As you approached your parent's driveway, you took notice of your dad's car parked.
You walked up to the door and rang the doorbell, hoping it wasn't your dad that answered.
But unfortunately, a rather grumpy looking man opened the door.
"It's you," he scoffed.
Excuse me? You thought, raising an eyebrow.
Without even bothering to invite you inside, he left, leaving you to wander in by yourself.
"Mum?" You called out, seeing if anyone would respond.
She emerged from around the corner, head immersed into a magazine she was reading.
You called out to her again, and she looked up.
"What are you doing here!?" she asked, eyes widening with excitement.
"I thought I'd come down and visit," you walked towards her before she pulled you into a hug.
"You came at a perfect time because I'm holding a little get-together later on!"
"Oh, who's coming?"
"Just me, Giyuu's mum and Giyuu, and about 50 other people. It's to celebrate my new promotion!"
"Oh wow, congrats, mum," you smiled before making your way to your childhood bedroom.
It still looked the same. Nothing had been moved, which was sort of a relief.
You popped into your brother's room to say hello, to which they tackled you to the ground in response.
It was nice to be back, and you were excited to see Giyuu later on.
-
The doorbell rung.
"Y/nnn, can you grab the door? That'll be the first set of guests," your mum called out from the kitchen.
You ran to open the door, and to no surprise was met with Giyuu's mother and father, and of course, Giyuu
"Hey, come on in, my mum's just in the kitchen,"
Giyuu gave you a very subtle smirk as he trailed in after his mother.
You ended up going back to the kitchen to give your mother a hand, only to find her gossiping with Giyuu's mum.
"Boo." a soft voice said as you got out some plates.
You turned around.
"I didn't expect to see you here," you stated.
"Likewise," a subtle smirk tugged at the corner of his lips.
"Where are the glasses?" he asked.
"Top left,"
He proceeded to fill one up with water before heading back to where his mum was sitting.
Something about having Giyuu round now was exciting. Even though he had been here countless times, there was a certain tension between you, one that wasn't there before.
Guests started to pour in through the front door slowly, and of course, they all went to you, hounding you with questions about university, your dating life, and more.
"No, grandma, I'm not seeing anyone, and I don't plan on getting married anytime soon," you assured.
You ended up slipping away to your bedroom for a little while, just to get a break from such a busy atmosphere.
-
"Hiding already?" he asked, leaning against the doorway of your bedroom.
You glanced up from your phone, to which he more or less took as an invitation to go inside
"I love them, but it felt like I was being interrogated.
"I can imagine," he perched himself on your bed, his eyes roaming to all the decor and trinkets scattered around your bedroom.
"Is that still there?" he gestured towards the infamous paint stain.
"Yep," you sighed.
-
"Y/n?" Your mother called your name.
You got up and walked to the kitchen.
"I forgot to get dessert, " she spoke. "Would you mind popping out and getting some?"
"There's a dessert shop that does really good profiteroles and eclairs. Take my grumpy son with you. He knows what I'm talking about," Giyuu's mum chimed in and gestured to the man next to you.
You slightly snorted at that last comment, which earned you a slightly sarcastic and teasing look from Giyuu.
You slipped on an old pair of shoes and a hoodie that you found almost gathering dust at the bottom of your wardrobe before meeting Giyuu outside the house.
His hands were in his pockets as he watched you lock the door from outside.
"Where's the shop your mum was talking about?"
"It's not far, just opposite that old Manga store that's been there longer that we've been alive. My mother is obsessed with it. "
"Is that why I'm having to take her grumpy son with me?" You grinned.
He playfully poked the side of your stomach, causing a soft chuckle to escape your lips.
You continued walking down the path, a slight bounce in your step. As Giyuu said, it didn't take long for you to arrive.
You were slightly shocked at how much they sold, as well as the prices, but you figured it was worth it.
"How many did she say we need to buy?" he asked.
"She didn't, but I'm assuming they're for everyone,"
He turned so he was facing the counter.
"50 profiteroles please," he stated to the cashier, with the most nonchalant expression.
The girl behind the counter looked at him with wide eyes.
"Coming right up..."
It took nearly 15 minutes for all 50 profiteroles to be sealed and packaged. By the time the lady behind the counter had finished, she looked like she had run a marathon.
You gave her an apologetic look before paying with your dad's credit card.
-
"Christ, what took you guys so long?" Your mother asked after opening the door and letting you inside.
"Nothing," you shrugged before handing her the bag, "but there are quite a lot of people here,"
You made your way back to the living room, where you chatted with a few more family friends. Your mum talked about her promotion a little, and your dad even came and said hello before scurrying back to his office.
You placed the profiteroles down on a table that was jam-packed, with appetisers, snacks, wine, and more.
"Sorry we were playing dinosaurs," Giyuu suddenly walked into the room with your younger brother on his hip.
You corners of your mouth turned up, watching you little brother so happy.
Giyuu placed him down shortly, allowing him to run back to your mum.
"He likes me more," he said, watching your brother tug at your mother's dress.
"Nuh uh." You shook your head.
"How long until this is over?" Giyuu ran a hand through his hair.
"I wish I knew," you sighed. "I'm getting so bored."
"We could leave and take a detour somewhere..." he suggested.
"It's 10pm, and it's cold and dark."
"Touchรฉ," he nodded.
-
The night was young, and it wasn't until almost midnight that your mum decided to wrap everything up and call it a night
You and Giyuu helped put away everything, and ended up eating any leftover food whilst watching whatever was on the TV.
Your brothers were asleep, and your dad had gone to bed, too.
The mothers were talking and gossiping in the kitchen, leaving you and Giyuu in quite the comfortable silence.
And right before everyone else, a moment of realisation kicked in.
Maybe this wasn't going to be such a bad trip after all.
