calm down?" Jace says as he is finally able to stop her in the hallway that led to the church entrance

"Calm down?" Clary exclaims not wanting to be told what not to feel as she could barely separate what she was feeling "Really, calm down? Okay, Jace, you might be some kind of emotionless G.I. Joe, but—"

"I- What is a G.I. Joe?" Jace asks not understanding the connection the redhead was trying to make

"A soldier who doesn't understand human emotions, who doesn't know what it's like to lose someone. To lose your own mother." Clary explains as the only emotion she had seen Jace exhibit was that he cared for Hodge but even then his face stayed stoic

"You're right. I never knew my mother" Jace shares making Clary close her mouth in shock

"I didn't know"

"That's precisely my point. You don't know anything about this. You don't know about me, you don't know about my life... but in the Shadow World, no training and no plan gets you killed" Jace explains not wanting her to walk out of the building without a plan or at least not without some form of protection

Clary takes a few steps away from Jace and walks towards the wall to lean her back on it, "Okay, so we know that Valentine is back and wants the Cup, and for some reason, he thinks my mother has it"

"Could she? Have the Cup?"

"I don't know," Clary says hopelessly

"Look, Clary, you know about runes. You've drawn them. You... you know something. Think, please" Jace pressures Clary as the Cup was now a priority especially if the Circle was back

"I've tried, Jace, okay? It's just this empty blackness" Clary says making Jace finally understand how it was possible that she knew nothing about the Shadow world

"Your memory's been wiped"

"That's not possible." Clary says dismissing the possibility of someone or something being able to wipe a person's memory but then she remembered the new world she now lived in, "Is it?"

"Absolutely... if you know a warlock"

"A warlock? Like Ryn?" Clary questions still uncertain as to what a warlock in this new world meant as she only ever had heard that word when it was Halloween time or directed to a male

"Yeah, a warlock, Clary. Immortal beings, they're half-demon, half-human. Sometimes their fingers spark." Jace elaborates making Clary remember someones whose fingers sparkled and they weren't Brynne's

"Dot, my mom's assistant, her hands had this purple glow when she opened the wall, and my mom pushed me through and I ended up at the police station," Clary says having seen Dot's fingers spark while she had yet to see Brynne do any sort of magic, much less had she seen Brynne's fingers spark

"That was a Portal. Dot must have been a warlock. Only warlocks can create them"

"Wait, so you're saying if we find the real Dot, she could help us find the Cup and get my mom back?" Clary asks as she was now hopeful about finding her mother

"Unless she's working for Valentine," Jace says letting Clary know that Valentine was still an obstacle to them getting what they were after

"Even better. She'll lead us right to him." Clary says determined ready to walk back to the control room only to look back to Jace wondering where her friend was, "Where's Simon?"

Isabelle had not only been able to let Simon know that Jace was one of the best of the shadowhutners, what runes are, and able to help Clary find what she was in search for. She was also able to help Clary find a new outfit for the mission to find Dot and tell Clary how Jace was single and her brother.

Simon and Clary were in the training room, Brynne was still with Alec but the two didn't know that.

"Let's get out of here, just you, Ryn, and me. We can get Dot ourselves." Simon says having a quiet moment with Clary without prying eyes around

"Simon, there are demons out there, okay? Actual demons with tentacles that wanna murder us. Do you know how to kill a demon?" Clary asks knowing that Simon didn't know what they were up against, especially since he wasn't there to see what had attacked her

"I'm an internet search away. Plus I'm sure Ryn can show us how" Simon says making Clary like his plan less than before. It wasn't that she didn't trust Brynne anymore, it's more like Clary didn't want Brynne around them for all the secrets she kept to herself

"Simon, I really don't think it's that simple" Clary says as Isabelle walks past them and towards one of the screens on the wall

"I bet you it's not that hard," Simon says just as Izzy pushes a button and a shelf with various types and shapes of swards moves out of the wall

"Whoa," Clary says at the weapons

"No, Izzy," Jace says as he hits Izzy's hand as she was about to touch one of the swords

"Fifty bucks says he doesn't approve this mission," Isabelle says as she moves her finger along the flat side of a sword

"I don't approve of this mission." Alec voices walking into the training room with Brynne by his side "I spoke with the Clave. They're sending Seelie scouts to search for Valentine, but they made it clear, the little girl does not leave the premises and neither does the warlock"

"Hey, my name is not 'little girl', okay? I don't care what that Clave thinks or you want, I'm going to find Dot." Clary says determined making Brynne smile at the redhead's tone towards the authority Alec projected

"Alec, this warlock could have the answers we need. With Valentine's people out there searching for Clary, she's not safe outside alone" Jace states knowing that Alec would do the right thing in the end which means giving in to the mission

"Jace has a point," Isabelle says siding with Jace

"Et tu, Izzy?" Alec says looking at his sister who ignores his gaze before he turns to Clary "All right, since you have all the answers, where do you suggest we search?"

"We should start at Dot's apartment in Greenpoint, and there's this thrift store that she... " Clary says as she touches her mother's necklace and sees Dot running into the Pandemonium

"What's wrong? What is it?" Jace asks as it seemed Clary was now in their presence

"I, um... Weirdly, I think I know where Dot is" Clary says not knowing if what she had just envisioned was true or not but it was a start

"Great Simon will drive us there," Brynne says looking at Alec with a smile "Unless that is if a magic ban wasn't what the Clave also instructed for me"

Simon looks down at the floor speaking up, "You were kidding about the runes on the floor killing me... right?"

Jace looks over to Alec who lets out a smile making Jace look at Isabelle who smiles as well. Jace turns to Simon before responding "Possibly" as he pats Simon's shoulder

"Wait... am I gonna die?" Simon asks as the group starts to make their way out of the institute

Brynne places her hand on Simon's shoulder and with a kind smile says, "Don't worry. No ones dying on my watch"

At Pandemonium Magnus had opened a portal to lead other warlocks to safety.

"Hurry up, warlocks. Last train to salvation" Magnus says as drinks a cocktail while keeping the portal open. Just as Dot had run into the empty club in search of help and was glad to see that he was still near.

"Magnus! Hey." Dot says running to Magnus and she touches his shoulder to make him turn around to face her "Why haven't you answered my messages? Jocelyn's missing and I—"

"I've been a little busy protecting our people from certain death," Magnus tells her as techno music played, no one having turned it off nor the monitors illuminating their conversation with dance lights

"What are you talking about?" Dot questions not knowing why their people needed to be on the run

"Jocelyn's brilliant plan is screwed. Valentine knows a warlock brewed the potion that put her to sleep. He's hunting warlocks down one by one" Magnus explains his voice filled with no sympathy

"What, so you're leaving?" Dot asks

"You've always been the quick study, Dorothy. It's our only choice until we know what Valentine is up to. Let's go" Magnus says as he takes a hold of Dot's shoulder walking towards the portal, stopping right in front of it

"No, I... I can't. I've been Portaling all over the city looking for Clary. I can't track Ryn nor can I reach her. My magic is dangerously low. I need your help." Dot says desperately

"Are you really going to risk your life for a Shadowhunter?" Magnus questions not understanding how Brynne and Dot were so willing to help shadowhunters, especially without any gain on their part

"This isn't us versus them, Magnus. If Valentine gets the Cup, we're all doomed" Dot says but it was no use as Magnus had his mind already made

"Valentine can't kill what he can't find. Last chance to save yourself." Magnus says making him walk backward towards the Portal with his arm extended out for Dot to take. And when she doesn't he disappears letting the portal itself disappear. Dot skeptically walks out of the Pandemonium running into Valentine's men who have been waiting on her and attack.

Simon, Brynne, and the Shadowhunter walk down an alleyway following Clary who leads the search. Clary touches her portal shard necklace only to stop in her tracks and sees Dot surrounded by Circle members and shouts, "No"

Clary comes back to reality in the realization that Dot was in trouble, "Dot. Dot!"

Clary runs towards the club making the gang run behind Clary. Jace not knowing what happens calls out to the redhead as he was the closest to reaching her, "Clary! Clary, stop! Where are you going?"

Clary stops running having seen the spot where the portal shard told her Dot was at, "Two men, Circle members... the same ones who came to my house, who took my mom. They have Dot. They're gonna hurt her or kill her. We have to stop them!"

Clary runs into the club making the rest follow after her. All of them having been in the club when it was packed, are now met with an empty one. Clary doesn't stop running until she reaches the area behind the yellow curtains, still having yet to be met by anyone

"No. She was just trying to help me" Clary says as she touches the necklace but she doesn't feel or see Dot anymore "Now, she's gone"

"Clary, I'm sorry," Simon says as he touches Clary's shoulder

"You don't understand. Dot's like my big sister" Clary says making Brynne look around the club trying to see if she can picture Magnus having been in the club but she knew that he would have left meaning there was a threat against warlocks, but she didn't know why.

"It's not safe here. We have to go back to the Institute right now" Alec says making Clary look at Jace not ready to give up

"So, what now? Valentine has my mom and Dot, and we're just gonna give up? What about my memories? They can't just be gone?"

"There's another option," Jace says looking at his siblings who knew exactly what he was suggesting and it was a dangerous suggestion

At the same time, Isabelle and Alex respond with, "Don't even—" and "Absolutely not"

"I'm not afraid of the Silent Brothers," Jace tells them

"Who are the Silent Brothers?" Clary asks curiously

"Shadowhunters with superior powers" Brynne speaks up catching the three siblings' attention with her knowledge as they took her as a newbie of the shadow world. Brynne puts her hands in her jacket pocket playing with the lint in her pocket "They possess the ability to recover memories"

"A process that can also kill you, so there's that," Alec says looking at Clary with no emotion but was telling the truth

"Your bedside manner is abysmal," Simon says as he points at Alec with a smile

"We've broken at least 18 Clave rules and now you want to go to the City of Bones? There's no way. I won't allow it" Alec tells Jace making them intensely look at each other

"This isn't our choice to make. This is Clary's decision" Jace says making Clary look at him as she was close to making up her mind

"You can't ask her to do this. She doesn't know what she's facing. She's not prepared" Isabelle says whispering the last part

"If anyone can tell me another way to recover my memories and still get the answers we need, I'm listening," Clary says making everyone stay silent no one else knew of another way for Clary to recover her memories. Brynne knew who had taken away her memories but didn't believe that he still had them, Magnus was smarter than that. With the silence that followed, Clary made up her mind "That settles it"

"See? I told you she's one of us" Jace says as he pats Alec's shoulder on their way out

Simon drives the van to the city of bones parking it under a bridge, when everyone gets out they are met with not only the dark sky but only some light coming from the moon and trash bins with a man-made fire.

"Yeah, this place isn't creepy. Not at all." Simon says as he looks ahead at the bridge passage away to see the tall grass with various lit trash bins and a silent night

"Don't tell me you're afraid" Isabelle says with a smile as she stands next to Simon

"Are you kidding me? I was born afraid... which sounded a lot better in my head" Simon says immediately regretting the words that he had let out. Brynne couldn't help but smile at Simon's awkwardness in trying to flirt with Isabelle

"Let's check it out," Alec says taking a step forward ready to scope the place out before they bring Clary to the brothers but also for the three siblings to have a moment to speak amongst themselves

Jace takes a step to check the perimeter only for Clary to take it as she should follow. Jace stops Clary by telling her, "Wait here a minute. I wanna see if it's safe"

"Why are we doing this? We don't even know these people" Simon tells Clary who wasn't paying attention to him as she was looking ahead at Jace

"Hey." Alec says stopping Jace, "If something goes wrong... if something happens to her, that's on us. You know that, don't you?"

"Yeah. And you know exactly what'd happen if Valentine gets the Cup before we do. She's lost everything, Alec. I know exactly what that feels like. And what's your problem with her, anyway? Your family always used to welcome strays." Jace says with a slight smile that quickly disappeared

"You were never a stray" Alec says seriously

"The point is, nothing's changed," Jace says as she looks at Izzy "We're in this fight together. There's just... one more of us"

Clary looks over to Simon to answer his question, "I just wish my mom had trusted me enough to tell me about all this. What is it? What's wrong?"

"How are you not ultra freaked out by all of this?" Simon asks Clary as he was, while Brynne is one of his best friends that didn't mean he wasn't afraid of what it meant to be a warlock or her ties to this whole new world

"I guess I just always felt like there was something missing." Clary says making Brynne look down at her shoes remembering Clary having told her in previous confidential conversations about these feelings, "Some void I couldn't quite explain. Things are finally starting to make sense. But none of it's gonna matter unless I get my mom back."

"Then let's do that" Simon says being supportive and wanting to be there for Clary

"Clary. Come on, it's all clear" Jace says having finished his conversation with his siblings

"Let's go," Clary says to Simon with a smile making him smile back. Clary turns to walk towards Jace who extends a hand which Clary takes leaving Simon to disappointedly look at their locked hands. Brynne walks to stand next to Simon and with a shoulder nudge Simon looks over at Brynne who encouragingly smiles

Jace and Clary walk ahead of everyone else allowing Jace to explain to Clary that the Silent Brothers communicate without using words, using just their thoughts. While Clary didn't see any harm in their form of communication, Jace advised her not to be fooled by their silence. He also explained how the Brothers will hold the Soul-Sword to her head and with its blade carve the truth from her mind and only if she is strong enough will she live.

They reach the front of the City of Bones front door where they are all met with a skeleton at the entrance, adding to the terrifying aspect of the whole plan.

"I can do this" Clary tells herself just loud enough that Simon is able to hear her from standing near her

"Yeah, you can. You're Clary freakin' Fray. You can do anything" Simon encourages making Clary look at him trying to believe his words. Simon takes a step only for Jace to step in front of Simon

"All right, hold up," Jace says before Brynne can stop the mundane from taking another step towards the entrance

"Surprise, surprise. No mundanes allowed, just like in the training room, right? Wrong! I've seen every horror movie ever made and the funny best friend who gets left behind... dead man" Simon says making Izzy laugh and Jace cross his arms not finding Simon amusing

"You're not that funny. But by all means, go ahead." Jace says making Simon walk up to the door and two steps before he can reach the handle Jace speaks up again "Of course, the minute you enter, you'll die"

Simon stops having heard the word die and turns around, "Problem is, now I don't trust you"

"Si he's not telling any lies. At least not now, he was before" Brynne says knowing the dangers of the City of Bones and didn't want her best friend walking anywhere near the entrance

"The rune energy in the City of Bones will kill any mundane who dares to enter, so, please..." Alec says moving his hands away from him in a shoo motion leaving the decision up to Simon. Simon believing the words that both came out of Brynne and Alec's mouths walks back towards the group with his head hung low

"The Brothers creep me out. I'll mind the mundane" Isabelle says with a smile

"Your sacrifice is noted, Izzy," Jace says

"Talk about sacrifice. I'm missing a financial analysis class" Simon tells Clary making Brynne roll her eyes at the fact that Simon now was starting to think about class

"I can't be here anymore," Alec says as he waves his hand around Simon's face before turning to Jace, "so, Jace, I'm gonna mind the perimeter"

"And I am going with him. Don't worry Fray, Si will be safe" Brynne says and Clary couldn't help but trust her with Simons safety

Alec looks back having heard extra footsteps only to see that Brynne was still following him making him ask, "Why are you following me?"
