WE'RE BESTIES NOW AND THIS IS DEFINITELY A BAD IDEA!
MR SCHUESTER WAS WORRIED THAT THE GLEE CLUB HAD STOPPED CARING. Once he'd told them their competition for Sectionals and noticed how laid back they'd become in rehearsals, he knew he'd have to find an assignment to bring their motivation back.
Standing at the front of the choir room, Mr Schue had prepared a pin board with photos of different things that he had felt were connected through the means of competition. Pointing at it enthusiastically, Mr Schue wasn't at all surprised to see that the glee club didn't share his enthusiasm, "competition." He began, "every one of these people or elements was a champion in their own right. But they used competing with each other to make themselves better."
Knitting his eyebrows together, Kurt stared at the board, "I don't understand how lightning is in competition with an above-ground swimming pool."
"Just go with it." Mr Schue waved it off, "you guys have become complacent. You were great at the Invitational, but you gotta up your game if you wanna get through Sectionals." Clapping his hands together he made a start on the assignment in hand, "okay split up, guys on the left side, girls on the right side."
Slowly, the group began to split into the two groups asked. Looking around, Penny was surprised when Brittany instantly locked arms with her instead of Santana and pulled her over towards the girls group. Scowling at the girl discreetly, Santana made sure to move in closer towards Brittany and link her arm into hers as well before whipping her head back round with a flick of her ponytail. Unknowing to the scowl her best friend was giving her brand new friend, Brittany's smile just grew larger as she had two friends on her arm.
Growing uncomfortable as he hovered between both teams, Kurt took sight of the welcoming glances from the girls as they tried to entice him over to join them whilst the guys looked less bothered. Finally shuffling towards the girls team, he was stopped by Mr Schue and sent back over to stand awkwardly next to Mike, who had quickly given him a small smile in the hopes of making feel more comfortable and welcomed to their team.
"Here's the deal: two teams, boys versus girls, you will each perform a mash up of your choice." Seeing Puck go to speak with a frown of confusion on his face, he explained, "a mash up is when you take two songs and mash them together to make an even richer explosion of musical expression. Boys will perform on Tuesday, girls the next day. I want you guys to go all out, okay? Costumes, choreography... whoever wins the competition gets to choose our number for Sectionals."
Almost the second Mr Schue had stopped talking, Rachel's hand flew up into the air, almost taking Penny's eye out in the process, "wait... who's gonna judge the competition? Your gender makes you biased."
"There is going to be a celebrity judge." Mr Schue announced, hearing the hushed, excited whisperers go round, he quietened them, "you'll have to show up to find out who it is."
"It's probably April Rhodes again." Penny whispered to herself mostly, "I highly doubt he knows any celebrities."
Before they all knew it, the girls had begun to charge out of the choir room, Rachel marching out into the front, already shouting out her ideas for the rest of the girls to hear, whilst the guys stayed in the choir room, looking a whole lot less bothered.

FROM THE RATHER STRANGE GREETINGS SHE'D HAD, PENNY KNEW SOMETHING WAS DEFINITELY UP. Furrowing her eyebrows together as she watched Matt and Mike hurtle down the halls towards her, she swiftly slid to the side before they could collide into her completely. Tripping over her own foot, she had found herself falling straight back onto her butt.
As Matt bent down to offer her a hand up, Mike took the opportunity to catch up, sailing right into him and sending him flying out of the way, to offer his help instead. Grabbing both of her hands, Mike yanked her to her feet so effortlessly that Penny was left utterly speechless, "sorry Penny! Love you Penny!" He yelled before jumping onto Matt's back and zooming into the choir room whilst waving frantically.
"I love you too Mike." Penelope called after him awkwardly, blinking a few times and shaking her head out of pure confusion. Those two were weird but not that weird.
Things only got weirder when Puck collided into her next, wrapping an arm around her shoulder. Tensing up, Penny braced herself for a slushy, or worse, to be tossed into her face, seen as that was all she'd known from interactions with Noah Puckerman but instead, he gave her an enthusiastic shake of the shoulders, offering her a hand to shake in his, "Penelope! How's your day going?"
"Oh just fabulous." Penelope returned blankly, her voice laced with sarcasm as she cautiously took his hand, widening her eyes in a slightly awkward fear as to how quickly he was shaking her hang up and down.
Picking up on this, he laughed and poked her playfully in the side, "sarcasm. I like you."
"I don't like you." Penny muttered through gritted teeth, very unsure of what was happening in Mckinley that day and having to pinch herself just in case she was stuck in some sort of nightmare.
"Huh... sarcasm again. We're besties now." Puck concluded, getting the wrong end of the stick, ruffling her hair before running off into the choir room just as Matt and Mike had done.
Left with her mouth hung open, Penelope was grateful for the sight of Finn striding towards her, letting out a sigh of relief as she quickened her pace to be able to go into the choir room by his side, "Finn, you're friends are being weird. Puck called me his bestie and I'm scared."
"You should be scared!" Finn replied, loudly, jabbing a finger her way, "we're gonna destroy you in the competition. Have you seen these leather jackets? Cool as hell."
With Finn flapping the sides of his leather jacket right at her, Penny was even more confused, stumbling as Finn grabbed onto her hand and pulled her into the choir room, spinning her around so she crashed straight into Mercedes' side.
"What the hell is wrong with them?" Mercedes whispered, knitting her eyebrows together as Penny adjusted herself on her stool to lean in towards her and Tina.
Placing a hand over her heart, Penny let out a sigh of relief, "this isn't all just me going crazy? I've been bombarded by four of them already. I'm too tired for this."
Chuckling lightly as they nodded in agreement, Tina and Mercedes went to reply but the three of them were completely startled by the music for the guys performance starting up with no warning at all. Turning to the front, their eyes widened in surprise at the different facial expressions, full of energy as they danced and sang.

Mouth's gaping in surprise, the applause for the extremely energetic performance from the boys was delayed. Finally, Penelope managed to shake off her surprise and whooped in applause, whilst all that was on the other girls minds was that they regretted ever deciding to wing it.

AFTER A TALK WITH RACHEL, QUINN HAD DECIDED TO RETURN TO GLEE CLUB REHEARSALS. Smiling at her down the hall, Penny waited for her to catch up as they both made their way to the nurses office on Rachel's urgent command.
Since Penny had found out about the baby, her and Quinn had surprisingly become quite good friends, finding themselves sitting next to one another in class or hanging out just the two of them. It had felt weirder to Penny that it had to Quinn, being used to having a slushy tossed into her face at least once a day she'd never expected to have the Queen Bee happily walk besides her down the halls.
"So... you think Berry's gonna make us take these drugs?" Quinn asked, springing into conversation.
"Knowing her, probably." Penny replied with a light roll of her eyes, "she most likely wants to even up the playing field. We're gonna go insane. You didn't see how the guys were it was terrifying. Matt and Mike ran into me, Artie ran over my foot — twice — and Puck called me his bestie. Traumatised."
Scrunching up her nose, Quinn let out a small laugh as Penny's eyes widened at the memory, "I don't know if I'm glad I missed that or not. Sounds kinda entertaining."
"I just hope we don't get that insane." Penny sighed out, "I can barely hold down a drink who knows what those drugs could do to me."
Taking her hand to give it a quick squeeze, Quinn threw her a grin, "I'll keep an eye on you. Don't worry. As long as you keep an eye on me."
Grinning back at her, Penny nodded, "of course." Growing awkward, she shrugged, "you know... I'm glad you're back in glee, I missed having you around."
"It's nice to know I was missed." Quinn returned quietly, turning to face Penny with a genuine smile, beginning to wonder that if she would be missed the same way if Coach Sue found out about her pregnancy and kicked her off the Cheerios.
Turning into the nurses office, the pair exchanged a glance as they saw Terri Schuester waiting for them as the girls lined up, handing them each a cup of pills and water.
At this point, Rachel seemed to be the only one getting cold feet, despite it all being her idea in the first place, "are you sure this is safe?"
'Typical,' Penny thought to herself.
"Oh it's over-the-counter, it's safe. You can trust me. I'm a nurse." Mrs Schuester waved off her concern.
Shrugging, Penny clinked her cup with Quinn's muttering, "this is definitely a bad idea." Before swallowing the pills.

PENNY'S SMILE WAS PLASTERED ONTO HER FACE AS THE GIRLS PREPARED TO SING THEIR MASHUP. After taking their pills, the girls were buzzing to perform, bouncing all over the place and smiling from ear to ear.
Finally managing to have all the girls stood up in their starting positions at once, Mr Schue gave them the signal to start.
Standing straight up at the front, Rachel took it upon herself to introduce the number, talking unbelievably quickly, "thank you all so much, it really is a pleasure. Whilst the boys chose songs that cast an eye inwards on the irresponsible life choices and sexual hunger of today's modern teens... we have chosen a selection of songs that speaks to the nation as a whole during these troubling times of economic uncertainty and unbridled social woe. Because if there's two things that America needs right now is sunshine and optimism... and angels."

ONCE MR SCHUE HAD FOUND OUT ABOUT THE GLEE CLUB USING DRUGS, THEY WERE IN DEEP TROUBLE. As he stood in front of the group with his arms crossed over his chest, the glee club stared at the floor filled with guilt.
"We're really sorry Mr Schue, we didn't mean to get you into trouble." Rachel said quietly, feeling especially guilty seen as she was the one who had confessed.
"I'm really disappointed in you guys." Mr Schue told them, irritated, "glee is supposed to be about what's inside your heart, not what's coursing through your veins."
Stepping forward, Rachel took control of the apology, "we know. And I think I speak for everybody when I say that we'd be happy to move forwards and put this whole episode behind us."
"Well it's not that simple." Mr Schue sighed out, looking round the room of regretful faces, "because of this debacle it's been decided that I am no longer fit to run glee club on my own. We've been assigned a co-director."
"Who?" Tina asked on behalf of the room.
At the sound of a familiar voice, the glee club whipped round to stare at the choir room door, where Sue Sylvester came waltzing in with a devilish grin slapped onto her face, "hey kids!" She exclaimed, clearly mocking them and Mr Schue, "I gotta tell you, I'm just thrilled to be coming on board to co-captain your little showbiz cruise. I can't wait to start singing and dancing and maybe even putting on the ritz a little bit."
Glancing amongst each other with horrified expressions, the glee club knew from her face that this wasn't going to end well.
