"So you're back?" Was what Wei WuHui heard as soon as she stepped foot into Lotus Pier and into the main hall, seeing Jiang Cheng cleaning his sword.
"I'm back ~." Wei WuHui grinned as she plopped herself beside her martial brother.
Jiang Cheng hummed as his eyes glanced over to the maiden. "Your face looks terrible. Don't tell me you ran into Jin ZiXuan?"
"What's wrong with my face?" Wei WuHui gasped in exasperation as she pulled out a small hand mirror, that was one of the many gifts that Lan XiChen courted her with, hurriedly checking her face. "But to answer your question, no. Way worse than Jin ZiXuan. Guess who."
Jiang Cheng raised a brow. "Lan XiChen?"
At that, Wei WuHui send him a deadpanned glare. "How is he worse than Jin ZiXuan? He's more of a saint compared to that Peacock."
"Well sorry," Jiang Cheng raised his arms in surrender while rolling his eyes subtly. "Give me a hint."
"Wants to lock me up." Wei WuHui stated.
"Lan WangJi? It isn't the scheduled day so why is he here in Yunmeng?" Jiang Cheng frowned.
Wei WuHui shrugged. "No idea. He's in the streets, probably searching for someone. After the Sunshot Campaign, he hasn't brought this up in such a long time. Now he's at it again."
"Well it's technically your fault for making the scheduled meetings as a thing now." Jiang Cheng retorted.
"Hey now, it wasn't just me who suggested that plan, it was also Gege. Probably 'cause his Lan Zhan can get to visit him more often now." Wei WuHui snickered.
The male blinked in confusion. "What do you mean?"
"Are you blind, Jiang Cheng?" Wei WuHui blurted.
This caused an angry vein to appeared at Jiang Cheng's forehead. "What the hell? That was an actual genuine question!" He scowled.
As she stared at him for a few moment with a deadpanned expression, Wei WuHui then released a sigh. "No wonder you can't attract a maiden yet, even with your long requirements for matchmaking. Gege is in love with Lan WangJi."
.
.
.
"HUH?!"
"See, you are blind." Wei WuHui sighed, ducking down just as her head avoid the flying hand from Jiang Cheng's.
"Whatever." Jiang Cheng huffed before his eyes trailed down to his sword as he went back to cleaning the blade.
"Just how many times do you have to wipe your sword in one day?" Wei WuHui asked.
"Three times. And your sword? How long has it been since you last wiped it?" Jiang Cheng retorted.
Wei WuHui hummed as she inhaled her smoking pipe and exhaled the smoke. "I don't know. I just tossed it into my room. Once a month should be good enough."
"From now on, carry your sword in important events like hunts or Discussion Conferences. That's a ripe example of lack of discipline for others to laugh at." Jiang Cheng stated.
"It's not like you don't know. I hate it the most when others force me to do things. The more they force me to do something, the less I want to do it. I'm not carrying my sword, what are they going to do about it?" Wei WuHui huffed in annoyance.
At that, Jiang Cheng glared at the maiden.
The latter then added. "And I don't want to be pulled into a sword duel by people I don't even know. Whenever my sword unsheathes, there has to be blood. Unless they give me a few people to kill, nobody can bother me. So I'll just not take it. Solves everything. It's better that way."
"You used to carry your sword everywhere you go, what change?" Jiang Cheng asked.
Wei WuHui felt her body flinching unconsciously as she couldn't help but rubbed the spot on her stomach. A dark expression went over her face for a split second before it quickly disappeared as she covered it up with a shrug. "I just don't feel like it and besides, carrying a sword is becoming a drag nowadays."
"Fine, don't carry your sword then. It doesn't matter. But don't provoke Jin ZiXuan from now on. He's Jin GuangShan's only son, after all. The future leader of the Lanling Sect will be him. If you and Wei WuXian beat him up, what should I, the Sect Leader, do? Beat him up with you two? Or punish you?" Jiang Cheng explained.
"Isn't Jin GuangYao here now? Jin GuangYao seems so much better than him." Wei WuHui pointed it out.
Jiang Cheng just finished wiping his sword as he looked over it one more time before sheathing it. "So what if he's better? No matter how much better he is, no matter how clever, he could only be a servant who greets the guests. That's all there is to his life. He can't compare with Jin ZiXuan."
Wei WuHui blinked. 'It sounds like he somewhat praising Jin ZiXuan' "Jiang Cheng, be honest with me. What do you mean? Last time, you went all the way to take Shijie over. You can't actually want Shijie to...?"
"It's not impossible." Jiang Cheng replied nonchalantly.
"Not impossible? Have you forgotten what he did in Langya? You're telling me that it's not impossible?" Wei WuHui said, her mouth gaped.
"He's probably regretting it." Jiang Cheng added.
Wei WuHui huffed. "Who cares if he regrets it. Do we have to forgive him just because he apologised? Look at how his father's like. Maybe he'll be goddamn same in the future, killing time with searching everywhere for women. Must Shijie be with him? Do you think you could take it?"
Immediately, angry red came over Jiang Cheng's face. "See if he dares!" But before he can continue ranting, he then paused before taking a deep breath. "But, it's not like you have a say in whether he's forgiven or not. A-Jie likes him, so what can we do?"
Wei WuHui was reminded of the moment when Jin ZiXuan confessed to her martial sister and the pure happiness and love that were presented on Jiang YanLi's face said it all. The dark maiden sighed. "You're right, it is Shijie's choice in accepting Jin ZiXuan's confession."
Wei WuHui then stood up. "Where is Shijie anyway?"
Jiang Cheng shrugged. "I don't know. Probably still at either the kitchen, her bedroom and the Ancestral Hall. Where else could she go?"
———
Wei WuHui searched for her older martial sister, she tried the kitchen first but only see a half a jar of steaming soup that was cooking on the fire but no Jiang YanLi. Next, she went to her bedroom, wasn't there either. Lastly, Wei WuHui heads to the Ancestral Hall and sure enough, there she is.
Jiang YanLi was kneeling in front of the late Sect Leader Jiang and Madame Yu's memorial tablets, cleaning them and whispering her prayers.
Wei WuHui popped her head inside. "There you are, Shijie! Talking to Uncle Jiang and Madame Yu again?"
Jiang YanLi turned to look back at the other maiden, smiling gently. "You nor the boys didn't come, so of course I have to." She stated.
Wei WuHui just smiled sheepishly, walking inside as she knelt beside Jiang YanLi and began cleaning the tablets.
"A-Hui, why are you looking at me like that? Is there something you'd like to tell me?" Jiang YanLi asked.
"Oh nothing, I just want to roll around you that's all." Wei WuHui grinned before beginning to roll around like a carefree child.
Jiang YanLi chuckled. "HuiHui, are you three like XianXian?"
"No, I'm two! Two!" Wei WuHui grinned childishly while holding up two fingers in the air.
Wei WuHui felt her heart bloomed with happiness as she watched Jiang YanLi laughed before sitting up. "Shijie, I now understand how to love someone." She stated.
Jiang YanLi blinked before smiling as she saw the adoration in her Shimei's eyes. "Go on."
"Lan Huan, he...he is kind, caring and I don't know how I am able to attract the Number one Bachelor's attention," Wei WuHui continued warmly. "But when I saw him after coming back, I...I missed him. I missed seeing his eyes, the eyes that draws me in from the beginning. I love him so much." She clutched her chest, feeling her heart pounding so loud that she think Jiang YanLi can even hear it. "So, I know how you feel when it comes to Jin ZiXuan. He makes your heart skip a beat right?"
Jiang YanLi smiled. "Yes, he does. Very much."
As just as the maidens felt peace in the Ancestral Hall, their brothers then arrived.
"Mèimei! Shijie! ChengCheng and I brought soups for us!" Wei WuXian announced loudly as he always do, heading to his twin to hand her the warm bowl of Jiang YanLi's signature soup.
"Thank you, Gēge!" Wei WuHui grinned as she looked down the steaming soup, smiling warmly at the all familiar scent of the Lotus Root soup. But then her brows furrowed in confusion. "Eh? Where's all the meats?"
"Oh I finished them. Only lotus roots were left so you don't have to eat them if you want to." Jiang Cheng grumbled.
"Huh?! How could you do that to me?!" Wei WuHui whined as she then launched a punching attack on the young Sect Leader. "Spit them out!"
"Ow! Ow! Ow! Stop it! Let's see if you do eat them if I did cough them up!" Jiang Cheng exclaimed as he tried to shield himself from the other maiden's attacks.
Meanwhile, the older siblings only watched in amusement of their young siblings' interaction.
Jiang YanLi giggled. "Okay, okay. How old are you two, fighting over some meat? I'll just make another jar."
"Yeah, Mèimei, ChengCheng. You two always get into arguments, no matter what!" Wei WuXian laughed.
"Don't call me ChengCheng!" Jiang Cheng scowled as he then turned his glare to the older Wei and began bickering with him this time.
Wei WuHui's eyes softened as she stared at her family. The warm feelings coming back as she quietly slipped outside after placing the, now, empty bowl on the ground before looking up to see the starry night.
Wei WuHui smiled. Memories of how she and Lan XiChen first met flashed through her head and then the memorable song that Lan XiChen played for her on that night, his composed song. Just for her.
Heat bloomed on her cheeks as she grinned bashfully, resisting the urge to cover her cheeks and fidgeted. 'I guess...the reason why I stopped Lan WangJi was because..
I thought he was Lan Huan instead'
Wei WuHui then began walking out of the training grounds, nodding back to the disiciples who past by her and gave nods in respect. All of them being unfamiliar to her.
She remembered the shidis and shimeis that she and Wei WuXian used to teach, the senior disicples who would always gave the twins helpful advices in cultivation and the servants that always made funny faces and didn't salute properly...they had long since gone.
Across the training grounds and beyond the Lotus Pier's gates, were a wide pier where no matter what time it is, there would be vendors selling foods. Wei WuHui smelled a wonderful scent that came from a pot of sizzling oil.
She then went over to the vendor. "Big servings today, huh?"
"Wei Gu-Niang, you want one? I'll give it to you for free. Not charging anything." The vendor grinned kindly to the maiden.
Wei WuHui giggled. "Sure, I'll have one but please, still charge it."
Meanwhile, a cloaked figure was seen, sitting beside the vendor's stall as before the dark maiden came to the stall, the person waa shaking from the cold breeze and hugged their knees closer to their chest.
But as Wei WuHui spoke, the figure's head shot up and their tired eyes were now widened in disbelief.
Wei WuHui's eyes were the same as she immediately recognised the person and gasped out. "You?!"
