"Y/n..." a high-pitched voice, called your name.
Mitsuri tried shaking you gently, which woke you up.
"You have a visitor..."
You rubbed your eyes and propped yourself up on your elbows.
The sun was just slowly starting to set, so it couldn't have been that late.
"Sorry for waking you, L/n. But I have a proposal,"
You couldn't just text me? You thought.
"It's fine..." You sat up properly and crossed your legs.
"The English department is hosting a literature festival next week. It's a pretty big and important event, and there's even a massive dinner afterwards,"
"What are you asking me, Tomioka?"
"Be my plus one?"
"I'll think about it." you said softly, thinking back to what you had witnessed earlier.
"Okay..." he responded before leaving a rather large envelope titled 'portfolio' on your kitchen counter and leaving your accommodation.
-
As you made dinner for yourself and Mitsuri, you thought about what Giyuu had asked you.
A part of you wanted to say yes, but then you remembered what you had seen earlier.
It was obvious there was something going on between them.
Which was fine.
He could date whoever he wanted.
You and Giyuu were just about friends, so there was no need to get caught up over who he did or didn't kiss.
Therefore...there was also no need to be his plus one. You figured it would just cause issues anyway and make things more complicated than they already are.
Temporarily satisfied with your decision, you sent Giyuu a message to let him know.
T
You
I have an art thing
next week, so I'll
be in the studio
T
Oh, okay.
Don't worry about
it.
You bit your lip and set your phone to the side, focusing on the pasta that was boiling.
You were just praying you were making the right decision, and this wouldn't come and bite you in the ass later on.
-
The weekend came by pretty quickly, which you were thankful for. You and your friends had planned to go out and watch a movie which gave you something to look forward to.
The movie was a cheesy rom com that was overly sappy, but no one seemed to mind. After such a long week, it was oddly relaxing.
6 large buckets of popcorn later, the movie was finished, and the midnight blue sky had made itself present.
However, as you exited the cinema and waited for Tengen to pull the car around, you spotted a familiar figure leaning against his own car.
With the same girl from the other day.
Again, your stomach churned, and you bit the inside of your cheek.
Mitsuri noticed you staring and gave your hand a reassuring squeeze and a sad look.
You weren't sure how to feel, but seeing them tugged at your heart strings a little.
You took a deep breath and squashed yourself inside Tengen's car next to Sanemi.
You were slightly tipsy, so stumbled out of the car when you arrived back on campus, grabbing Kyojuro's shoulder for support.
"Take it easy, Y/n!" he suggested, guiding you up the stairs.
Mitsuri unlocked the door, and you almost tripped going inside.
The pink haired girl gave you a glass of water, and almost immediately afterwards, you jumped into your bed.
-
You limped into the kitchen at around 11 am. the next morning, mouth dry and your eyes burning from the bright light.
You glanced towards the table and spotted a plate of scrambled eggs and a fresh smoothie.
"You angel," you murmured, slouching in the chair.
"After last night, you need it," she readjusted the pink apron she was wearing.
You weren't sure if she was referring to you drinking or seeing Giyuu.
You decided it was both.
"How are you holding up?" she asked, sliding in next to you.
It took you a few seconds to respond.
"Confused. I hate how he has this weird effect on me. I don't know what we are. And I'm just..."
Your breath hitched.
"Oh honey..." she offered a reassuring nod, doing her best to sympathise with you.
Later that day, your photography professor called you down to his office.
The door to his office was already open, the sound of his voice becoming very apparent as you entered.
"Hi Y/n, have a seat, Giyuu will be here shortly, " he smiled.
You guys hadn't spoken much recently. With the project being over, there wasn't really a need, and you had both been busy, some more than others.
Furthermore, after declining his invite to Wisteria's annual literature festival, it felt awkward.
Your train of thought was interrupted when you felt the presence of the black haired male behind you.
"Great! We're all here!" your professor exclaimed.
"I just wanted to commend and congratulate you both on such a brilliant portfolio! Highest grade in the class. "
A smile formed on your face.
"Thank you, Sir, truly."
"Yeah, that's good to hear," Giyuu chimed in.
"No problem! You guys work well, and it's a pleasure to have you both on this course,"
You talked to your professor a little more before he let you guys go.
"L/n."
My god, his voice did something to you.
You turned your head.
"Walk with me..."
As much as you didn't want to, you couldn't help it, so you caught up to him.
It was a silent walk to begin with, with the project being over, there was no need to talk to each other as much, so making conversation was starting to become a lot harder.
"How are you?" is what he began with.
"Fine...busy, I guess,"
"L/n."
"What?"
"You know we can still try and be friends even if the project is finished?"
"Can we, though? We were horrible to each other as kids, we don't have much in common, and to be honest, our communication skills aren't great,"
"I don't want to pretend like nothing ever happened, but I want us to at least try and move forward,"
"I don't think your girlfriend would be too happy with that."
Good one, Y/n.
"What the fuck are you talking about?" there was a slight bite behind his words.
Conflicted and confused, you turned around and stormed off, causing Giyuu to yell after you, once more.
You clenched your fists and continued walking, not even bothering to check behind you.
And once again, you were back to square one.
