The early morning sun burned your eyes, as your younger brothers came running in, screaming and laughing like 7 year olds do. You groaned and buried your face in your pillow, avoiding eye contact with all that was around you as they perched themselves on the edge of your bed and pulled back your bedroom curtains.
You forced yourself to sit up, rubbing your eyes in the process, trying to make sense of what was going on.
Laughter echoed around your bedroom, and the aroma of breakfast invited your senses to the kitchen. As you yawned for what already seemed like fifth time, the realisation of what day it was finally clicked.
Today, you would find out if you had been accepted into your dream university.
A smile crept up on your face; feelings of excitment rushed through your body, making you look forward to the day ahead.
You finally heaved yourself out of bed, stepping past your brothers who were playing with plastic dinosaurs as you went to go take a cold shower.
It was a beautiful day. A hot summers day, but beautiful nonetheless. The feeling of cold water on your skin was exactly what you needed to wake up. You smiled and sighed as the water ran down your skin and you washed the shampoo out of your hair.
You stepped out the shower, wrapping a big, fluffy towel around you, letting its warmness engulf you, like a hug.
As you finished off your skin and hair care, you began to assume the worst.
What if you didn't get accepted.
Then what.
You had been working so hard to get into this particular university, staying up until the early hours of the morning to make sure your portfolio was finish, sacrificing your precious sleep schedule and time for your friends. What if it didn't work out and all that effort went to waste?
"Think positive," you thought, staring into the mirror "it'll work out...it always does,"
After getting dressed, you made your way down to the kitchen.
Your dad was at the table, holding a newspaper in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other, his eyes fixated on the article he was reading.
Your mother gave you welcoming smile as you approached the table.
"Good morning Y/n, how did you sleep?"
Just as you opened your mouth to answer her, a low voice from behind the newspaper interupted you.
"It's 10am,"
"I know," you responded, in the same tone.
"I thought I mentioned last week that I would like you awake and ready by 9 at the latest," he stated, eyes still on the paper.
"Sorry, I uh...had a bad night," you responded looking down at the table.
He sighed and shook his head as he turned his newspaper around, muttering something under his breath
It was hard to get along with your dad, you both had different values and different ideas for the future, he didn't see things like art as something you could take forward as a proper career and was fixated on you studying things like buisness and economics.
An awkward tension arose in the air as your mother continued cooking, your siblings were in their rooms, watching TV and your dad was still reading that fucking newspaper.
In order to break the awkward silence, you attempted to start conversation.
"I'm getting my acceptance email today," you blurted out.
"Really? Thats wonderful sweetheart!" your mother exclaimed.
"Dad?" you glanced at him.
He finally put his paper down, sighing loudly, earning him a 'be nice' look from your mother.
"That's great, did you apply for the course we talked about?"
Shit.
You hadn't told your dad you were majoring in art because you knew what his reaction would be.
The air became thick, as you tried to come up with an answer in a matter of seconds. In the end, you settled with a nod and a simple "mhm"
He finished his coffee and pressed the mug firmly down on the table, whilst finally closing the newspaper and laying it to the side.
"I'm glad you've finally come to your senses," he half heartedly smiled and got out of the chair.
"I've got a meeting in about 10 minutes with a major CEO so don't disturb me," he pointed a finger at you and your mother before dissapearing into the depths of his office once more.
Your mother came next to you and pulled you into a hug.
"Don't let him get to you, he's just a grumpy, old man who doesn't get out the house enough, i think it's great that you're majoring in what you're passionate about,"
She placed a plate of pancakes in front of you, topped with maple syrup, making your eyes sparkle like a kid at christmas.
Just as you finished your food, your phone buzzed, revealing the notification you had been waiting for.
With a heavy heart and shaking hands, you pressed on the notification.
Dear Miss L/N,
I am delighted to inform you have been accepted into Wisteria University under your chosen courses.
We hope to see you soon...blah blah blah
You didn't even bother to read the rest of the email.
A sigh of relief escaped your mouth, alerting your mother, who was making some weird ass smoothie that was meant to make you look younger.
"So? Did you get in?" she turned her head to look at you.
"Yep! I'm officially accepted into Wisteria University"
"Wisteria?" she questioned "isn't that where Giyuu went?"
Giyuu.
Now that was a name you hadn't heard in a while.
His parents and yours were good friends, making you forced to see eachother a lot as kids.
But you hated him, and he hated you. There was lots of name calling and hair pulling and pushing eachother over.
You hadn't talked to him properly in a few years now, by the time you were 16 or so, you couldn't stand him and would make sure you avoided him at all costs, resulting in only seeing him at gatherings and parties with family and friends.
Lost in thought, you hadn't noticed your mother calling your name.
"Y/n...Y/N!"
You jolted sightly.
"Sorry I zoned out, what were you saying?"
"Giyuu...that he went to Wisteria,"
"He did?" your eyes widened in shock.
"I'm pretty sure, yeah" she turned back around to making her smoothie.
"Oh okay," you responded, attempting to act unbothered.
Fingers crossed you won't run into him...at all...preferably never.
You pushed your thoughts about Giyuu to the side, and practically skipped back to your bedroom with excitment. You creaked the door open and went to go sit down on your bed to process everything.
You were doing it, you were off to one of the best universities to pursue your life long dream.
So with that being said...
You took a deep breath...
And screamed into your pillow.
