โ Didn't Want To Meet You Again โ
Camp Half-Blood wasn't that bad after all. Despite the noise and some nasty campers who couldn't bring themselves to accept Aquila and treated her as an outsider, many campers warmed up to her.
On the first day, many were hesitant to even speak with her. But then some girls from the Apollo cabin thought she was adorable and initiated a conversation at dinner that night. Human interaction โ well, at least half-human โ was something Aquila had to work on.
Chating endlessly with Vega was one thing, but conversing with actual people didn't come naturally to her. The Ares, Aphrodite, and Athena cabins were the only ones that didn't reach out to her. With the exception of Annabeth Chase, daughter of Athena.
Annabeth had become quite close to Aquila over time, Annabeth appreciated Aquila's love for books and knowledge and overall logical approach to everything.
Aquila was training with Daniel Rommet, a son of Hephaestus. Most of the children of Hephaestus are either creating something in their cabin but Daniel became her friend. If there was some Aquila could officially call a friend, it would be Daniel.
During one of the first capture of the flags, a game traditionally played in camp, the son of Hephaestus was about to be hit by a spear that Aquila deflected. And one of the few reasons their team won that day. Creativity and ideas for bizarre weapons (which were inspired by the Titan armory) interested Daniel and they'd gotten along quite well.
"I won. Admit your defeat, Dan, I'm exhausted." Aquila sighed. They dueled for more than three hours. Dan, as Aquila preferred to call him, wanted to defeat her but that happens only once in a blue moon. She learned all her techniques from Vega and Deimos, they both are skilled fighters.
"Okay, okay I give in. You won," he said. "but, your sword is amazing that's why you won."
Dan was always jealous of her sword, not that Aquila blamed him because indeed her sword was amazing. It was made of Astrean silver. Astrean silver is a magical metal extracted from asteroids and is mixed with silver only astronomical deities and their children can wield it.
The sword was carefully crafted by star nymphs and cooled in river Pallas. Pallas was the Titan of warfare, he was killed by Athena in the Titan war, but as Titans are immortal, he turned himself into a river of fire.
After Astraeus and Persus were released from their punishments, Astraeus moved the river to Astrelaia where he lived. Astraeus skipped the part about how a river of fire became water, but the story fascinated her enough to believe it.
"Yeah, keep saying that to yourself," she cooed, a small smirk creeping up her lips.
The orange camp tshirt she wore stuck nastily to her skin, drenched in sweat. She mentally gagged. I need a bath.
She grabbed a blue sundress from her bunch of clothes. Though Aquila liked to keep her things organized and neat, given the fact she lived in the Hermes cabin, it simply didn't work out. The chaotic environment and lack of a wardrobe (which was good in a way since anything might get stolen) got her to live a messy life herself.
After taking a quick shower, Aquila changed into fresh clothes and dried her hair. When she was on her way to polish her sword, Chiron stopped her.
"Ah Aquila, there's someone who would like to meet you,"
"Meet me? Who?" She questioned.
"Why don't you find out for yourself?" He gestured his hand to the outside of camp.
Aquila gave him a small nod and stalked towards the camp borders, she passed Thalia's tree and sure enough, there was a lady waiting for her.
As she inched closer, she could see the strawberry blonde hair, a tall silhouette. It was only halfway through July but the temperature seemed to drop a good twenty degrees when she finally realized who that was.
The woman turned, prim and proper, her hair was tied in an elegant knot and her pale face was void of any reaction. It was none other than Ellie Johnson.
A whirlwind of questions ran in Aquila's mind, searching for a answer. But she could only bring herself to ask one.
"What do you want?" The question rolled off Aquila's tongue with so much distaste that it was almost insulting.
The woman only raised an eyebrow in surprise.
"You do look like your father." she mused. "No one would believe that you are my and Asher's daughter. It's a good thing you chose to live with your father."
"You chose to live with your father." Lie. I didn't have a choice. But it was for the better.
"Not my decision but by far the best one of my life," Aquila's tone was iced.
"Well I just wanted to inform you that your Hogwarts acceptance letter had arrived," she held up an envelope sealed with the red letter 'H' "and the owl came to Johnson manor rather than this pathetic camp."
"This Camp is better than that place in every single way." Her so-called mother's eyes narrowed but she kept her tone neutral.
"Oh, is it? Whatever. You need to come with me to the wizarding world. We need to settle some things." She said the last part with indifference. Aquila sensed something was off, but didn't inquire further. It was not like Ellie wanted to kidnap her.
"Just get this done,"
They apparted to the ministry of magic, far from the main entrance. Something suddenly struck Aquila.
"How can my letter arrive while I'm still ten?" she asked.
"You'll turn eleven in early September, why waste another year?"
"Why would you care if I wasted a year?"
"Because things need to go a certain way," she stopped in her tracks. "I'm going to disown you."
The revelation took her by surprise, but Aquila managed not to show it.
"I thought you already did that by sending me away with a stranger." Aquila didn't let her voice give away anything.
"He wasn't a stranger, moreover your half-brother,"
"Eurus might be my half-brother or not, it doesn't commensurate the fact that you sent away a six-year-old with a man you barely knew." She argued.
Her father never mentioned it but Ellie Johnson abandoned her firstborn. She had been trying far too much to get rid of her and when finally the chance came. She gladly kicked her out. Little Aquila awaited her mother's call but eventually as years passed she understood what it all meant.
"I'm not here to make any unnecessary conversation with you Aquila," she said hastily.
Of course, discussing my problems was always called unnecessary conversations.
Her name comes from her mother's mouth and sounded so foreign and unsettling to her.
"But what does disowning me have anything to do with me attending Hogwarts a year earlier?" She changed the topic but the previous thoughts lingered in her mind.
It was hard for Ellie to hide her annoyance now. "It won't hurt you to attend Hogwarts young for eight days. Stop asking questions, Aquila."
Stop asking questions, Aquila. Those words were too familiar to hear again. Whenever she tried to ask anything her mother used to shut her down by saying that.
"I may not like you but I won't keep you from what's rightfully yours," Ellie said. They resumed walking.
Before Aquila got time to ponder what that meant, Ellie picked up her pace, they entered the ministry. She said something to the witch sitting in the lobby and the woman told them to go to office no. 13b. Which was only a few blocks away.
A man, probably in his early forties was sitting at a large table with a lot of paper and files.
He noticed them entering. "Ah Mrs. Johnson, Miss Scott. Take a seat," he welcomed them.
He glanced at the paper in his hand and started speaking.
"By disowning Miss Aquila Estelle Scott, you Mrs. Ellie Johnson nee Scott officially cutting any ties with your daughter. As the only heir to the family of Scott's, Miss Aquila will gain full rights to inheritance."
"Yes, I agree to the conditions," Ellie signed a couple of papers and passed them to Aquila. She didn't waste time reading but signed as soon as she was required to.
"Miss Scott," the man said, fixing her with his gaze. "You have lost your place in the family of Johnson and thus your name will be removed from the family vault."
"But on the other hand, the Scott manor, the Scott family vault along with a few family heirlooms and two houselves belongs only to you. It cannot be claimed by anyone else unless you permit them to do so."
Aquila only nodded, she wouldn't need anything that was now in her name. But that was the process, Aquila didn't refuse. After all, it was her birthright. Like how she was dragged into a world of immortals and monsters.
"Mrs. Johnson will later deliver the family heirlooms," he stated.
The pair walked out of the office, no longer mother and daughter but rather strangers with connected pasts. Ellie handed her the letter and the key to Scott manor.
"You still bear the name of a Scott," Ellie said as they stepped out of the ministry. "Live up to its reputation."
"I'm no longer accountable to you, you have no right to say what I'm supposed to do." Aquila's words were cold as the Antarctic. With one last glance at the lady who stood with her eyes glaring daggers, Aquila left the gates alone.
Finding her way into the world as a new person.
