"Hey Verno wheres the radio? Let's see if we can get some sounds" Chris says getting up from Sarah's legs

"Here!" Vern says passing him the radio

Then "come softly to me" by the fleet woods started playing

They all led down in their sleeping bags

They had a long talk about things that seemed important but they really weren't

"Alright alright! Mickey's a mouse Donalds a duck! Pluto's a dog... What's goofy?" Gordie asked

"If I could only have one food for the rest of my life? That's easy! Cherry Pez no question about it" Vern says

"Goofy's a dog! He's definitely a dog!" Teddy  explains

"I knew the $64,000 question was fixed there's no way anybody can know that much about opera!" Katie explains to Sarah

"He can't be dog! He wears a hat and drives a car!" Chris says

"Wagon trains is a really good show but... Did you ever notice they never get anywhere?" Gordie explains

"God that's weird what is goofy?" Sarah asked

None of them mentioned Ray Brower although it was definitely on their minds

They all slept until they heard a howl

"what the hell was that" Katie said rubbing her eyes

"I haven't got a clue..." Chris says

"it's that Brower kid! His ghosts out walking in the woods!" Teddy shouted

"Shut up teddy!" Katie said punching him in the shoulder

Then it howled again

"I promise I won't say no more bad words! I promise to eat my lima beans!" Vern cried

Then Teddy tapped him on the shoulder causing him to flinch

"Ah!" Vern shouted

"Two for flinching!" Teddy said punching Vern on the arm

"Teddy you asshole you gotta stop doing that," Katie said pulling teddy away from Vern

Then it howled again

"ARROO!" the wolf howled

"What is it, Chris..." Gordie asked standing up

"Maybe it's coyotes!" Sarah shouted

"It sounds like a woman screaming," Gordie says

"Gordie no it doesn't I bet it's wolves!" Katie exclaimed

"Its not coyotes it's his ghost" Teddy whispered into Vern's ear

"Teddy I heard that! And he's not dead!" Sarah shouted

"Yeah whatever you say doll," Teddy said patting Sarah on the back

"I'm gonna go look!" Teddy says standing up

Then it howled again

"AROOOOO"

Then all of the teenagers scrambled back to the ground huddling together

Chris held his gun above his head preparing to pull the trigger

"Maybe we should stand guard" Vern suggested

"Yeah, that's a good idea!" Katie says getting up

"Katie sit down you're not standing guard" Gordie explained pulling Katie down by her arm

"Think I can't fend for myself!" she shouted crossing her arms

"Give me the gun il do it first!" Teddy says grabbing the gun

Small time skip
Teddy stood leaning against a tree

"2300 hours corporal Teddy Duchamp stands guard. No signs of the enemy. The fort is secure" Teddy said

"Shut up teddy and keep your eyes peeled" Chris shouted

Then teddy pretended to play the trumpet with his mouth by humming

"Teddy cut it out," Sarah said

"Hey I'm trying to sleep!" Gordie shouted

Then Teddy just sighed and said
"The dogfaces rested easy in the knowledge that corporal Teddy Duchamp was protecting both thy fair maidens Katie Merrill and Sarah Brower"

"Shut up teddy before I get up there and make you!" Katie shouted shoving her head into the pillow she brought with her

Then after a while, Teddy turn finished and it was Vern's turn

Then a few moments after that it was Chris's turn he just sat around the campfire Katie was also awake

Then gordie kept on making these noises

"Ah ooh no!"

"Is he okay...?" Katie asked slowly

"Probably just a nightmare" Chris explained

"Yeah..." Katie said starring at gordie
"He looks so peaceful" Katie added on

In gordies dream
Gordie's family surrounded a coffin

It was his brothers
They watched the coffin go into the ground

Then his father placed his hand on his shoulder
"It should have been you Gordon" his dad said

Out of dream
"Ah!" Gordie shouted

"Jeez you okay Gordie?" Katie asked scrambling over to him

"huh?" he asked

"you were dreaming" Katie said pulling him into a hug

"I didn't cry at Denny's funeral" Gordie explained

"I miss him guys..." Gordie said in a sad tone

"I really miss him..."

"I know..." Katie and Chris said

"Go back to sleep," Chris said standing up followed by Katie and then Gordie

He sat by the tree but he didn't look happy like he usually did

"You alright buddy?" Katie asks wrapping her arm around his shoulder

Chris was squished between Katie and gordie on either side of him

He just sat there silently

"Maybe you could go into college courses with me Katie and Sarah" gordie suggested

"Oh that'll be the day," Chris says

"Why not your smart enough," Katie said

"They won't let me" Chris explained

"What do you mean...?" Katie asked

"It is the way people think of my family in this town the way they think of me. I'm just one of those lowlife chambers kids" Chris said

"Thats not true..." Katie said resting her head on his shoulder

"Oh it is!" Chris said
"No one even asked me if I took the milk money I just got a three-day vacation"

"Did you take it...?" Katie and gordie asked curiously

"Yeah, I took it! You knew I took it gordie. Teddy knew I took it. God Vern probably knows I took it... Maybe I was sorry and tried to take it back" Chris said

"You tried to give it back?" gordie asked curiously

"Maybe just maybe... Maybe I took it to old lady Simon's and the money was all there... But I still got a three-day vacation and maybe the next week old lady Simon's had this brand new skirt on when she came to school" Chris said

"Yeah!! It was brown and had dots on it!" gordie explained to Katie

"Maybe I stoke the milk money but old lady Simon's stole it back from me! Just suppose that I told the story me, kid brother to eyeball chambers you think that anyone would have believed?" Chris asked

"No..." Katie and gordie said slowly

"Would that have dared tried to get the money back if someone from the view had taken it?" Chris asked

"No way!" gordie said
"Hell no!" Katie said

"But with me... Well... I'm sure she had her eyes on that skirt for a long time any way she saw her chance and she took it... I was stupid for even trying to give it back..." Chris said breaking into tears

"I just never thought...i never thought that the teacher... Oh who gives a fuck anyways!" Chris shouted in-between tears

"I just wish...that j could go someplace where nobody knows me..." Chris said crying

"Chris... Don't cry..." Katie said wrapping him and gordie in a hug

"I just I'm just a pussy huh?" Chris asked still crying

"No way... Your Chris chambers for Christ sake..." Katie said

Time skip
It was early in the morning the sun was rising

Gordie sat on the train tracks reading

Then a deer came out from the bushes

Gordie just watched from afar
And sat silently

Then it starred right at him making him crack a small smile

Then it ran off

Another small time skip
The train went past

That woke up the rest of the teenagers

Gordie didn't tell any of them about the deer

He just kept it to himself

Then it was time for them to set off again
