                                                                                          Leonor

I was utterly exhausted when I awoke. It was the morning of our flight to Switzerland, and we had everything worked out. Chloe and Gio were flying from the United States, so it would take them longer. Hannah and Elena were meeting me and Gavi at the airport to wait for our flight.

Gavi was supposed to be here at 5 AM; it was currently 3:30. I had gone to bed extremely early to ensure that I got enough sleep.

I practically rolled out of my bed, landing on the floor in a heap. I laid there for a while, curled in a ball and trying to keep warm. I knew I needed to get up and finish getting packed soon, otherwise I would be late.

I groaned as I finally stood up, making my way to my closet. My suitcase awaited me. It was a pretty pale pink, a springtime color.

I grabbed a matching pair of sweats and grumbled into the bathroom to get ready. It was still pitch black outside.

I threw my hair up and put on the lightest layer of makeup so that I didn't look dead. I brushed my teeth, sprayed my perfume and finalized packing up my toiletries bag.

I shoved everything into my suitcase and stood back, admiring it. I had made record time; it was only 4 AM.

I crept downstairs carefully, lugging my suitcase behind me. When I reached the ground floor, I wheeled the suitcase to the door and left it there, so that I was prepared for when Gavi arrived.

I made a mental checklist to myself as I poured a bowl of cereal.

"Phone. Keys. Chargers. Money. Toiletries," I ran over the list in my head as I took big spoonfuls. The cereal tasted bland and stale. I tossed the rest in the garbage.

It was still dark outside when I made my way to my suitcase, which was still sitting by the door. I dug through it one last time, making sure all of my belongings were accounted for. I zipped it back up and stood there, staring out the window into the city.

It looked so empty outside. So dark. So eerie.

By the time I snapped out of my trance, it was nearly 5 AM. I hustled up the stairs and into Sofia's room. I cracked the door slightly and stared at her. She was fast asleep, bundled under the covers. I watched her for a moment longer before I closed her door and left.

When I made it downstairs, Gavi was just pulling up to the palace. Perfect timing.

I lugged my suitcase down the stairs and around to the hatch of his car. He emerged from the front seat, and helped me to life the suitcase into the trunk.

"Hi," I said breathlessly, wiping some sweat off of my forehead.

"Hey," he replied groggily, pulling me into a half-hug. I smiled reflexively.

We both took our seats in his car. It was a beautiful car, with a black leather interior and smooth, polished wood. I buckled my seatbelt and sat back for the ride.

"Straight to the airport?" He asked me quietly.

"Yeah. Are you excited?" I inquired. I really wanted to know the truth, in private.

"I am, Leonor," he answered shyly. I felt myself blushing.

Since the streets were barely crowded, we reached the airport in record time. Gavi pulled his car into the parking ramp, paid for the week, and then guided me to the elevators. We rode them down to the first level, where we would be meeting Hannah and Elena.

"Are you excited to see your friends?" He asked me, looking me in my eyes as we walked.

"Of course. I haven't seen them in years," I said excitedly. It was true. I had been waiting for this day for forever.

As the elevator doors opened, I saw them standing there. They were conversing together, and they didn't notice me at first.

"Hannah! Elena!" I shouted happily, throwing my arms in the air.

They turned to face me, and their faces immediately lit up.

Suitcase in tow, I ran over to them, throwing my arms around their shoulders. I pulled them both close, placing my face in the crooks of their necks.

"We're so happy to see you!" Hannah cried, hugging me tighter.

We all stood there for a while, hugging each other firmly and not wanting to let go.

"I hate to break your little moment, but we don't have a lot of time until our flight leaves," Gavi said, coming up to stand beside me. We all pulled away, staring at him.

"Hi, I'm Hannah and this is my younger sister, Elena," Hannah greeted, holding out her hand for him to shake. He did so, and we began to move our luggage to the baggage scanner.

After our suitcases were loaded and sent to the plane, we rapidly ascended the escalators and hurried to our gate. We made it with just enough time to spare; the flight attendants were scanning tickets already.

As we waited in line, I began to discuss specifics with Hannah and Elena.

"Chloe and Gio are flying from the United States to Switzerland, so it will take them longer. We will meet them at the airport, and when they arrive, we will all leave together. The hotel is book in Chloe's name after all," I said quickly. We were next to give the flight attendants our tickets.

After we were all accounted for, we entered the plane and began searching for seats. The rows were only 3 seats wide on each side; someone would have to sit separately. We found a row in the middle that was completely empty.

I threw my carry-on bag into the compartment and took the window seat. Gavi slid in beside me, and Hannah took the isle. Elena grumbled as she settled into the row across from us.

Soon enough, the plane was full. Elena ended up sitting next to a mother and her crying baby. I felt terrible.

I promised myself that I would sit with her on the way back home.

After the flight attendants came through and made sure everyone was buckled, the pilots came over the intercom.

"Hello folks, this is your captain speaking. We are set to take off here from Madrid in less than 20 minutes. You'll be on the ground in Switzerland in a matter of time."

Everyone cheered, settled back for the ride. I glanced out the window. The sun was just beginning to rise over the horizon, casting an eerie orange glow onto the runway.

Before I knew it, we were on the runway, waiting in line to take off. When it was our turn, I glanced over at Gavi nervously. He squeezed my hand tightly, smiling a little.

Hannah and Elena were both already asleep.

The plane jolted, speeding down the runway. We were in the sky before I knew it. I closed my eyes and settled back for the flight ahead of me.

In a short amount of time, we were already preparing to land on the runway in Bern, Switzerland. The plane began to lower as I sat up in my seat. We made contact with the runway and began to brake immediately, jolting me forward in my seat. Hannah and Elena were waking up, rubbing their eyes.

We came to a sudden stop outside of our gate. Everyone stood up, begging to grab their belongings and carry-ons.

When it was our turn to exit the plane, I grabbed my bag from the overhead compartment and slung it over my shoulder. Hannah and Elena exited first, with Gavi and me in tow.

The second we stepped foot inside of the airport, it all felt real.

"We're in Switzerland!" Elena said, reaching out to hug me.

I nodded in amazement. The airport was beautiful.

"We just have to wait for Gio and Chloe now," Gavi said quietly. We all nodded in agreement.

We found a comfortable bench near one of the big windows, and we all settled down for the wait. Chloe and Gio had left earlier than us, so they wouldn't be too long.

I yawned, rubbing my eyes and leaning my head against the window. I was nearly asleep when I felt my head life. I squinted my eyes slightly to see where I was. My head was propped against Gavi's shoulder, and he was gently stroking my hair. My heart fluttered in my chest.

I must have fallen asleep, because when I awoke, Gio and Chloe were making their way over to us. Chloe had a neck pillow on, and Gio was carrying a big black suitcase.

"Chloe! Gio!" Hannah exclaimed, hugging them both. We all took turns exchanging fond gestures before making our way outside. A private car would be waiting for us and our luggage.

We were immediately greeted with the chill air. It felt good, almost refreshing, after the hot Madrid heat.

A black SUV pulled up to the airport, and a man in a suit stepped out.

"Hello, my name is Matthew, and I will be your driver here today," he said politely, bowing to us.

He loaded our suitcases into the car, and we all settled into the vehicle. It smelled fresh, like it had just been cleaned. Maybe it had.

Chloe, Gio, and Hannah sat in the middle row, while Elena took the passenger seat. Me and Gavi were seated in the way back. All alone.

As the car sputtered to life, we began to plow through the busy Switzerland traffic. The country was beautiful, and we had only been here for a few hours.

"Are you ready?" Gavi asked me happily. He was smiling now.

"I was born ready," I laughed, gazing out the window. The drive to our hotel wasn't too far; we were there in less than an hour. Matthew parked the car and began to help us unload our luggage. When he was finished, I gave him a tip and a thanks before we all headed inside.

The hotel was beautiful, built out of smooth wood. It looked like a proper ski resort.

We all stood in the lobby, gazing out at the fake snow before us. I ran forward, pressing my cheek against the glass to get a better look. It was one of the most beautiful things I had ever seen.

Chloe and Gio checked us into our rooms. A few minutes later, they returned with the keys and a complimentary breakfast card.

"I don't even want to leave the lobby," I teased. Hannah had joined me at the window.

     "Me neither," she added.

This was going to be an amazing trip. The people were wonderful, the hotel was gorgeous, and we had an entire mound of fake snow to ski on. What more could I ask for?
