Sophia was sitting in her car, driving to the triplets' house. It was going to be the first time she actually went to their LA house; the last time she saw them was in Boston.
When Chris sent her the address, she was shocked by how close it was. If she'd known this before, she would've gone over much sooner, much more often.
She danced to a song playing on the radio, trying to pay attention to the road. She threw one arm in the air, singing along to the lyrics and tapping her fingers on the steering wheel.
Once the song finished, a brief intermission and some elevator music started playing before the commentator began talking about a new hit album.
"Yesterday marked the release of a highly successful album by the artist Sophia Davis." When she heard those words come out of the car speakers, Sophia was captivated, swiftly turning up the volume to catch every detail.
"Sophia, known for her previous hit album 'Better Off By Myself,' made a comeback after a two-week absence from the internet. Her latest album, titled 'All Because I Liked a Boy,' has taken the music world by storm. Focused on the attention surrounding her connection with influencer Chris Sturniolo, the album has quickly claimed the top spot on the Billboard charts within just one day of its release. Each track is setting records, resonating particularly with young girls who find themselves relating to Sophia's experiences."
Sophia rolled her eyes at the mention of Chris; of course, they would talk about it. "Next up on xx radio, we've got the title track coming your way. It's 10 a.m. right now. Enjoy!" she heard the man speak enthusiastically.
Her song soon started playing, and that was her sign to turn the radio off. She'd been seeing all the hate comments slowly disappear, but she vowed never to forget how they treated her.
She got to the triplets' house complex and parked her car near the entrance. Walking with her phone in her hands, she tried to find the right house number.
She sighed in relief once she found it. She looked up to be left absolutely speechless, staring at an enormous house with walls almost touching the skyline.
Shaking off her nervousness, she rang the doorbell, waiting patiently for someone to open the door. Her foot tapped the floor while she admired the view.
Suddenly the door opened, and behind it stood Chris, so focused on his phone that he didn't even notice Sophia, but when she spoke up, he knew his eyes wouldn't leave her for the rest of the day.
"Hey, can I come in?" Sophia asked, pointing at the entrance of the house. Chris, baffled by her beauty, simply stepped aside. "Of course you can."
Sophia was wearing dark blue jorts, a white striped cropped top, and a red cap. To match her outfit, she had white Air Forces and some higher Nike socks.
Chris couldn't help but comment on her outfit. "You look amazing; I love your style," he said, giving her heart eyes. With her distracted by how he was looking at her, he took a chance and grabbed the cap from her head, putting it on himself.
Sophia smiled at this interaction. She'd missed Chris, a lot more than she'd like to admit. If she was being totally honest with herself, she regretted leaving him in the dust with her whole heart. She wished she could turn back time and not give up on them so fast.
But it was too late now.
Both walked side by side until they reached the living room. "Hey, guys," Sophia said, waving at the people sitting all over the living room and kitchen. She didn't get a second to breathe, and all her friends were already jumping on her, trying to hug the life out of her.
"We missed you so much, Sophia. The tour definitely wasn't the same without you," Sasha whispered into Sophia's ear. Sophia chuckled at her friend while pulling away and patting her shoulder. "Wouldn't want to separate the lovers, right Matt?" she asked, walking up to Matt.
Matt rolled his eyes before quickly enveloping her in his arms, in what Sophia thought was a bear hug too. "How have you been, Soph?" Matt asked, still hugging her. "I've been alright," she answered truthfully.
"OKAY! ENOUGH, IT'S MY TURN," Nick yelled before pulling the girl away from Matt and throwing his own arms around her as well. "I missed you too, Nick," she said, and Nick pulled back and smiled at him.
She turned to her friends, all the girls looking at her with guilty looks on their faces. They looked at each other. "Can we ask you something?" Madeleine spoke up, while she gulped hard.
Sophia approached her, putting a hand on her shoulder. "Of course, what's up?" she asked Madeleine. All the girls looked at the situation playing in front of them.
Madeleine kept looking at the floor, not daring to catch Sophia's eyes. "Are you mad that we stayed on tour, even after you left?" She whispered, and Sophia let out a loud laugh.
She grabbed her stomach. "You're kidding, right?" She asked. She looked around and when she saw nothing but sad faces, she realized that they were serious.
Her jaw fell on the floor. "Have you officially gone crazy?" She asked, just to be sure that she was hearing this right. All the girls nodded at her question.
Sophia's shocked reaction was substituted by a sad and emphatic expression, a little smile playing on her lips. "Of course I'm not? What the hell? I almost tied you to the ground so that you wouldn't leave!" Sophia asked while looking around the room.
"Did everyone think this?" She asked, and one after another, all nodded a response. Except of course one person. Chris.
"I tried to tell them that you wouldn't be mad; they didn't believe me," Chris shrugged while walking over to the counter and picking up the bag of chips that was lying there.
Sophia crossed her arms. "I guess Chris is the only one who actually knows me," she said. Chris already walking past her, throwing his arm up for them to high five. They did.
"So you were never mad?" Sasha asked.
"No, babe. I told you to stay because, clearly, you and Matt have something going on, even if you don't want to admit it," Sophia told her while pointing back at Matt. The shy boy hiding his face in his hands.
"And, we all spent three years admiring them, watching their videos and being their biggest fans. I could never take away an opportunity like this from you," She said, before walking over to her girls and hugging them one after another.
Nick, who had been quiet the whole time, decided to speak up. "Should we make this a sleepover?" He asked excitedly, and everyone immediately agreed.
Matt standing next to him decided to chime in with an interesting idea. "We should all watch a movie together," he said, while Chris and Sophia both called shotgun on the popcorn.
Chris walked over to Sophia. He leaned in closer. "Don't worry, I'll have no problem sharing my popcorn with you," he said as he lazily draped his arm over Sophia's shoulder.
Sophia looked at the arm that was around her. She couldn't form any words, in fear that her voice would betray her, so she settled for a simple nod.
Nova was already running to the couch, Aurora right after her. They both sat down, already choosing a movie for them all to watch. Matt, Nick and the others were soon to join them, leaving Chris and Sophia alone in the kitchen.
Sophia needed a distraction from the little space that was left between them because of Chris' touchy nature, so she shrugged his arm off and walked to the cabinets looking for the popcorn bag.
She found it, but it was on the highest shelf. She got on her tiptoes, trying her very best to reach it, but she was unable to. She let out a frustrated huff. But she soon felt a presence hover behind her, reaching over her and grabbing the popcorn.
She turned around. Chris had the popcorn in his hand, before he gave it to her. "Here," He whispered. His face inches away from Sophia's.
The tension was so thick that you could cut it with a knife. The hot bubbling feeling setting in both their stomachs.
Sophia tried to shrugg the feeling off,
while also trying to act unbothered. "Thank you," she said, clearing her throat and walking over to the microwave.
Chris came up behind her. "Do you know how to make popcorn?" He asked provocatively. Sophia turned around, a smirk on her face, while she crossed her arms, the perfect comeback in her mind.
"At least I don't take the popcorn out of the bag before putting it in the microwave," She hit back, causing a smile to spread on Chris' face.
This girl remembered everything.
Not done provoking her, Chris decided to continue speaking. "You know, I was the only one who didn't get a hug. I thought we had something special," Chris said, a fake pout on his lips, while he pointed between them.
Sophia rolled her eyes. She grabbed his hand. But she didn't interlock their fingers like she usually did. Chris decided to take the approach. He interlocked their fingers, leaving Sophia baffled.
"Come with me," Chris whispered, leading Sophia down the stairs. He walked up to an old door that when they opened, Sophia knew led to the garage.
Sophia wanted to continue walking, but Chris pulled her back by their interlocked hands. He didn't even let her catch her breath before he hugged her.
"I missed you more than I've ever missed anyone." He whispered, and hearing that made her hug back twice as hard. She felt tears threatening to spill, but she held them back.
"I missed you too, Chris." She answered. Chris leaned a little closer, and as a reflex, Sophia did too. Both getting closer, and when they were almost touching, Sophia remembered what happened the last time they did this.
She pulled back. "Sorry. I just- I can't," she let out a desperate breath. Chris' heart was clearly broken; she could see it on his face. But he decided to be the great guy he always was.
He pressed a kiss to her cheek. "It's okay," he said, a sad smile on his face. The air was a little awkward after the almost kiss, so to lift the tension, Chris came to a brilliant idea
He told Sophia not to move an inch, while he took out his phone. Shining the flashlight at her, he said, "Your fit's way too cool for us not to take pics," as he dramatically turned his phone in all directions.
Sophia was shy at first, but Chris knew exactly how to motivate her. "Come on, beautiful, pose so that I can take a picture." And so she did.
They spent some minutes capturing moments before Sophia told Chris that he'd gotten enough, to which he responded with a sly, "I could never get enough."
Leaning over his shoulder to look at the pictures of herself, Sophia loved them. "Can I post them?"
She thought about it, and after some seconds, she came to the conclusion that Chris was right. She shouldn't be living her life for other people. If she really wanted another chance with Chris, she needed to show him that she was serious about this.
"Post it."
