“Huh? Where's Kenma?
He's not here?”

Kuroo couldn't help but chuckle
at the small tangerine boy's visible
upset about Kenma's absence.

“He's over there, he's only a guest
watching from the tribune today.”

And it was pretty obvious that
the blonde was not very happy
about it judging by the annoyed
pout on his face.

It wasn't that he'd rather be
down on the bench on the court
instead, it was more that he didn't like
being in a mass of loud strangers.

He wanted to be near his boyfriend.

“I'll go say hi!
We still have some time, right?”

Hinata turned to Daichi with
hopeful eyes and smiled widely
when the captain nodded.

“Be back in ten minutes though
so we can start with warmup.”

“Oi, Hinata.”

“Hm?”

“Tell Kenma to cheer well for us,
okay?”

Kuroo gave the younger boy a
grin and a thumbs up, making
Hinata return the grin.

“Will do!”

“Kenma!”

“Shouyou?”

The blonde looked up with big,
surprised eyes, hands drawing
gentle circles on his baby bump.

Stupid false contractions.

“You look.. Very pregnant?”

“Well.. I am very pregnant.”

Kenma chuckled softly at his
friend's words as he looked down
at his tummy with rosy cheeks.

“Does that mean I can meet
the baby while we're in Tokyo?”

“I don't know. My due date is
in two days but who knows if
baby will stick to the plan.
Plus..
You need to win today to stay.”

“Right! We'll fight hard so we stay
at least until your baby is here!
When Natsu was born, she was
so tiny and cute! I bet your baby
will be very cute too.”

“Cute, yes.
Tiny? Probably not.”

Hinata tilted his head in
confusion at his friend's words,
making Kenma chuckle.

“What did you expect from
someone who's fifty percent Kuroo?”

“Ah, right.
Your child is so lucky,
I'm jealous. They're going to

be the perfect volleyball player.”

“Let's see about that.”

The blonde's gaze was fixed
on the court, watching his
boyfriend warm up.

They'd win this easily,
he had no doubt about that.

The team had worked hard the
past months to function well together
even without Kenma as their setter.

Of course it had been difficult
to adjust at first and it obviously
wasn't the same without their
brain with them on the court.

But they were strong together,
with or without him.

“I have to go back to my team now,
we'll start with warmup too.
Kuroo wanted me to tell you
to cheer well for them!
And cheer for us too, yeah?
See you later!”

“See you.”

Kenma waved shortly at his friend. before Hinata disappeared.

Of course he'd cheer for them,
at least quietly like he preferred it.

What else could he do?

A soft grunt escaped him when
he suddenly felt the muscles in
his belly start to tense again,
making his baby shift in uneasiness.

Only two more days.

And lately Kenma wondered
if his mini human would actually
be patient enough to wait
two more days.

The braxton hicks contractions
have been much stronger and
more often the past two days.

Kuroo had stayed over for the
night the past three days too,
providing as much comfort and
reassurance whenever his boy
woke up because of another
contraction but starting from
today on Kenma would have
to sleep alone again.

The team was staying in a
nearby hotel close to the
gymnasium while the blonde
had to take the train back
home eventually.

Tetsuro wouldn't be there tonight
to hold his hand when another
contraction would make
him whimper.

“If you really want out,
please choose a time where
your dad is actually available.”

The blonde whispered as he closed
his eyes and tried to breathe through
the pain when another contraction
began to build up.

The next few days were surely
going to be interesting.

“God damn it, Kuroo!
If you keep tossing and turning
like this, no one of us will be
able to fall asleep.
Apart from Lev, obviously..”

Yaku grunted in annoyance,
getting hums of approval from
the rest of the team and a
bear-like snore from Lev.

“I'm sorry, it's just difficult to fall
asleep.. without Kenma by my side.”

“Jeez, spare us with the details,
will ya?”

“It's not like that! It's just..
He's been having contractions
the past days, at night too.
I want to be there for him..”

“Does that mean he's having
the baby now?”

Inuoka butts in, exhaustion
overweighting the curiosity
in his voice.

“No uh.. Not actually?
I dunno. He said they're just
exercise contractions for his body.
Not the real deal.”

“But how does he know?”

Kuroo sighed softly as he closed
his eyes and rubbed his face
with his hand.

“I don't know.
He knows his body the best, right?
And if he says it's just these braxton
hicks contractions, I believe him.
And still..”

“You're worried.”

“Mhm.”

“The you should text him.
Or call him. Just to make sure
he's okay. I bet he's going to
say something like
‘Kuroo? It's late, why are you not
sleeping? Your kiddo and I were
currently dreaming of Nekoma's
next win tomorrow but if you're
not resting properly, you're going
to crush our dream!’ and then
just end the call.”

“Yeah, sounds totally
like Kenma, Yamamoto.”

And Kuroo couldn't stop himself
from smiling a bit when he heard

his teammates continue
to bicker quietly.

Maybe they were right.

He should just text his boyfriend,
maybe call him if he's still awake.

Maybe all his worries were totally
unreasonable and Kenma was
currently sleeping like a baby,
cuddling his cat plushie and
dreaming of hunting butterflies
in Animal crossing.

The ravenette sighed as he got
up and grabbed his phone so he
could go downstairs to talk to
his boyfriend instead of
disturbing his teammates.

‘Hey kitten, you sleeping already?’

‘Not yet, contractions again..’

‘Wanna call?’

It didn't even take ten seconds
for Kenma's profile picture to
appear on the older's phone screen,
indicating an incoming call.

“Hi kitten.
I'm sorry I can't be with you.”

Kuroo's voice was laced with
worry and Kenma wished he could
say anything to ease the older's
mind but instead he could only
whimper in his phone at the pain
in his lower back and belly.

“Are you sure they're still braxton
hicks contractions?
They seem pretty strong.
And you're due in two days.”

But Kenma only shook his head
softly before he realized that his
boyfriend couldn't see him.

“N-no, they're just exercise
contractions, really. Not all of
them are so strong, really.”

“Okay, if you say so.
How's baby doing?”

“Very quiet,
they're hating this too.”

The blonde pouted as he looked
down at his baby bump and ran
his hand over it, as expected not
getting a reaction from his
child in return.

“Hm, I can imagine.
I wish I could be with
you right now.”

“Me too..”

Kenma sighed as he laid back
down and pulled his cat plushie
to his chest to hug it tightly.

“Can you talk to me
until I fall asleep?”

“Of course, kitten. So..
Did you know Lev snores like a bear?
And of course he fell asleep first too.”

“Hm, that's bad..”

Kuroo couldn't help but smile
when his boyfriend sounded
visibly sleepier.

“Yeah. And I'm pretty sure
one of the guys sleep talks.
This is going to be an interesting
night. I hope we'll all get enough
rest to play well tomorrow.
You're going to be there in the
morning for the first game, right?”

But Kenma only hummed softly.

He had already fallen asleep.

And Kuroo couldn't blame him,
the day had been very exhausting
for him too.
