After walking in silence for what felt like forever, Y/n finally arrived at Tails workshop. She turned to the black and red hedgehog who had led her there. "Thank you!" she said with a smile, but he didn't respond. Instead, he just turned and walked away, leaving her standing there.

Y/n tilted her head, watching him go.

Grumpy hedgehog: who doesn't like to speak

she noted to herself filing the observation away in her mind as she entered the workshop.

Once inside, Y/n began to feel strange. Her energy was fading, her legs were shaky, and soon she slumped down onto the floor. "What's happening?" she muttered, but she didn't understand what was going on. Tails hadn't explained much to her earlier, so she wasn't sure what to do.

Tails finally returned from the party, pushing the door open with a big grin. "Y/n, I'm back! How wasโ€”" He stopped in his tracks when he saw her lying motionless on the floor.

"Oh no!" he gasped, rushing over. "I forgot to tell her about her battery life!"

Quickly, Tails grabbed a charger and plugged it into the hairpin on Y/n's head. After a few minutes, her eyes slowly blinked open, though she still looked tired.

As she came back online, Tails noticed something funny on his computer screen. Next to a new note in her memory system was a label

Grumpy hedgehog: doesn't like to speak.

Tails chuckled to himself. "Looks like she already met Shadow" he said under his breath.

When Y/N fully woke up, she sat up and looked around. "Hi, Tails!" she said brightly, even though she was still on the floor. "What happened? Why did I just... shut down like that?"

Tails scratched the back of his head sheepishly. "I forgot to tell you about your battery life. It's something you need to monitor so you don't run out of power."

"Battery life?" Y/n repeated.

"Yup! But don't worry" Tails said, holding up his tablet. "I programmed an alert into your system. Now you'll know when your battery is low, and it'll remind you to recharge."

Suddenly, a new message popped up in Y/n's mind:

Battery life low = charger plugged into hairpin.

She touched the hairpin on her head and smiled. "That's actually really clever! The hairpin is the outlet?"

Tails puffed out his chest proudly. "Of course! I'm glad you think so!"

Y/n smiled back but then remembered the hedgehog who had brought her back here. "By the way, Tails... does that grumpy hedgehog work with you?"

"You mean Shadow?" Tails asked, laughing a little.

"Shadow?" Y/n repeated. "Oh, so that's his name. He doesn't talk much, does he?"

Tails shook his head. "Not really. He's kind of serious and quiet. That's just how he is."

Y/n tilted her head thoughtfully. "I want to help him. Maybe I can get him to talk more!"

Tails blinked, surprised. "You really want to try that?"

"Of course! He seems... different. I think he could use some help." Y/n said confidently.

Tails grinned. "You're pretty determined, huh? Do you want me to program you to focus on helping Shadow?"

Y/n thought about it for a moment and then shook her head. "Not just him. I want to help everyone, not just Grumpy Hedgehog." She smiled brightly.
"But I'll definitely keep trying with him!"

Tails laughed and gave her a thumbs-up. "Got it. I'll make sure your programming matches your goal."

After tweaking a few things on his computer, Tails shut Y/n down for the night so she could fully recharge. "Tomorrow" he said to himself, "I'll give her a proper introduction to everyone. She didn't exactly get the best welcome today."

As the workshop grew quiet, Tails glanced one last time at the note on his screen

Grumpy hedgehog: doesn't like to speak.

He chuckled again before turning off the lights and heading to bed, already planning out tomorrow's events.
