Darryl Pov:
So it's not a dream, huh?
I sat in the dark, still trembling.
What has my life become in just an hour?
I realized that the guy was probably still in the building, and that I had to walk passed that washroom that he dragged the girl in to, to leave the building. This made me worried.
Are there other exits?
I actually don't know. All my classes are either in this one hallway, or in the commons. So I don't get to explore the school much during the day. I only know about this exit, since it's the one the bus drops me off at.
Maybe, just maybe, I can find one a different exit.
I stood up, and walked in to the shadows, that Karl was before. If I wasn't imagining that, which I probably was. I felt like I was directly in someone's nightmare, only it was real.
I walked through the darkness, and whenever I heard the slightest noise, I jumped. And I imagined horrible scenarios happening to me in my head.
Like what if the guy finds me, and drags me in to the washroom too?
What if there's more than just one of those guys?
What if he sneaks up behind me and slits my throat?
What if he throws a knife at me from behind?
What if I bump in to him on accident?
What if I make too much noise?
My mind was full of what if's. I quietly stepped down the hallway, trying my hardest not to make any noise, none at all.
*Creak*
Oh no, I made a noise. Did they hear that?
I couldn't quite make out where I even was in the school, it was darker than the other parts around this school, probably from the lack of windows. Suddenly, I heard footsteps.
Footsteps?! I hear footsteps!
I started freaking out, but I didn't know which way the footsteps were coming from, so I didn't know which way to run.
Suddenly the footsteps were right next to me.
The person sounded out of breath.
"Please don't hurt me!" I pleaded.
"Huh? What? Hurt you?"
Wait, they sound familiar.
"Zak?!" I recognized the voice.
"Oh my gosh, Darryl!"
"You scared me, you muffin!"
"What are you doing here?" He asked.
"What are you doing here?!" I asked, really wanting to know.
I was struggling to look him in the eyes, it was still pitch black.
"I came to uhm.. pick up something!" He said.
"Okay.. I'm here because of uh.. oh yeah! I fell asleep in class, and they forgot to wake me up when they left."
"That's a dumb teacher." Zak sounded a bit annoyed.
"Well I guess.." I didn't know what to say, I feel bad insulting people, "I was just trying to leave, do you happen to know where an exit is?"
"Oh yeah, I do," he pointed the direction I came from, I think. Still hard to see.
I really don't want to leave through that exit though, I'm still scared of that.
"Any others?" I asked.
"Why not that one?" He asked.
Now we are just asking each other questions, we are being too loud, what if the guy shows up.
"Didn't you hear it?" I asked him.
"Hear what?" He asked.
Okay, this question thing is getting annoying.
"I don't think it's safe over there, please, I just don't want to go over there." I pleaded.
"Okay! I got the thing I needed anyway, I'll lead you to the other exit."
"Thank you," I said.
"Your welcome, here, give me your hand." He held out his hand, I went to go grab it, but missed, I tried a second time, and I got it this time, "okay let's go." Zak said.
He started to pull me the direction I was originally going. But something felt off about him. I just can't quite put my finger on it. I noticed that a light was approaching, and I felt relieved.
At least we will be safe, I thought.
He went to open the door, but it didn't open.
Oh no.
"I think we might be locked in here." Zak said, I could see him now, it was still pretty early, and the sun hadn't gone down, so I could see him in the sunlight.
But wait..
Is he wearing a dark hoodie?
I let go of his hand.
"What's wrong?" He asked me.
"Where were you all day today? At school, I mean," I asked, wanting answers.
"What do you mean? I was here?" He looked confused.
Not buying the look. He seems like a good liar.
Sure, Zak is awesome, and a good friend, but that's not gonna stop me from being skeptical of him, all this just dosn't make sense.
"Where were you at lunch?" I asked him, "or during switching periods?"
"I was in the far back corner table, at lunch. And I was switching periods during- are you okay?" He actually sounded concerned.
"How long were you here?" I asked.
"Since like 3pm I think."
"You can't tell me you didn't hear that earlier then."
"Hear what?"
Oh I don't know, those loud screams? How could you not hear that!?
"Where exactly were you at 3pm?" I kept asking questions.
We were still standing right beside the locked exit door.
". . ."
Why isn't he responding?
"Hello?" I waved my hand in front of Zak's face.
"Oh sorry, I had to think."
Why would you have to think about where you were? It's a simple question!
No way he's...
"Oh! I remember. I was in Mr. Ollie's classroom, to get that thing I was talking about." He said.
Mr. Ollie's classroom is across from where the girl was being dragged, maybe he actually didn't hear it?
"Oh.." I said in response, "how did you find me?"
He looked a little upset with all of the questions, but I needed to know.
"I was just leaving Mr. Ollie's classroom, and heading to the exit, when I heard a noise. I got startled, and quickly ran over to see what it was. And it was you!" He explained.
I was gonna say that I'm glad he found me, but I'm not so sure.
"Darryllll!" He whined.
"What?"
"Are you mad at me?"
He is so cute
"No, I'm not."
"Good."
Silence
"Just please don't betray me?" I asked him.
"Why would I ever do that?! I lo- your my best friend. I know we just met, but I really think we are close, I would never dream of betraying you!" He sounded genuine.
"That's really reassuring," I sighed.
"Now let's get out of here!" He exclaimed.
Zak is acting sus. Dudududu. They finna Speedrun their way out of that school.
