Nellie Puckerman and Matteo Gomez have been together for over a year. And in that singular year, the duo has never had such an argument to the point where they would refuse to talk with one another. Sure, maybe they would cave in after a few seconds, for their love for each other persevered any obstacle that was thrown their way. Nellie tried to keep that outcome locked deep into her brain, counting down the seconds until that would be the case.

It wasn't.

Matteo hadn't uttered not a single word to Nellie ever since their argument on the bleachers, even going so far as to sleep over at Jays house of all places instead of right beside her. In a way, Nellie knew this was for the best. If they just went back to talking immediately, then what would that solve? Just twice the miscommunication and confusion between the duo which would lead to even more confrontation.

To make matters worse, Valentine's Day was coming up. What was supposed to be a holiday filled with love and joy was instead being turned into one full of tension and uneasiness. Nellie wanted to make things right before the day arrived, however she didn't know if she would be able to do so with the way Matteo had been avoiding her like the plague. She could understand why he might be upset, however she truly thought that she didn't do anything wrong. What was the problem of confessing the insecurities you felt in a relationship? Was that really such a horrible thing?

"It is a horrible thing," Jay told the Puckerman girl as she closed her locker, her eyes widening in disbelief at her friend's words. "Matteo was just concerned. Narcolepsy's a big deal y'know. I did my research."

"Yeah, cool, love that for you and all, but that doesn't mean he should treat me like a baby," Nellie argued, a scoff escaping her lips as she walked down the hallway. "I mean, that's like me treating you like an infant because of your depressing mommy issues."

"Ugh, don't remind me," Jay rolled his eyes, smiling widely when Mercedes blew a kiss his way. "You know she tried to send me a postcard of her and her stupid new family? I ripped it up and threw it in the trash so my dad couldn't see. He's going through a tough time as is."

"Jeez, sorry Jay," Nellie rubbed his back in a sympathetic manner, sighing deeply before walking inside of glee club. "Change of topic from family and relationship drama. You and Sam have been getting oddly closer, considering the fact that you two have barely spoken a word to one another since being in glee."

"Oh," Jays cheeks flushed a deep red, something that Nellie picked up on almost immediately causing her to raise a brow. "It's actually a really funny story actually. Sam shrunk the majority of his clothes since he didn't know how to wash them, so i was letting him borrow mine. We actually have a lot in common. Did you know his favorite color is blue? That's my favorite color!"

"Yes Jay, I've been friends with Sam way longer than you," Nellie playfully rolled her eyes as she sat in her seat, as far away from Matteo as possible. She figured that in order to win back his affection, space was needed between the two of them. Nellie only hoped that this would prove to be effective and not a complete disaster. "Look, I just need to get past this week and not let any of this drama affect me."

"Oh yeah, totally good advice from the person who just had a mental breakdown in the bathroom," Jay snarked, Nellie shooting him a look before yet again rolling her eyes. Her gaze soon went from the floor to Matteo who had walked inside of the choir room, his eyes flickering over to hers for a moment before taking a seat in the corner. Great. This just kept getting worse and worse. A small sigh escaped Nellie's lips before facing forward once more, her heart already breaking into pieces.

"Ok everyone, let's hear it for love!'' Mr.Shue exclaimed, bursting into the choir room with an enthusiastic grin on the corners of his lips. "Your assignment this week is to find and perform the world's greatest love songs. Now regionals is next week and we still need to raise $250 for costumes and hairspray.''

Now normally, Nellie and Matteo would have this assignment in the bag, however that proved to not even be the case, for the couple didn't even bother to sit near each other, especially for Valentine's Day week. Jay reached across the choir room to grab onto Mercedes hands, pressing a small kiss to it moments later causing for her to giggle loudly.

"Oh god, not another bake sale.'' Kurt uttered underneath his breath, Nellie snickering as she felt her mood brighten up slightly.

"If any student gives a ten dollars, we will go around and sing the worlds greatest love songs to their valentines,'' Mr.Shue continued to explain. "We'll serenade each classroomβ€”"

"You've got to be kidding me," Matteo muttered, rolling his eyes in a disinterested manner. "Mr.Shue, I feel as if one person throws something at me, I might get expelled."

Mr.Shue rolled his eyes at the Gomez boys words, instead focusing on Sugar who had her hand raised. "Yes, Sugar?"

"Here's a spoonful of Sugar for you all:Don't sweat the small stuff, and it's all small stuff when you're rich," Sugar spoke, making her way over to Mr.Shue and holding out a wad of cash. "So, here you go."

"Uh, Sugar, I can't take that."

"Take it!" Kurt demanded, Nellie rapidly nodding her head in agreement as she leaned forward.

"Okay," Mr.Shue hesitated before taking the cash. "Everyone, give it up for Sugar for paying for our FinalNet and cumberbunds!"

"I love the sound of applause, even if I have to buy it," Sugar dramatically sighed. "Okay, everyone, look under your chairs. Expect you, Artie. Your chair kept moving, so I hid your surprise in the wastebasket."

Nellie furrowed her brows before reaching under her seat, pulling out a box of chocolates. Her eyes immediately widened at the kind gesture. Matteo on the other hand didn't seem too enthusiastic, rolling his eyes and stuffing the chocolate into his bag. God, it reminded Nellie of when they first met, and not in a good way either.

"I found mine ten minutes ago," Puck muttered, Nellie turning her head to see her brothers face smothered in chocolate.

"V-Day is my fave day ever. And to help me celebrate, my daddy's throwing me a huge, ridic party at Breadstix. And I'm naming it the Sugar Shack. And drumroll, Rachel......you're all invited!" Sugar continued, Nellie squeaking before clapping her hands together. "But you have to bring a date. No single people allowed."

"Oh, darn," Matteo sarcastically muttered, both Nellie and Puck shooting him a deadly glare. "Sucks to suck I guess."

"Uh, but you're single," Mercedes pointed out to Sugar, shifting the topic away from Matteo's comment.

Sugar shrugged her shoulders, slipping on her sunglasses. "Not for long."

As the way went on, Nellie slowly began to feel worse and worse. Matteo's passive aggressive comments ignited an anxiety in her, one that had refused to go away even as she contemplated banging her head against the wall in order to rid herself of the thoughts. For what if things would never truly be the same again? What if she was just destined to be alone due to her own insecurities? It got to the point where Nellie cried in the bathroom for a good ten minutes over a boy who owned her heart in ways she couldn't even describe. And so Nellie sat at the lunch table with her head hung low ,listening to her friends speak about who they were bringing as their date to Sugars Valentine's Day Party. For the first time in Nellie's entire high school career (which was only two years, not that long if you truly thought about it) , she was going to stay home from a party. A Valentine's Day party at that. Some life she was choosing to live.

"Wait, which one are you going to take to Sugars V -Day party?'' Tina questioned, referring to Pucks story about a group of sorority girls he had met and was planning to take to the party.

"All of them.'' Puck replied without hesitation, Nellie raising a brow as she picked through the sandwich which sat on her plate.

"The entire sorority?'' Jay repeated, feeling rather concerned on his friends behalf.

"They dont call them E-Z-Dee-Zees for nothing,'' Puck began to explain. "I got the gig cleaning the sorority house swimming pool, then I sawed through those chicks like a freakin' sex tornado.''

"Gee, thanks for making me loose my appetite,'' Nellie scoffed, pushing her food aside as she held her head in her hands. That and the fact that the death glares Matteo was shooting her from across the table made her want to vomit into the nearest trash can she could find. So much so to the point where she tuned out for the majority of the conversation about Puck and his stupid sorority girls. That was until Kurt began to speak about his secret admirer (who was also Blaine, big surprise there) sending him valentines even if he was still recovering from his eye injury.

"It says from your secret admirer.'' Artie read from the card, Nellie leaning forward to do the same as well.

"So romantic. Ooh. A gorilla gram. Pour moi? To Kurt. From your secret admirer. Again. Well, I wonder who it could be. Will you tell me who it is? Gorilla Gram?'' Kurt raised a brow as the person dressed in the gorilla suit shook their head and walked off. "You see, Puckerman, thats what you're missing out on. True love.''

"Yeah, yeah, true love, so amazing. Rory, who are you taking to the party?'' Jay questioned, completely changing the topic.

Rory simply shrugged his shoulders. "Sugar.''

"Hold up. You better have an option B because I'm all over that.'' Artie interrupted, Jay 'oooing' under his breath in order to instigate.

"You're going with Sugar?''

"As soon as I ask her out. And she says yes, which I'm sure she will because i don't mean to sound mean, Irish, but nobody understands anything you say.''

''Baloney. Chicks digs accents." Rory scoffed.

"I'm sorry, what? Couldn't quite get that.'' Artie retaliated, Nellie snickering under her breath as she watched the situation unfold before her.

"Fellas, there's no need to fight. You can just pick up the girls that fall off old Puckerosaurus here,'' Puck attempted to diffuse the situation, which really wasn't helping at all. "Look, if you want advice on how to win over a girl, just look over at Matteo. Dudes a saint. I don't even know how he does it sometimes.''

"Oh, well, apparently it isn't enough,'' Matteo mumbled underneath his breath, rolling his eyes as she began to pack his belongings and sling his bag over his shoulder as Nellie could fell her heart sink to her feet for about the millionth time in the last couple of days or so. "And just so everyone is aware, I'll be staying home for this stupid party."

"What the hell crawled up your ass and died?" Puck demanded, growing defensive for his sister. "I know you're not talking about my sister like that. The hell did she do to you anyway?"

Matteo didn't bother to stick around and answer, for seconds later he had walked out of the cafeteria, most likely in the direction of the bathroom. Nellie hesitated before picking herself up from her seat as well, no longer able to handle the feeling of her heart being crushed each time a sarcastic comment escaped Matteo's lips or a dirty glare shot her way which seemed to grow more intense each and every time. Nellie sucked in a breath as she grabbed Matteo's wrist in a deadly tight grip, spinning him around so the two were now face to face. It was the first time the couple had made direct eye contact in days, which was a new record for them. Somehow this made Nellie feel even worse as she pulled away just as quickly as she had grabbed him, wrapping her arms around herself in order to shield herself from the blows that she knows are inevitable.

"What do you want?" Matteo spat, his eyes narrowing into that same glare that Nellie had grown to despise. "Look, you said you wanted space. So I'm giving you the space you crave so much."

"That's not what I said and you know it," Nellie argued, her anger beginning to replace the guilt she couldn't help but feel. "I-I said I didn't want you hovering over me all the time over something I can control. It's not fair that you're throwing a tantrum over this! Come on babe, we're better than this!"

"Oh, you can take care of yourself, huh?" Matteo allowed for a dry laugh to escape his lips as he leaned against the locker, seeming genuinely appalled by Nellie's statement. "Says the girl who forgot to take her meds for a week which almost caused for her to go to the hospital? The same girl who's insecure over something there's no reason to be insecure over? You have no right to stand there and act like you're the victim, because you're not. Far from it, Nellie. The second you grow up and realize that, things will be all picture perfect just like you want."

"You are such a hypocrite," Nellie whispered, her vision becoming blurred with the warm crystal tears that streamed down at her cheeks at a rapid pace. "Don't you dare stand there and tell me that I'm being some big baby because I'm expressing my feelings, which is something that I normally don't ever do because I'm so busy handling yours! It's not fair to me, and I'm sick of pretending that this is normal."

"Oh, so if we're such pains in the asses go each other, maybe we should stay away from each other completely!" Matteo seethed, his voice raising to the point where students froze in their tracks, ease dropping in on their conversation.

"Fine!" Nellie shouted back just as loudly, throwing her hands up in the air just to mask how hurt she was by the argument that was taking place. Shes never experienced a breakup before, her brother being too overprotective to even allow for her to get into a relationship. But if this was how it felt to get heartbroken in the movies, then she felt bad for anyone who had to portray such an emotion, because it hurt. Matteo watched the sobs that escaped from Nellies lips, clenching his jaw in order to prevent himself from caving and pulling her into his arms right then and there. Instead, he walked away, leaving Nellie all alone just like he did on the bleachers.

                   ************
Nellie contemplated on showing up to glee club the day after her argument with Matteo, for locking herself in a bathroom stall and crying until she couldn't breathe would've been the much better option. It had now officially been two weeks since the bleacher incident, and the thin ice that was once keeping the couple together had now cracked, allowing for the two to sink under the freezing cold water. Nellie tried to smile and seem as if everything was alright in front of her friends, however that was becoming harder and harder as the days went on, the strained smile becoming more visible.

"Artie, wheels on the floor please," Mr.Shue spoke as he walked inside of the choir room, referring to Artie who was showing off to Sugar in order to warn her as his date to the upcoming party. "Rachel, you had an announcement?"

"Yeah, actually, Finn and I have an announcement we'd like to make." Rachel replied, grabbing Finn's hand as they made their way to the front of the choir room. "Finn and I are proud to announce that we're finally getting married."

Instead of applause, only confused whispers traveled throughout the choir room. It wasn't as if Nellie was that surprised, for she was one of the first people to find out about the engagement. At first she had been reluctant the accept it, however she knew that you couldn't control true love, no matter how hard you tried to do so.

"When's the baby's due date?" Puck questioned, the first of the group to ask a question.

"Wait, guys, have you both carefully thought this through?" Mr.Shue added.

"Yes. And our parents are totally behind us," Rachel nodded her head. "And your plan to stop us totally backfired, Mr.Shue."

Kurt raised his hand, taking the blame away from Mr.Shue who seemed to not have done anything wrong. "Actually, I'm the one who told them. Because I think you guys are making a mistake. A huge mistake."

"When's the wedding?" Quinn asked, also not a huge fan of the idea.

"The date is TVD, but I can assure all of you that we're gonna have a very simple and elegant ceremony at the Justice of the Peace, which all of you are invited to. And we registered at Samuel French." Rachel explained, Nellie sighing deeply and shaking her head. It seemed as if everyone was growing happy in their relationship besides her

"You guys aren't mature enough or old enough to properly face this type of commitment."

"If you don't support us, then I feel sorry for you, and you're not invited to the wedding. Which makes me really sad, because I would have loved to have seen you in a bridesmaid dress, Quinn. And you as well Kurt."

"I'd be happy to be a bridesmaid, Rachel," Tina commented, seeming to have a more positive outlook on the entire situation. "I'm not sure I'm ready to get married, but I do know what being in love feels like."

"We'll be there." Mike assured, grabbing onto his girlfriend's hand.

"Thanks, guys," Finn smiled, appreciative of the little support he received. "And we hope the rest of you all change your minds, because it would mean a lot to us if you were there."

"Well, add me to the list of people who are wishing you guys the best in your marriage," Artie stated, wheeling over to the middle of the choir room. "However, let's stop the fighting and remind ourselves that Valentine's Day is rapidly approaching. So if you'll excuse me, I got some sugary sweet game to spit."

"I didn't speak up in class, but I wanted to say I'm 100% behind you," Santana spoke as her, Rachel and Nellie walled down the courtyard. "I fully support your right to be unhappy with Finn for the rest of your lives. You should be able to love whoever you want."

"Thanks, Santana. And although you're been very quiet about your support lately, I want to thank you as well Nellie."

Nellie only smiled softly and nodded her head. "Just doing the bare minimum."

"Excuse me? Are you Miss Rachel Berry?" Mercedes questioned, walking up to the trio of girls who seemed confused as to what was going on.

"Um, yeah." Rachel replied, furrowing her brows.

"We're the God squad, and we're here to deliver a vocal valentine from the one Finn Hudson."

           [Stereo Heart-God Squad.]

As the song ended, Nellie could feel that familiar pang her heart that she dreaded so dearly. She hated feeling jealous over others peoples love, but that was supposed to be her smiling widely and having a song sung to her. Instead she was in the background, a mere bystander to the love in front of her. Nellie wrapped her arms around herself as she walked off without anybody noticing, crying quietly to herself as
