.

"Okay. Sure, we'll go with you guys." The two boys shout with glee, excitedly talking about all they'll do. The two teens give each other a look, and all Cherry can do is shake her head in defeat.

"Okay, team. Give me some time to clean out the backseat. I'll honk when I'm done."

The drive to the Christmas Market is short, but the breeze is to die for. Cherry sits in the back of the truck with Daniel and Chris, the two talking about whatever boys talked about. It left Cherry admiring the town while the breeze almost lulled her to sleep. Her eyes nearly shut completely until Charles soothes the car to a halt. She has to bite back the yawn as Charles and Sean get out of the truck.

"Okay, buddy. You ready?" Charles asks, lifting Chris out of the truck bed.

"Yeah!"

Sean moves to help Cherry, giving her a hand as she leaps out the back as well. He places a hand on her hip to steady her before letting go. He's too distracted helping Daniel to notice the confused and bashful look on her face. He holds on to Daniel's arm before saying, "You guys go ahead and we'll come back to meet you, okay? Diaz meeting!"

"Sure. Don't get lost," Charles says, leading Chris away before Daniel can get a word out.

"You want me to leave too?" Cherry asks. Sean shakes his head before turning to Daniel.

"Dude, what the fuck are you doing? How many times do we have to keep going over the rules?"

"'Don't show the power,' I know. But Chris thinks he can do all this cool stuff. I wish he could... I miss having friends, Sean."

"He could get hurt, though, mi amor." She kneels down beside him. "What if he tries to help you, and he gets hurt because of it?"

"I'll protect him."

"And if you're not there?" Her words make him go quiet, a solemn look on his face.

"She's right, enano," Sean says, kneeling just as Cherry did. "You can't lie to friends about something like this. He could get hurt."

"So you want me to tell him the truth?"

"Well, I don't want you to lie anymore. You don't have to tell him everything, but don't let him think he has magic powers, okay?" Daniel nods his head. "You swear?"

"Okay, I swear," he sighs in annoyance.

"Okay. We're counting on you, enano."

"Can I go see Chris now?" The teens roll their eyes before standing up.

"Yeah, let's go. But don't forget what we said." Daniel runs off to find Chris, leaving the two walking through the aisles of trees. Cherry grins happily, running her fingers over each tree they pass. "Never had a real tree?" Sean asks. She looks over at him, confused, before looking back at her hand.

"No," she shakes her head. "We always had a fake one. We had one real tree when I was a kid, but Mama was allergic to it. So we threw it out and just bought a fake one," she shrugs.

"Damn, that sucks."

"Not really. It was easy to put up. There weren't any bugs hiding in the tree. Cheaper too, I guess," she shrugs. The two pause at the end of the aisle, Cherry thinking up a question to fill in the silence. "You ever wonder what happened back home since we left?"

"Almost every night," he sighs. He pushes his hair from his face but it falls back in place. "I wish I called Lyla."

"I know. But cops can trace that." His face scrunches in doubt.

"How do you know that?"

"Law and Order." His face deadpans immediately. "What? It's probably accurate. Besides, it's better to be safe than sorry."

"You're stupid."

"Says the one who needed help in history class."

"It was one time."

"You cheated on a test."

"You didn't have to help me!"

"And be seen as an asshole? No, thank you, Sean-y boy." She elbows him gently. "Let's get your little brother a gift, yeah?" She doesn't give him a chance to answer. Grabbing his hand gently, she pulls him over to a stand where the man greets them, but Cherry is a bit distracted by her thoughts to say anything other than a simple hello. Her mind is distracted by how soft his hand feels in her own. While he talks to the vendor, she admires her hand in his, rubbing her thumb over the back of his. And then, her brain finally catches up with her actions, and she acknowledges how absurd she's acting and thinking. She turns her attention to the vendor, hoping the blush on her face is too obvious.

"Trying to get something for your girl, eh?" she hears as she tunes back into the conversation. She feels her eyes widen, and it takes every fiber in her not to look at Sean's reaction. She lets go of Sean's hand to point over her shoulder at Daniel and Chris running around the market.

"His brother, actually," she says, a weary smile on her face. Despite the look of embarrassment on the vendor's face, she's positive the looks on her and Sean's faces are ten times worse.
