Rocking up to your boyfriend's apartment unannounced wasn't exactly how you had planned to spend your Friday evening.

You felt sick to the stomach, thinking about all the worse case scenarios. And the closer you got, the more the air became thick with something that made it hard to take even the smallest of breaths in.

After approaching his apartment complex, you stopped to take a deep breath.

You dragged your feet up the stairs before finally getting to his door.

It was so silent. You could hear your heartbeat echo throughout your ears.

With a heavy heart, you lifted your arm up and knocked on the door.

No answer.

You knocked again.

No answer.

You knocked one last time.

And before you knew it, the door clicked open softly.

-

You barely recognised him at first.

He looked tired.

So tired.

His eyes were glossy, as if he'd been crying, and his hair was down and slightly messy.

Your eyes locked, and within moments, his lips were trembling, and you were through the door, with your arms wrapped around him.

He broke down in your arms. right there, and then.

"I'm sorry," he muttered between sobs. "I'm so sorry,"

You shook your head and cupped his face in your hands, wiping the tears as they fell with the pad of your thumb.

His body grew slightly heavier as you held him, almost as if he was close to falling asleep right there and then.

You ended up on the sofa, and as you brought back some hot tea you had made in his kitchen, he began talking.

"I had this friend," he began. "His name was Sabito, and he was my best friend growing up, we did almost everything together,"

He took a deep breath.

"I think I was about 13 at the time. He was staying at my house one evening whilst both our parents were out. I literally went to the supermarket opposite the house for ten minutes and when I came back he was gone. Undected heart condition that resulted in a sudden death."

He ran a hand through his hair.

"I isolated myself for years and felt severely guilty and depressed. It got better when I started Uni, and then when we reconnected, but I think all the stress that comes with being in my final year and the fact it was the anniversary of his death made me spiral again,"

"Oh my god, Giyuu, I had no idea,"

"Your mum or mine never mentioned anything?" he asked.

"No." You gently shook your head."I'm so sorry," you pulled him into your arms.

"It's fine, Y/n, don't worry your pretty head about me, we'll get through it together,"

A reassuring smile crept up on your face, and you squeezed his hand.

"Now come on," you said. "Go shower, and then we can go on a walk and get something to eat,"

"Yes ma'am," he got up, leaving you on his couch.

-

Almost thirty minutes later, he returned in a set of fresh clothes. He looked a bit more alive this time, and the colour had returned to his face.

You walked out into the fresh air, to which Giyuu immediately let out a sigh of relief.

It was dark, but with the street lights and atmosphere from shops and restaurants, it still felt like day.

You meandered through the city, his hand in yours, going from shop to shop.

You even bought him flowers.

"You're adorable," he muttered before kissing the top of your nose.

"Where would you like to eat?" you asked.

"The steak restaurant up ahead if you wouldn't mind,"

You guided him inside, and the waitress placed you at a table that overlooked the city.

"Are you feeling any better?" you asked.

"Much," he said, stretching out his arm across the table and placing his hand over yours.

"That makes me so happy," you smiled.

The food arrived shortly, and after a long and talkative meal, you asked for the bill and wandered back into the night.

The moon could be seen, bringing out the stars and constellations, and as you and Giyuu walked around, you began to realise how much you cared for him.

Even more than before.

So much that you could say you...
