"Boggs, Juniper. Come in. Do you read me?" Beetee kept attempting to reach them through the radio. The screen in the room had gone completely static. "I'm getting nothing."
"He know that they're in there!" Katniss stuttered, looking to Haymitch. "It was a trap, we have to get a hold of them. We have to tell them to get out, he knows!"
"There's no signal, we can't contact them."
"Then get the signal!" Finnick yelled. "You can't just leave them in there! You have to warn them!" Finnick fought with Plutarch.
"Haymitch, he knew the whole time. He was taunting me the whole time." Katniss was talking to Haymitch in full sobs, he pulled her in for a hug, trying to calm her down. "Did I just lose them both?"
Finnick stood watching the two of them. He didn't know what to do anymore. He may have just lost his everything, too. Juniper. His three best friends, Johanna, Annie, and Lilo. He didn't know how to take it. Katniss was breaking down right in front of him, but he stood static. Should he be doing the same thing?
The two wanted to stay in the room, but they were forced out and were told they would get news when it arrived. But it was blank, it seemed forever, and nothing ever came.
Katniss and Finnick sat in the training room together. They were throwing knives at targets to get everything off their minds, but ultimately just sat against the wall, tying knots with ropes.
Finnick's fingers were raw, but he kept tying over and over again. Katniss as well.
"Did you love Juniper right away, Finnick?" Katniss asked, looking towards him. She was unsure of the answer. She knew he loved her, but that only came recently.
"Maybe." Finnick said. "But she crept up on me."
Katniss nodded and looking back at her rope, a noose. Gale and Peeta stormed her head again, the silence was killing her. Finnick seemed to notice that.
"She was unlike anyone I've met before." Finnick started speaking again, breaking Katniss out of her thoughts. "Her voice was beautiful, she was beautiful, but she was my sisters best friend. I think deep down I always loved her in some way, I just forced it to be hatred for a while."
"After my sister died, I was just so mad at the world. I didn't know who to direct that anger to other than Juniper, and that ruined everything for us. That's how she crept up on me." Finnick laughed to himself, tightening the rope in his hands. "I never thought her and I would get to this point, but we did. I think I always just denied it because I never thought I would be deserving of it."
"It's the worst torture in the world." Finnick said again. "Waiting, and there's nothing you can do about it." A few tears escaped Finnick's eyes and rolled down his cheek, which he wiped away with his sleeve. He untied the knot in his hand and instead made a small bow. He smiled.
It was only a moment more of silence before the door opened, they both stood up with hope in their eyes.
"They're back!" Haymitch called, the two stood up and the group ran out of the room to the hospital wing. They opened up the doors to the hospital room. Nurses and doctors were everywhere. The group first ran to someone who seemed to be refusing care.
"Johanna." Katniss whispered. She was badly bruised, a shaved head. Johanna ripped off everything that was being injected into her system and her mouth formed into a smirk.
"I'm alive." She rose her arms. Finnick smiled, capturing his best friend into a hug. The two were parted for way too long.
"Gale!" Katniss called, running to another part of the hospital. Finnick told Johanna to let the nurses treat her and he walked to the center of the room, trying to find somebody. He saw a redhead. Annie. She was hugging Mags for dear life. Finnick smiled, he was happy she was back.
"Finnick!" Another familiar voiced yelled. He turned, seeing Lilo laying in a hospital bed. She was waving at him. Finnick ran over to her, asking her a million questions. "Woah, slow down. My head still hurts."
"Did they hurt you?" Finnick asked, Lilo hesitated, but nodded know.
"Not physically... Mentally, yeah." Lilo looked down at her shaky hands. "I didn't know anything, so they didn't hurt me. But whenever they tried, Lennox took the beating for me. I heard he's not doing well. They got him pretty bad after he defended Juniper during the interview. All I heard were his screams."
Lilo frowned and so did Finnick. He wasn't close with Lennox, but he couldn't imagine being him right now.
"Where's Juniper?" Finnick asked, he looked frantic still. Lilo tilted her head and smirked. Lilo had just had a long conversation with her sister on the ship, though she was pretty delirious from the gas. Juniper wouldn't let anybody go near her for a while, until doctors forced her away.
"Why do you want to know? I leave for how long? Did you two bond over losing me?" Lilo smirked but Finnick remained the same. She sighed, knowing she wouldn't get an answer. She pointed to another room. "Think she's with Lennox, in there."
Finnick thanked Lilo and let the nurses get back to what they were doing. He came upon a room and looked inside. Lennox was laying down in a bed, not awake. Juniper was at his side. Well- forcing to be at his side. The doctors were forcing her out of the room the time he made it over there. The door slammed shut and the curtains closed.
Juniper banged on the door in anger.
"What's wrong?" Finnick said.
"I don't know, they won't tell me." Juniper looked pissed and she pushed her way out of the hospital room. Finnick was beyond confused, but followed her out.
It was hard to keep up with her, but when he did, he grabbed her arm and opened a nearby door, forcing her into a room with him. The room was pretty empty, he had no idea where they were, it looked like a supply room.
"What!" Juniper shook his hand off of her and he laughed to himself. "Sorry, I'm just... I did all of that to get them back and they don't even let me see him! They force me away from Lilo and Amirah!" Juniper was ranting on and on and Finnick just stood there.
"You need to stop putting yourself in dangerous situations." Finnick voiced, stopping Juniper from speaking. She looked at him, confused. "You almost gave me a heart attack, when those screens went down and we couldn't get through to you..."
"I had to save them, Finnick."
"I know that, but you keep doing everything they say, and it's putting you in danger!" Finnick said, tears were brimming in his eyes slightly. "What if you had gotten injured?"
"But I didn't!" Juniper retaliated back. "Why does it matter? I did it all for them, okay? I had to do it to get them back."
"But what about me?" Finnick yelled. Juniper was caught off guard by his sudden voice and the statement he had just made.
"You?" Juniper whispered. Finnick continued, not answering her.
"I have to watch you leave every single time, not knowing if you're going to come back or not. I can't go with you either to make sure you're safe. And you keep throwing yourself in these situations and acting like it's totally fine. I have to sit back and watch you pretend it's fine, when I know you well enough to know it isn't."
Juniper didn't know what to say. But it wasn't helping that she was already fed up with everything else going on.
"Why do you care so much about me leaving?" Juniper wondered. "You're always so on and off with me, I never know whether you actually want to see me or you want to push me away again! You're always so hot and cold-!"
"What do you expect!" Finnick said. "I love you! I never wanted to let you in my life because this would happen. I constantly push you away because I don't want to tear myself apart if you don't come back. I never let anyone in this way before, and I didn't know how to stop the feeling. If one day they broke the news to me that something had happened in those districts, I don't know what I would do with myself."
Juniper froze. The two never broke eye contact, but she tried looking into his eyes for a confirmation to what he just admitted. And she found it, he was being truthful.
"You love me?" She asked. Finnick took a deep breath, he had said it. It was out in the open now. There was no denying it.
"Isn't that obvious?" His voice cracked. "You think I of all people wanted to fall in love with you? The person I've supposedly hated all these years? I tried to change the way I feel about you, believe me. I tried. But I can't get you out of my head, you're always there. I need to know that you're safe. Because I care about you. I love you." He said it again, he kept repeating the phrase over and over again in his head.
"And I can't help but feel no matter how many times I say it, it'll never be enough to get through to you to change your mind about me."
The silence in the room was loud. But Juniper just smiled to herself, a breathy laugh escaped her lips. Finnick didn't know what she was laughing about.
"Change my mind about you?" She questioned in a whispered tone. "You make me so angry, I want to scream. But I love you so much it almost tears me apart."
"I never thought I deserved someone who loved me. I never thought someone could love me. But, you love me for who I am, despite all of my flaws?" She asked. Finnick just nodded his head slightly. She wanted to break eye contact. But her eyes were glued to his.
Finnick looked between her eyes and her lips, not knowing what to do next. Juniper waited impatiently, but grew tired. She took a step forward, placing her hand behind his neck and pulled him down to her. Their lips interlocked and moved at the same pace as one another.
Finnick rested his hands on Juniper's waist and pulled her body closer to his, while Juniper lifted both of her arms around his neck, one of her hands played with his hair on the back of his head.
It seemed so wrong, but it felt so right.
It was a heated kiss, the first one the two had ever shared. But it felt as if it should've happened sooner, as if the moment was far past it's initial point. But, it was perfect.
Juniper pulled away, and they both opened their eyes. She pulled away slightly and the two just took the view in.
"You kissed me." He said, making sure it was real.
"I did." Juniper answered, a bit surprised with herself. Never in her life would she believe she would take the initiative on this.
Finnick pulled her back to him and their lips touched again. The kiss was soft and patient, but soon it became very heated. Finnick didn't want to stop, he had longed for this for so long, but Juniper's hand lowered to his chest and pushed him off slightly. He looked confused at her, wondering if he had went too far.
"We're in a random room." She reminded him, which also reminded herself of where they were.
So, Finnick took her hand and opened the door, leading them to a much more comfortable and secluded room.

The two ran down the hallway hand in hand, smiling. Anyone who had caught them was sure to be confused, however, they ran into nobody on the way.
Finnick pulled Juniper inside of his bedroom and the door shut behind them. Before Juniper knew it, she was backed up against the wall and Finnick's lips captured hers. They never moved out of sync.
Finnick removed himself from Juniper and looked her up and down. Juniper was still in her attire she was in from when she stormed the Capitol. Juniper noticed his eye and took off the vest she was in, throwing it onto the floor.
"Are you sure?" He wondered. He wanted to take a step away, not wanting to force her to continue. She reached her hand out and pulled him back by his shirt.
"I'm one hundred percent sure about this."
"Really?" Finnick smirked, crossing his arms and tilting his head, he took a step away again and was pulling back. "You know, I really hate you. You know that? Always pulling me around-"
"Oh just shut up and kiss me." Finnick did exactly what she said.
Juniper took of her shirt, but her bra still remained covering her upper body. She was scared, but Finnick made her feel more comfortable. The two remained connected, and Finnick's head lowered to her neck, gently biting. A few noises had escaped her lips, but she wanted to try and stay strong.
He knew he found the spot he was looking for when she had more of an audible reaction. Her hand reached up and rested on the back of his neck. Her fingertips playing with the hair on the back of his head.
Juniper shoved him off and smiled at him. He winked, taking off his shirt next and revealing his upper body to her. She smiled a bit, enjoying what she saw but trying her best not to let him know that.
She walked towards him and placed a hand on his chest. He tilted his head down and kissed her again. They never broke contact until Finnick's knees met the end of his bed and Juniper pushed him over. His back landed softly on the mattress and he propped himself up on his elbows, looking up at Juniper.
Juniper climbed on the bed over him, straddling him. He sat up fully and laid his hands gently at her sides. His head was right in front of her chest, but he was looking up at her, into her eyes.
"You're beautiful." He whispered. The small compliment made her crack a small smile.
"Are you sure about this?" Juniper checked with him, Finnick widened his eyes and nodded repeatedly, the both of them laughed at his own reaction to her statement.
"I want you."
With that, they spent the night together.
