EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT FOR THE FOUR OF THEM AFTER THEY AGREED TO DO IT. They had a lot of fun being up on that stage, singing and playing their songs while listening to their fans as they let their love and passion for music soar free. It was also easy to tell that Nick was definitely the leader of the band but to him, the best part was being in this with his brothers and Elisa, knowing that he can count on them for the good and even the bad times. It didn't feel like anything could change how perfect the moment was, till something happened when Nick and Elisa were thirteen years old. Nick started changing; he was becoming more agitated and every time they were on the road, he'd demand that they stop and get pizza and Diet Coke, saying that he needed it. Elisa, Joe, and Kevin instantly got worried since Nick always got this massive "Big Gulp" and every fifteen minutes, they had to stop at the side of the road where Nick would run into the forest and come back to the minivan.

One day, while they were on tour and stopped at their hotel, Elisa and the boys were in their hotel room. She was in her room when Nick suddenly rushed into the room with Joe and Kevin following, the three of them were clearly scared and it instantly made Elisa worried and scared. When she was filled in on what happened and saw how she could practically see Nick's bones, she knew something was wrong. Joe and Kevin called their parents and told them what was happening, freaking out at the same time while Elisa held a scared Nick in her arms, comforting him.

They took Nick to the doctor who immediately told them to go to the hospital after Nick told him his signs. Elisa had begged her parents with worry in her green eyes to let her go and the minute they arrive, she ran straight into the building and over to where her best friends were, the four of them hugging as they tried not to be scared.

Waiting in the waiting room felt like forever and soon, Nick had to use the bathroom. A few minutes later and Nick still hasn't returned, Elisa went to find him and what she saw broke her heart. She found him on the floor in the hallway of the bathroom with his head in his knees, crying his eyes out. She ran over to him, pulling Nick into a hug and he threw himself into her, crying his heart out.

"I'm here, Nicky," Elisa whispered, hugging the poor kid and rubbing his back.

"I'm terrified, Eli. What if I'm dying?" Nick asked through his sobs.

Hearing that made tears filled her green eyes. She didn't want it to be true, but no one knew how to think. She bit her lip, feeling her bottom lip start to quiver as she heard the door opened, hearing footsteps walk towards them and arms were then wrapped around both of them, giving it away that it was Joe and Kevin. The four of them sat there, hugging each other as they tried to comfort Nick with tears in their eyes.

"Guys?" They all looked up to see Elisa's older brother, Luke wall over with a sad smile on his face, "The doctor is ready for you," he told them — well, Nick.

Nick tensed at that sentence and choked back a sob, Elisa held him closer in her arms. "It'd be okay, Nicky, we won't leave your side," Elisa promised.

The four of them released the hug and Luke helped them stand up onto their feet, Nick's sobs turned into hiccups while tears and worry were clearly seen in Joe's, Kevin's, and Elisa's eyes. They followed Luke back to the waiting room where everyone was with the doctor.

The doctor introduced himself and Elisa felt Nick shake in fear, hiding behind his brothers and Elisa. Nick didn't budge from his spot from where he stood with his brothers and Elisa when he was told to follow the doctor. He looked at Kevin, Joe, and Elisa, his eyes scared and hoping that they'd keep their promise.

"It'd be okay, Nicholas. The faster we get the tests done, the faster I can help you get better." The doctor reassured him.

Nick shook his head and pointed to his brothers and Elisa. "Not without them," he said.

The doctor let them come, knowing that it was the only way to get Nick to follow him. Elisa took Nick's hand, letting him know that she was keeping her promise, and she glanced at her parents to see if they were okay with this. Rosalina and Ricky nodded and the four of them went with Nick, following the doctor.

Nick did his best to keep himself tough while the doctor and the nurses ran the tests. Elisa, Joe, and Kevin stood by Nick's side the whole time and Elisa kept holding Nick's hand for comfort as she softly squeezed it assuringly.

When the tests were done, the doctor glanced at the four of them who were all hugging each other and knew he had to tell them the news. So, the doctor gently told them that Nick had a disease known as Types 1 Diabetes but being kids with music careers, they weren't that educated and had no idea what it was. So, Nick could only ask the question that's been on his mind since he first entered the hospital.

The question that scared all of them badly.

"Am I going to die?"

At the question, Elisa, Kevin, and Joe felt their hearts stopped as tears blurred their vision. They hated the idea of Nick dying and they were so, so scared. None of them knew what Types 1 Diabetes was and to them not knowing what it was or what it does, it really scared them. The doctor assured him that he wouldn't die and he would be able to manage it. While Nick was going to a hospital room, Kevin, Joe, and Elisa had to go back to wait in the waiting room and before they did, the four of them shared a quick hug before they went down the other sides of the hallway.

When they got back to the waiting room, the three of them didn't say anything, letting their bodies shake from fear with tears in their eyes. They were trying so hard to be strong for Nick, but the fear of losing him was really scary for them. They didn't say anything, not knowing how to explain what the doctor had told them to their parents, Emma, Luke, and especially not to Frankie. The youngest Jonas was only five years old and had no idea what was going on.

Kevin felt tears filled his eyes as he struggled to keep them in, feeling like he failed to protect Nick. Out of the Four Musketeers, he was the oldest one and he promised himself to protect his brothers and best friend. Yet here they were in the hospital, having no idea what disease was that Nick supposedly had. He felt like a failure in protecting them and he was really scared of possible losing one of his little brothers.

But when they were able to see Nick again, the three of them felt their world stopped once they saw him hooked up to all the wires — Joe even passed out after seeing his little brother like that. Elisa and Kevin felt like crying nonstop while little Frankie didn't understand what Types 1 Diabetes was, nobody did. Eventually, Kevin, Joe, and Elisa broke down crying from the fear of losing him inside the hospital room, having no clue what Types 1 Diabetes was. After hearing the news and once Nick was free to leave the hospital, they all decided not to tell the label since it was a chance that the boys could get drop — which was the lowest anyone could do, but they didn't want to risk it. They were planning to cancel the show but Nick refused, saying that the four of them were going to rock the show — which they did.

But even after the show and knowing that he had Types 1 Diabetes, Nick was... different. He was always known as sweet, fun-loving, and always singing at the top of his lungs but after finding the news out, he seemed different. Kevin, Joe, and Elisa knew that it was up to them to help bring their Nicky back and they were never going to stop helping him, but for the first few week of finding out what he had, Elisa couldn't help but went to bed, crying from the fear of losing him.

Despite their fear of losing him, neither one of them left his side and always helped out with his Diabetes. For the first few weeks, Nick didn't want them to worry about him and told them that he had it under control, but secretly, he knew that he needed their help; he just didn't want them to worry so much about him. Especially when he struggles to manage his blood sugar levels, like today.

The four of them were getting ready to head on stage and before they did, Nick was checking his levels. At least he was trying too, but being stubborn, he didn't ask for help. It was a few weeks after they found out that Nick had diabetes and they were all still shaken up from it. It was quiet within their hotel room and Nick still hasn't left the bathroom from checking his levels, so they went to check on him.

What they found was enough to break their hearts. Nick with both of his hands on the sink, staring down at the ground with his medical kit for his diabetes on the counter of the sink. It was clear for them to tell that he was struggling to check his levels tonight.

"Nick, if you needed help, why didn't you call us? We would've came to help you," Joe said.

"I thought I could handle it. I didn't want you guys to worry about me," Nick said honestly.

"Nick, we're always gonna worry about you," Kevin said.

"And we wanna help you, Nicky," Elisa added.

Nick nodded and spoke softly. "I know you guys do. I just thought I could handle it. It's my problem, I didn't want you guys to worry about it,"

"You're not alone in this, Nicky. You got us," Joe said.

Nick nodded and this time, he let them help, knowing that he couldn't get through this without them. Instead of doing this all on his own, he finally let his brothers and Elisa help him go through this and with their help, it did help him out a lot. And he was forever glad to have them by his side.
