Flashback
"HOW DID YOUR STUDIES GO?" Cora asked curiously while shoving her fork a little bit too harshly into her broccoli before plopping it into her mouth.
She eyed him cautiously, watching every move he took not even trying to hide her actions.
When Cornelius did something, she always made it obvious to the eyes of the people watching.
She was never the type to hide behind her actions or play dumb for that matter. And especially if she didn't like you, she'd for sure make it known.
The boy glanced up at her before swiftly diverting his eyes on to something else.
He stuttered with his words, but finally it came out.
"It uh, it went well.." he said casually, trying to play it cool and hide the fact he didn't finish his studies, or even start it for that matter since he was busy with his focus elsewhere. That being, snooping in on Cora's conversation.
She nodded slowly while looking at him intensely, not daring to glance away before she spoke.
"Fix your posture." She said before she cleared her throat then cutting into her steak harshly.
Just as the boy believed the small talk investigation to be over, he couldn't be far from wrong.
"Why are you lying?" Was all the lady at the end of the table said.
And those four words was all it took for the kid to be shook to his core.
He couldn't show his fear, reading people was like Cora's specialty. So he played like what he thought was casual.
"Uh.. um what are you talking about?" Noren said fumbling with his words, while twirling the fork in his hand.
"Oh don't play dumb." She paused to give a long lasting glare before continuing. "I know you were right outside of my door yesterday. Listening, snooping, being nosy. What did I tell you about respecting people's privacy?"
Her tone was cunning, like it was some sort of test, or twisted game.
Like she wanted him to break, and under her hard exterior it truly looked like she was smiling.
And all of this.
It was not new for the Mikaelson born child. No.
It's just he was never in his seven years of being on this earth on the other end of his Grandmother's manipulative or hateful speeches.
Except one time, but that's for a different time, though since then, never again.
But right now, he was like the prey and her, the predator.
She chuckled stiffly beneath her breath before out of nowhere, she slammed her fist harshly against the table, causing all the food and utensils to rattle roughly.
"Are you joking me?! Do you think I'm stupid?!" She seethed.
"You don't think that I could hear you sly little footsteps or even your short little breaths from a mile away, boy?!"
Her sudden tantrum caught the kid more than just of guard.
He stared at her with wide eyes and his mouth so wide that it probably caught fly.
He was beyond speechless, the only words that came out weren't even English dictionary.
"I-I- I-I WHAT?!"
She mocked him like a parrot, but before she or even he himself could realize, his feet had already carried himself out of the dining room and towards the staircase trying his best to make it to his bedroom so he can hide beneath his bed.
Before he could get any further, she ran directly after him, not forgetting to pick up the knife she was just seconds ago using to cut into her steak.
As he ran up the stairs, his heart beating, it took him a few seconds to realize his own grandmother was not only chasing him, but with a knife in one hand with intentions that only god knows.
But why? Was what he did such big deal that she wanted to harm him. Or better yet, were her actions justified?
He didn't know what to think.
How could one minute of him just being nosy as a fun game turn into something so big he thought.
Screaming and yelling tore throughout the mansion, threats coming from left and right.
He didn't recognize her.
That was not the lady he grew up loving.
She was overreacting he thought, of course she was. Any person in there right mind would know that she was absolutely crazy.
But in her eyes, he found out the truth about where he had come from.
From what she didn't comprehend was that to him, those were just words. Yes, he might have understood some of it and was somewhat questioning her, but he is just a kid. He would never actually understand how important or even the true meaning the conversation deeply held.
Cornelius was beyond angry, seven years. Seven years she kept this whole thing a secret and all it took was this little boy to be nosy and boom, "cats out of the bag," she thought angrily.
She still wanted to go through with training him, even if it meant by force.
She'd find a way she thought.
Making his way to his room he slammed the door shut. Shouting and banging from the other side of the wall filled his ears.
A sniffle of cries could be heard coming out of him, but he quickly shut them out. Crying was for the weak, that's what his the crazy lady behind the door taught him. But at this point, why listen to anything she had to say now.
He thought quickly, but so did Cora she ran downstairs to grab her grimoire. Trap him. That's it, she told herself.
The boy didn't waste another second grabbing his backpack before he could testify against himself and build up the courage to apologize to the mad woman. No, so instead he was gonna go through with his plan he just came up with less than a minute ago and leave. She had a knife, he told himself.
While packing, he took everything he believed to be of value. His stuffed panda, the Nasca grimoire he had been studying, his journal, piggy bank and his favourite painting.
The kid was smart, but clearly not that bright if he forgot to pack clothes.
On the other side of the door, Cora had set out salt surrounding the kids door just about ready to begin her spell.
The kid could see bright lights illuminating beneath his door from.. candles. He knew exactly what she was doing and honestly he wished he could say he wasn't surprised.
But he was.
She truly was mad if was going these lengths to keep him in her reach, or to even believe that he had the guts to run away... even though that's exactly what he doing.
He looked at his window and didn't waste another second pressing his hand against the glass focusing hard enough before it shattered beneath his touch, luckily, just in time before Cora could complete the spell.
And the way he knew was when he heard the screams and the desperate attempts of breaking the door down became even more desperate than before, when he hadn't even placed a foot outside the window.
Taking one last glance, he saw the wood from his door beginning to cave in, and that's when he took it as his sign to leave.
Ignoring all the calls, he knew she finally had broken through the door the sad hits against the wooden door stopped.
He didn't even have to glance back to know she was staring at him wiggle his himself between the gate, while probably hexing him, he thought to himself.
But she wasn't, surprisingly. She was too focused on yelling his name and trying her best to bribe him in the final moments before he could leave. But it was too late. He was gone and in both there heads he was never coming back.
Except, Cora made the word "willingly" abundantly clear in that sentence.
