"...On my pillow
Can't get me tired..."
~
You yawn as the sun shines on your closed eyes. You ignore the morning light and cuddle more into your blankets. Just before falling into a deep sleep, you sense someone jumping on your bed, making you groan.
"Jiejie! Jiejie! Wake up! Wake up!" You groan at the screeching voice of your little sister, Mingmei.
You open your eyes and watch the large grin on your sisters face form. You gently but quickly grab her and give her a tight hug. She laughs at your unexpected antics.
"Ama made breakfast, so get ready," she runs out of your room taking your wallet with her. You widen your eyes and shout at her.
"Hey, bring my wallet back!" Mingmei stops and turns to you with a cheeky smile.
"I need it."
"Why?"
"Well...I need to bribe ama to allow me to stay home," she pouts. You gesture for her to walk towards you, which she does slowly.
"You're only nine, and you are resorting to criminal activities," you click your tongue at her. Taking your wallet from her, you point to the door of your room. Mingmei begrudgingly leaves your room.
You glance around your room and release a breath.
You get dressed and look in the mirror to make sure you look presentable for the day.
Entering the kitchen, the delicious smell of your mother's home cooking fills your nose.
"Look who is ready to join us," your mother chuckles finally. You look around the dinner table.
Mingmei is pouting with crossed arms. Your mother smiles at you and places breakfast dishes on the table.
You are about to take a seat, but the sound of a doorbell stops you. Your mother nods at you to answer the door.
Opening the door, you are immediately wrapped in a hug. It's Liu Mei, your best friend.
"What is that yummy smell?" She exaggeratingly sniffs her nose and walks in before you can say something.
"Yes, please do enter," you mumble as you close the door. You enter the kitchen and shake your head at Liu Mei, who is speaking to your mother.
Things never change.
"Mrs. Suelgi, did I mention that your cooking is the best homemade cooking," Mei smiles wide at your mother.
"Such sweet words, why don't you join us?" You lift your eyebrows.
"Ama, if you let Liu Mei join us, she will finish all our breakfast," Liu Mei glares at you and you respond with a shrug while taking your seat beside Mingmei, who is still frowning. You pinch her cheek.
She swats your hand away and continues frowning.
"Mingmei it's not ladylike to frown at the table, now eat your breakfast," your mother gives her a stern look. Slightly she dishes up her a dumpling with a pout still hanging on her lips.
"Why are you frowning in any case?" Liu Mei glances at Mingmei while dishing up for herself.
"I don't want to go to school today," she grumbles. You shake your head at your sister.
"When do you want to go to school?" You ask her sarcastically with a laugh, knowing that Mingmei despises going to school.
A sound of notification goes off. Liu Mei apologetically looks at your mother and quickly takes out her phone. Her eyes widen, and she jumps up in excitement and squeals.
"A new episode posted on Run BTS!" Your mother jerks her head towards Liu Mei.
"Let me see that," your mother looks at Liu Mei's phone and fans herself at what she is looking at. Your sister gasps and hurries over to Liu Mei to look at her phone as well. You carry on eating, groaning as everyone at the table begins fangirling.
"My mother is a child trapped in a woman's body."
"Wait, I just realized I forgot something." Liu Mei runs out of the kitchen, out of the house, and a moment later brings in a big brown box. She places it on the floor and opens it.
You curiously watch her as she takes out a pink bag and gives it to Mingmei. You take a closer look at it.
Of course.
Too shocked for words, Mingmei hugs the bag and continuously thanks Liu Mei, who gently pats her head.
"I feel closer to J-Hope already." She sighs dreamily.
"A fellow J-Hope stan needs to have some merch."
Liu Mei takes out a t-shirt and hands it to you. You open the t-shirt and scrunch your nose.
"Why would you give me this? Do you think I would willingly walk around with a t-shirt that has a boy's face on it?" You aren't a BTS fan.
"Oh, give me that you Anti," your mother grabs the t-shirt from your hand, shaking her head disappointingly at you but smiling as soon as she looks at the t-shirt.
"Don't be trapped in someone else's dream, what soulful words," your mother dreamily gazes at the picture.
"I'm not a hater, and I don't get why you are all so into these boys. Did they stop global warming with their music?" Mingmei, Liu Mei, and your mother turn their heads toward you in sync. You eat your bowl of congee slowly.
You must've offended them.
Liu Mei walks to you and grabs your shoulders gently.
"My dear Yunru, you need to be educated in this field," Liu Mei elegantly turns to the box.
"You shouldn't bother Liu Mei, Yunru is an ignorant person who lives under a rock," you furrow your eyebrows in annoyance as you look at your sister who is opening her new bag, she waves you off.
Liu Mei takes out a stack of lip balm sticks from the box.
She takes the red chapstick and gives it to your mother.
"Tata chapstick for you dear ama," your mother takes the chapstick. She immediately puts it on.
"It's a shame my soulmate is at work, I would be kissing him silly with my new cherry blossom Taehyung lips," you groan in disgust as your mother smacks her lips together. Mingmei cringes slightly.
"Ama, this is embarrassing," she ignores you and looks in one of the wall mirrors placed in the dining room. Liu Mei turns to you once again.
What now?
"Knowing you aren't an army, I won't waste merch on you, but you can have a pick at one of these chapsticks," You take the light blue koala chapstick.
"Excellent choice,"
"I don't really care," you finish eating.
"Liu Mei you better be done with your box of mysterious items so we can clean the table or we will be late to claim our dorm."
"Oh yeah, thanks for the reminder," Liu Mei begins helping clean up, but you both are immediately stopped.
"You girls go on ahead, or you will be late, I'll let you off today," your mother waves you off with a quick gesture. "Don't forget your carry-on bags, Yunru."
You nod in appreciation and fetch your bags from your room.
Both you and Liu Mei head out with your bags in your hands. Walking to her metallic blue Kia Rio, you place your bags in the boot of the car.
You and Liu Mei are third-year students at Tsinghua University in Beijing. You are studying film, and television and Liu Mei is studying media and design.
"Hey, Liu Mei did you do your media assignment for Mr. Fang?" She stops dead in her tracks. She turns to you, and her eyes are wide.
"What..noo," she whines while looking up.
